Happiness. Most people yearn to be happy. If people are not happy, what good is life? Without happiness, people are not living their lives the way they want to. Happiness is a way for people to discover their true identity. Working at something that does not make a person happy is pointless because they will have no enjoyment doing what they are doing, and no motive to continue. Face it, people need happiness to do everything. Happiness is a key part of most people's lives because without its presence people will never be satisfied with their lives, realize who they are as an individual, or accomplish anything substantial. Without happiness, people might not be living their lives the way they yearn to. This is a prominent part of the …show more content…
What is my freedom, if all creatures, even the botched and the impotent, are my masters? What is my life, if I am but to bow, to agree and to obey.” (Rand 97)
This quote shows that before Prometheus discovered the word ‘I’, or his true identity, he was not happy. Coming to a realization, he sees that now that he is his own individual and he does not have to conform to his collectivist society, he can be free and happy. He is happy now that he can own his own accomplishments and not have to share them with others, conforming to his previous society that he has now detached himself from. Equality 7-2521 now figures out who Prometheus truly is. People who work at something that does not make them happy are less likely to make a substantial accomplishment because they are not motivated to make an effort towards their goal. “But the only things which taught us joy were the power we created in our wires, and the Golden One. And both these joys belong to us alone, they come from us alone, they bear no relation to our brothers, and they do not concern our brothers in any way. Thus do we wonder” (Rand 31). In this quote the reader can infer that the lightbulb Prometheus has made is a great source of happiness for him. The lightbulb is one of the only things that taught him joy. Since he was happy when creating the lightbulb, he accomplished a lot and ended up creating a new invention. If he would have not enjoyed making the
Equality contemplates, “I wonder, for it is hard for me to conceive how men who knew the word “I”, could give it up and not know what they lost” (103). This quote narrates the discovery of one of the most essential words used to identify as a single, original person, I. Equality realizes the tragedy of the loss that his previous society created before his lifetime and really ponders why and how this could happen in a very separate world. Equality readies himself to be an individual person as a result of feeling strongly against the beliefs of his previous society. Equality excitedly states, “We made a fire, we cooked the bird, and we ate it, and no meal had ever tasted better to us. And we thought suddenly that there was a great satisfaction to be found in the food which we need and obtain by our own hand” (79). In the past, Equality had never done anything to express his originality because of the law stating otherwise, so when given the opportunity to finally understand his own strengths and weaknesses, he takes it. He disregards the law and excitedly grasps the concept that he isn’t supposed to be a follower like his peers were, he was meant to be a leader. Disagreeing with the law was a main point of Rand’s novella, promoting personal
Prometheus is an egoist because he believes that “to be free, a man must be free of his brothers”(101). This indicates that Prometheus understands that each person is different and should have his or her own thoughts, values, and preferences. An egoist merely believes that “I owe nothing to my brothers, nor do I gather debts from them. I ask none to live for me, nor do I live for any others”(96). Prometheus demonstrates his beliefs when he runs away to the forest. Rather than trying to change the collectivist society he grew up in, he runs away, bringing Gaea along with him because she is the one he loves. This might sound selfish to one who lives in the modern world, but the reason Prometheus doesn’t try to save the society is that he believes everyone has the right to make their own choices. In other words, if the other citizens of the collectivist society want to leave and be individuals, they can and should make that decision for
happiness is necessary for stability. As an individual, there comes an ability to recognize and value what beauty truly is, such as the waves crashing upon a
Our 2nd goal in composition 1 dealt with critical reading strategies. One way I did this was the reading logs we kept for our books we read. For the book “Anthem”, I wrote down quotes and was then able to use or reference them for my paper “Broken Chains”. Another way I did this was making outlines for my papers. For the argumentative essay, I made an outline which gave me the ability to stay organized with my thoughts while I was typing. The third way I did was writing down main points about what I read or watched. When we did the Career Research Paper I wrote a couple paragraphs down about each source to use in my paper to insure that I was using accurate and relevant information.
In the end, despite the fact that the human creator was now suffering everlastingly, and humanity was essentially cursed forever, Prometheus was confident that his beautiful creatures would survive and live on, and well, so they
Happiness is one of the most satisfying things a person can have if they want to be sane or even remotely content with life. The definition of happiness is “the state of being happy”, or “pleasure, satisfaction, contentment, etc.” (Google, 2015) All of these feelings are very rewarding for a person to live with on a daily basis, without it I don’t think many people would make it too far in life. You hear stories on the news of someone who tries to commit suicide or of a person who took someone else’s life and wonder what went wrong or where did life go wrong for them.
“Happiness is something complete and self-sufficient, not just one of the many ends, but the end of all pursuit in action. ”(Aristotle,1097b20) It gives human beings the driving force to get to their place and continue working for it, even after a problem arises. Every single human being is striving for excellence and certain virtues are correlated with
Happiness is the central purpose of human life and a goal in itself. All action is goal oriented and the goal of every action, is to reach happiness. According to Aristotle, happiness is “living well
People tend to feel the most happiness in their daily lives rather than happiness over all. For instance, if someone opens the door for you, does something outrageous, tells a funny story or simply reacts kindly to you, you can experience happiness. Laughing at someones joke can cause you to feel happy even for just a moment. Another definition of happiness in our daily lives is self appreciation such as, getting that new raise, getting an A on a test or even getting into the college you want. These examples all cause happiness in different but still rather large ways. We seem to think that happiness is so difficult to come by, we focus so hard on what happiness is that we don't even realize the simple things in life that are truly making a difference. We can become significantly happy without even noticing. Although happiness seems like it’s hard to find it’s not all that difficult. What’s hard to come by is the feeling of genuine happiness ; genuine happiness is what people truly look for.
Essentially, seeking happiness is necessary in life. We often hope to find happiness from other people, other things around us and forget that we can create it by ourselves. The novel “The happiness project” by Gretchen Rubin is sufficient evidence. The author states, “I am happy – but I’m not as happy as I should be.”(13) Then she started a project within a year to change her life and seek for a happier life. By making a list of things she has to do in the next twelve months, the author have done many things which affects her “Vitality” (1), her “Marriage” (38), her “Leisure” (112), her “Friendship” (141),etc. positively so that she can achieve her goal, which is a life full filed of happiness as she dreamed before. We can also do that. We know that if everyone of us set a goal and live purposely, we are all happy. However, we can be happier if we know how to change ourselves on the right way. We can make ourselves happy by doing simple things in our everyday life.
After just one day, I was working under Prometheus –something I did not intend to do–, following his rules and doing what he does. I realised that this is not the life that I want to live. I want to work for me, not under someone else. So in the night I take my glass box, and the Golden One, and set out, back into the green forest to find a home of my own.
Understanding how the mind works has always been a major goal throughout philosophy, and an important piece of this deals with how humans come to experience the world. Many philosophers have attempted to investigate this issue, and proposed a framework by which human understanding could be understood. Happiness is one of those issues that philosophers have tried to attempt to investigate its understanding and how it is important for every human being to have happiness. Generally speaking we see that people would go through any lengths possible by which to acquire many varied materials and issues use to induce pleasures in each person, and intrinsically, this emotion happiness remains the ultimate goal. True happiness is defined by, having a sense of deep inner well-being, how you fell about a certain situation and experiencing true happiness is a great thing. The reason why true happiness is important in the world of today is because, without true happiness the world would, come unraveled and more crimes and the government might go into a crazy binge where there is no control over what is said, or down on any issue that is put in front of the government like, immigration reform, to make changes to a country’s policy on immigration and the people who can come in and become a citizen of that country. Without feeling true happiness criminals and criminal activities will start to happen an example of this would be, more abuse in homes between spouses or more child abuse because, the family members are letting more of their angry out and not figuring out a way to combat it or deal with in in another helpful way.
The happiness is often related to the coverage of needs. As people born and grown, they only have small needs for their survival at the beginning. When their basic survival needs completed, they will face a test to the next level of needs, failure on the test leads them lost in the basic survival needs accomplishment. In the other hand, a success in the test brings them awareness towards themselves and around. This circumstance brings happiness not
Happiness can lead to a valuable life. In spite of this, your own happiness will be forgotten eventually or maybe not even remembered at all. Humans busy themselves
