There are three main sleeping disorders that affect people all across the world. A sleeping disorder is a problems with sleeping, such as having trouble falling asleep, staying asleep or performing strange activities during your sleep. The three different sleeping disorders I am going to be talking about are insomnia, night terrors, and narcolepsy. Each of these are unique in their own way and affect a person differently.

The most common sleeping disorder that affects an estimated 30%-50% of the general public is insomnia. Insomnia is persistent troubles or problems falling and staying asleep, this disorder can be treated but treatment is necessary. A night terror is when someone experiences great fear and screams loudly while they are still asleep, it is described as a terrible nightmare that will not be remembered by the person. This sleep disorder only affects a very small percentage of the general public, it is more common in young children, but also can affect adults. Treatment for night terrors is similar to the treatment of insomnia, but therapy is mainly the best fix for this. Night terrors are usually caused by stress, but many other things can cause someone to experience this sleeping disorder.

The last type of sleeping disorder is narcolepsy, this is defined as an abnormal amount of daytime sleepiness. Narcolepsy is a very strange thing, at one moment a person can be fully awake, then the next they can be sleeping anywhere. It is an uncontrollable urge to just fall asleep. This disease is incurable, but treatment can help with the frequency of the attacks, the helpful treatments include therapy, medications, and seeing a specialist.
