If you were to ask someone what they think is the most important emotion, what would they say? After asking family members and friends I soon realized almost everyone agreed on happiness over any other emotion. Some people said it was what gave them the drive to get up in the morning while others spoke of it as some sort of ultimate goal in life. I can believe this because many people see happiness as a one-off thing that they can go out and buy for themselves and some people seek it to give their life purpose by forever seeking true happiness. Whether it be something that the beliefs within their religion point towards or not everyone wants to be happy. To start I can say that neither of these things can really describe the way I see happiness in my life. The way I see it, if everyone around me whom I care for is happy, I can be happy. Whether it involves me putting on a sort of façade to keep them that way or not I try my …show more content…
Rita goes into great length on this subject in her publication Smiling Depression: Nothing to Smile About where she defines this form of depression as being someone who smiles and appears happy on the outside while on the inside they are actually suffering from depressive symptoms. Another thing she talks about in this article is how many people who suffer from smiling depression do not even see it as a form of depression because of how they undermine their own feelings in order to appear differently to others. One of the scariest things about smiling depression is how those with it may be at a higher risk of having suicidal thoughts, as said in her article in Psychology Today “..those suffering from smiling depression have the energetic ability to plan and follow through.” Thankfully there are many ways to treat this including psychotherapy and simply speaking to those around you about how you
In order to be truly happy we must find the perfect balance of accepting our emotions and learning to cope with them. Like Joy, we often become obsessed with the thought of being happy and forget that its not possible to be happy without the aid of all other emotions and like Sadness, we think of ourselves as pathetic and worthless if we feel down, which is not the case at all. We try to hide our true emotions, in fear of looking weak in front of others. The only way for true happiness is to find a balance with all emotions and be in tune with
Happiness can be two things; fulfilling or misleading. One of the best things in the world
Happiness. It is not tangible, measurable or even understandable. Yet, above all other things, it is what people seek the most. Individuals draw happiness from a number of different sources, presumably causing the confusion as to why happiness can not be traced back to a specific object. Still, how can you possibly meet the expectations of being happy? This article will attempt to demystify the subject of happiness.
Happiness is what all human beings/rational beings desire. It is always the end (goal) of our activities, it is an unconditional good.
When first asked, I believed that happiness was simply fulfilling a desire, but through topics discussed in class, I now realize that there is so much more to happiness. The road to happiness includes using virtues to receive gifts from God and from others. From the Beatitudes, we can learn to use what Jesus has taught us, to gain happiness in our everyday lives. We are taught that when we believe in God, mourn, be gentle, seek righteousness, show mercy,
No I feel like joy is not the most prevalent emotion. “We feel happy or sad depending on how events influence the likelihood of our getting the things we want in life.” (pg.347) Even though we may feel joy a lot I believe that there are certain days where one emotion is dominant over the other and no one day is the same as the next. The events in your life that are going on through the day can make your emotions bounce all over. 2.
Happiness can come in a wide variety of things. Different things make different people happy. Seeing a cute dog can make me happy for a moment. Do we long to be happy one day at a time or are we longing to know we will never be sad? Assume every person on the planet has had their happy moments, there is always a deterrent. Always the next moment that can be taken in any direction and if you have experienced emotions then it is known. People may long to be happy but. I think no one can ever be one hundred percent happy for their whole life, but I think people can be content. There will always be moments that are not happy moments but there will always be another moment that can bring joy. I believe you can be happy with your life, even with those moments of other emotion. One of the main things that I want in life is happiness. What can make me happy are many different things. I long for happiness, and in that longing many things that have the
Lazy fall days, colorful leaves, cooler weather, birds singing, frogs croaking, crickets chirping, relaxing to the sounds of the outdoors. Waves of water crashing upon each other, fishing, telling stories around a campfire, making s’mores, memories with family and friends; this is what happiness is to me. Happiness is in the eye of the beholder, what brings happiness to one person may not bring happiness to another person. When I think of the word happiness, I think of descriptive words like Contentment, enjoyment, satisfaction, delightfulness, something that makes a person smile. I have always looked at the word happiness as a feeling, an action, never have I thought of happiness as an overall affect. However, it is a proven fact, that happiness can affect the over-all health and longevity of human life. Happy people live longer than those that are lonely, stressed, or depressed.
No matter how many points we put across stating the positives of depression, it does not give as many positives as one could have gotten by simply remaining happy.
Happiness is a key to everybodys life. Even the most depressed man on earth has a little happiness deep down inside. Its what keeps us striving to fulfil our needs and wants on an everyday basis. There is not one kid who does not get excited over a dollar to spend at the candy shop. What about the feeling of getting a promotion at your job, or even finding the cure for cancer. Being happy is not just healthy, but it is also rewarding for each and every individual. We strive to find anything that will turn a bad day to a good one. Individuals will compromise to attain their happiness. You can not get what you want without giving something first.
As human beings, we all have the capability of experiencing emotions and feelings. People can experience happiness,
Happiness is a result that we deserved, furthermore, it becomes a motivation for us to keep trying and getting success in life.
When someone asks Google “how many people are there in the world?”a straight answer of 7.125 billion appears on the screen. However when asked “how many happy people in the world?” Google wasn't quiet sure of the answer. Is that because happiness as a human emotion cannot fully be defined? In Elizabeth Landau’s article states why happiness is so important in our daily life. Although we don't always have complete control over our emotions our surroundings, the environment and people we involve ourselves with has a lot to due with humans “happiness’”in general she explains. The human brain is the most powerful part of our whole body and if one can learn how to control your mind you can be happy, but defining
One of the scariest emotional experiences a person can ever suffer during their lifetime is to experience a form of depression. Over one in five Americans can expect to get some form of depression in their lifetime. Over one in twenty Americans have a depressive disorder every year. Depression is one of the most common and most serious mental health problems facing people today. However, depression is often not taken seriously because of the large use of antidepressant drugs and the large number of sufferers. Depression is a serious illness and should be taken as so. Contrary to the popular misconceptions about depression today, it is a serious and deadly disorder.1
Without happiness, people might not be living their lives the way they yearn to. This is a prominent part of the
