There are three main sleeping disorders that affect people all across the world. A sleeping disorder is a problems with sleeping, such as having trouble falling asleep, staying asleep or performing strange activities during your sleep. The three different sleeping disorders I am going to be talking about are insomnia, night terrors, and narcolepsy. Each of these are unique in their own way and affect a person differently.
The most common sleeping disorder that affects an estimated 30%-50% of the general public is insomnia. Insomnia is persistent troubles or problems falling and staying asleep, this disorder can be treated but treatment is necessary. A night terror is when someone experiences great fear and screams loudly while they are still asleep, it is described as a terrible nightmare that will not be remembered by the person. This sleep disorder only affects a very small percentage of the general public, it is more common in young children, but also can affect adults. Treatment for night terrors is similar to the treatment of insomnia, but therapy is mainly the best fix for this. Night terrors are usually caused by stress, but many other things can cause someone to experience this sleeping disorder.
The last type of sleeping disorder is narcolepsy, this is defined as an abnormal amount of daytime sleepiness. Narcolepsy is a very strange thing, at one moment a person can be fully awake, then the next they can be sleeping anywhere. It is an uncontrollable urge to just fall asleep. This disease is incurable, but treatment can help with the frequency of the attacks, the helpful treatments include therapy, medications, and seeing a specialist. The cause of narcolepsy is not well understood, but many believe it is due to the genetic factors or from abnormal signaling in the

As far as the sleeping disorders are concerned, they involve the difficulties that are associated to sleeping. When a person repeatedly stops breathing during his sleep it is called sleep apnea. This sleeping disorder usually tends to occur in older more heavy weight men. Another sleeping disorder is narcolepsy, which sends an individual in an instant phase of deep REM sleep regardless of where they are and whom they are with.

Then you have narcolepsy which is a disorder that messes with someone sleep cycle. Parasomnia is a disorder this involves abnormal behaviors in the persons sleep. Hypersomnia is a condition where the person has a hard time staying awake during the daytime. Dyssomnia is a condition which can be anything that disrupts the sleep process. There is also sleepwalking which allows the person walk in their sleep and sometimes they have more control to where they can talk and touch things with their hands.

Children are commonly affected by Sleep Apnea, teeth grinding, Night Terrors, Nightmares, sleep walking, Restless Leg Syndrome, bedwetting, and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Adults tend to be affected by Insomnia, Hypersomnia, Sleep Apnea, Narcolepsy, Sleep Paralysis, Hypopnea Syndrome, and Noctoria. Sleep disorders have always surrounded me through family and friends. though I never suffered with any sort of sleeping disorder, I was well aware of how unnerving it can be toothless who suffer from it. I did not know all of the different types there were, and was intrigued when reading chapter three of my psychology book. I had assumed that nigh terrors, which I used to think were the same as nightmares, were over exaggerations of a person’s scary dream. Sleepwalking also held interesting facts that I didn’t know prior. Having a best friend who occasionally sleepwalks, I was always interested in why she would seldom remember both walking and talking. I also appreciated learning about sleep apnea because my father used to struggle with it and would worry my mom about his breathing when he was asleep.
Sleep disorder is a result of sleep deprivation that interferes with a person's social activities, work and even driving. Most of the sleep disorders are managed after proper diagnosis.
