My eyes flutter open to my alarm clock, which is sounding off the noise that tells me it is time to get ready. I jump out of bed, forgetting the ridiculously early time. I throw on my uniform, toss my hair up into a ponytail, and hurry down the stairs to get my water bottle ready. My stomach is in knots and my heart is racing. I force myself to take a few bites of an apple, but thats all I can stomach at the moment. My dad ready to go every Saturday, no matter the time. He has been at every soccer game since I was five years old. When we arrive at the field I run over to my coach, eager to start the game. The air is crisp and cool as it blows across my face. The grass glistens with early morning dew. As I run arose the field, I think there
In a flash, the referee blows his whistle, and the game is over. Legs striding, I chase after the ball, stealing it from the other team. Amidst the excitement, I lose track of time, and minutes go by in seconds. I started playing soccer when I was 7 years old. For as long as I can remember I have loved to play soccer. When I play soccer I forget about all my worries. Since then I have played for many different recreational teams for Verdigris and Catoosa. I have also played for a competitive soccer team for West Side Alliance. Today, I play for Verdigris High School soccer. I have played for their junior varsity team for two years as the captain and the junior varsity player of the year. I have also played for the varsity team.
Soccer consists of many important text and lexis, the first being the rulebook for soccer. It consists of how to play soccer, what you can and cannot do during a game, and the setup for the team: 11 players on the field, 2 teams, 3-4 referees, and as many backup players on the bench. The importance of this text is how the lexis is incorporated into literacy. The goal of the rulebook is to guide a new player on how to play the game, but most importantly it will build how they interpret the game and how those interpretation of the rules spread into their life. Players learn how to be more perceptive of what is happening around them and this helps to stimulate their brains. But how do players perceive what going on on the field? They read a playbook. Playbooks contain names and descriptions of many common and intricate soccer plays. This may consist of: bicycle kicks- a player throwing both feet in the air as a ball is approaching on the fly, while moving the legs with a pedaling motion to kick the ball in the opposite direction to which the player is facing, with the player usually ending up sprawled on the ground, chip- kicking the ball right over the goalies head, or volley- strike or kick (the ball) before it touches the ground. These types of plays help players connect their minds with the ball, building their knowledge and eventually, literacy. The last important text is motivating speeches. These are so important because they help
The whistle screeched and all of the anxiety that was haunting me, suddenly slipped away. Everything we had been working towards came into play now. My first soccer game was a mix of emotions, I was excited, nervous, hyper, and smiley. It all started on the car ride to the game, it was only a 10 minute ride but it felt more like 10 hours. My parent’s intentions were to be supportive, but I found it annoying. They were telling me to be aggressive and don’t back down but at the same time, have fun. Now I have a greater appreciation for my parents and know they just want the best for me. After what seemed like days, we arrived at Swarner Park, it was a little chilly because the sun was behind the full, fluffy clouds.
All I saw was pitch black. As soon as I opened my eyes I felt like I was staring straight into the sun. I jumped out of bed at the sound of my alarm clock blaring noise into my ear. I then glanced at my clock which read 8:13 am. I walked to the kitchen to grab a muffin, but I then heard my dad yell, ”Are you ready for the finals?”.
UAB Women’s Soccer traveled to El Paso, TX to face off against the University of Texas at El Paso Lady Miners.
Time to make the trek to another soccer game that is three hours away. Heading down the highway, I dose off and enter the world that is ever changing. I awaken to the sounds of screeching brakes and a current of wind that passes across my face. We have arrived at the field. Fast-forward, it's getting closer to game time and little do I know I'm about to play every position in the next ninety minutes.
Soccer is a popular sport that is played all around the world. People from South America and other parts of the globe call this sport football. This game requires sports equipment, rules that need to be acknowledged, and each player obtains an assigned position. I was a part of Maine East freshman soccer team for a year. Not only is the sport exciting to play, but it is also interesting to watch the World Cup.
Ever since I could remember, soccer had been in my life. If there was a soccer team that needed a coach, my father was always the first to volunteer. There were almost too many strenuous weekends spent hours away from home for soccer tournaments to count. My entire family, consisting of my parents, my siblings, my dog, and myself, packed in a mini-van heading to a city that I had never heard of for soccer games. But when I entered high school, all that would soon go away. I kept playing the same sport that I always had, although now I had to wake up at five in the morning for six hours of high school soccer practice in the smoldering summer heat in order to make the high school team. High School sports were more competitive than anything I had done before. I put in as much effort as I could to make the Varsity High School team, staying out past dinner to practice even longer. I was utterly divulged in soccer and trying to be the best I could be. Soon, I would regret placing a game over spending time with my family.
Soccer is a popular sport played all over the world. Even though it has only been popular in the United States for the past 30 years, soccer has been a long time favorite most everywhere else. The sport dates back to the Egyptians, who played games involving the kicking of a ball. Now, the sport has grown to a global pastime, including men’s and women’s teams, and the World Cup (which is played every four years).
One lovely afternoon I was at my indoor soccer game. I was in an indoor league with some of my friends and we were tearing every team we played. That day we were going to play against an academy team, which have very good players.I had arrived about two minutes before the game. I was pretty late because I had gone to go eat before with my brother. So because of that I didn’t start and I wasn’t warmed up either. Nathan, my coach was like “Hey man did you go sew your clothes?,” in a jokingly was because I was late. The game had begun now and it was already intense. It was back to back If I do say so. The first half was an exciting one as it was all tied up two to two. I had played about half of the half. Now came the second half, and later on I went on the pitch. Some kid and I jumped up into the air to win the ball. We both did, and when I fell down, I guess I landed on my hand the wrong way. I felt a sudden pain on my hand. My wrist was all jacked up. It was horrendous as I looked down at my hair in shock as It looked like the top of mountains.I couldn’t feel my hand, It hurt quite a lot when i attempted to move it. My teammates, the opponents, my coach, the referee, and my brother all gathered around me to see what had happened. I wasn’t crying or anything but I sure wanted to. Actually I really did haha. My brother questioned “ oh dang man, you good?,” and well I just looked at him in pain, I didn’t know what to say. When the ambulance arrived at the
It is eight in the morning and today is the final soccer game of the season. The season coming to an end is a bittersweet feeling. The game starts at nine, but coach wanted us there early to warm up before the game. We are taking a bus to the field. Everyone is in the zone, so the bus is completely silent. On our way to the game I am listening to music trying to get my mind in the right place. We were going to go against the best team in the state. To some people it is just a game, but to my team and I this is the modern day World War 2.
Soccer. fast moving, strategy, competitive, I loved those aspects in the game. In the month of March, when all the soccer tryouts began, I decided to try out for an older team which was 2 years older-my brother's team- just for fun. I went out on the day of the trial and surprisingly, I made the team. Feeling as if I had won the million dollar lottery, filled with excitement, on the side with fear because there were boys who were enormous and strong on my team. The only reason they were bigger, because I was 2 years younger.
People have always loved to play games. The human race has created hundreds of thousands of games to entertain themselves and to compete with one another. The most beloved games are those of physical sports. One of these sports, that has become a worldwide phenomenon, is the game soccer. The entire world gathers every four years to send out their best team, and to see which country is the ultimate champion. To play the game of soccer, there needs to be referees to ensure that the players are safe and are following the rules. Though this was once a highly respected position, in Virginia, working as a referee is no longer worth the time, due to a lack of respect, no support system, and the constant variations and changes to the rules.
Most people believe soccer is nothing but just a game , but for me, it's more than a game it's a passion. Soccer involves hard work , dedication , and long hours out in the field. It takes hard work to be out in the field playing with a ball aggressively and with skills. Soccer is a sport where there is no giving up , in order to be successful, you need to practice intensely to get stronger and better every day. There's times where you want to give up, but you just can't you need to find some type of motivation to keep you going. My coach is the person who has made an impact in my life . By that it changed me in many different ways. He has been able to motivate me , support me , and not letting me fail.
A morning such as this is not uncommon. From the age of four, soccer has always been such an important part of my life. That is, until one day I collided with my sister and subsequently limped off the field. I was kept from playing soccer for a year and two school seasons due to my knee injuries. I was kept permanently glued to the bench with a pen and stat book in hand. However, I continued to show up when I could because being a part of the team was still extremely important to me. So, even though I can’t play, I still wanted to be involved in soccer and the team atmosphere.
