Within a few months of reporting onboard, he completed seven qualifications well ahead of schedule including earning his Enlisted Information Dominance Warfare Specialist qualification. For more than three decades, Army Non-Commissioned Officers (NCO) were part of an era of fast promotions through the NCO ranks, with some Military Occupation Specialty (MOS) seeing Soldiers make the rank of Sergeant First Class (SFC) with six to seven years time in service (TIS). Since the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001, the United States military was facing a challenge that produced two separate operations simultaneously in the same region of the world which called for thousands of additional service members, especially in the ranks of NCOs. While “fast tracking” was great for the individual, it left many enlisted Soldiers, as well as Officers angry and frustrated with the lack of knowledge these young NCOs were demonstrating when it came to basic Soldiering tactics and techniques. This stems from the decades old Sergeant and Staff Sergeant promotion boards, lack of leadership time, as well as lack of diversity within major Army Component Commands (COCOMS).

My grandfather has always had a huge influence on my life growing up and still does to this day. He has always worked hard to provide for his family as a welder and has never had any regrets with his career choice. He joined the Navy and served many years as a welder, and later retired from a military facility after welding for 30 years. This award would help me achieve my goals by helping with tuition and welding supplies, as I start my college career in June of 2016 at Tulsa Welding College in Jacksonville Florida. I am dedicated to finishing college to pursue my career as a welder and eventually a welding instructor.I would like to travel pursuing a career as a welder, possibly even working overseas. I have taken welding for the past three
Welding is a great career choice for a person not wanting to go to college. There are all different types of welding careers to explore, and a person can choose the one he would most enjoy. The wages of a welder are better than most technical jobs. When you go to welding school you can start working a lot faster than any other career. Trained welders seldom have trouble finding gainful employment.
The previous promotion system that the Army had in place was designed to support an Army at war. Prior to the height of the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Army mandated that soldiers attend the appropriate level of Non-commissioned Officer Professional Development (NCOPD) course before the soldier could pin on the next rank. As the Army goes through demobilization, the Army is seeing more of a garrison style of leadership come full circle, realizing that NCO development supports combat readiness long-term. The Chief of Staff of the United States Army, General Mark Milley said “Readiness is the Army’s number one priority” (www.armytimes.com) The Army’s combat readiness depends on leaders at all levels to embrace the importance of developing NCOs at a higher level. With changing and improving weapons system and equipment, soldiers of 2020 will need to be at a higher level of readiness than ever before. It must commit to placing emphasis and value on the training, education, and experiences individuals obtain in the operational, institutional, and self-development learning domains. The U.S. Army has made leaps and bounds from where it first began and leading up to the twentieth century. “In the mid 1900’s many leaders in the Army still felt that development was done through the means of on-the-job training, and that that is where it should stay.” (www.ncohistory.com) This was about as far from the today’s system of STEP as you could possibly be.
The career I plan on pursuing is a welder. I choose welding because I think it’s a fun job to do and the hours and the pay are good. Facts about welders are we work long days and get paid a lot of money for the jobs we do. You don’t need a college degree to be a welder.
The client is a 50-year-old, Latino who identifies as a gay male. Throughout this paper, I will refer to him as Jorge. He has been HIV-positive for 15 years and reports to have experienced problems with addiction to various substances since his mid-twenties. Within the past ten years, he has experienced cumulatively harsher consequences as a result of his drinking and drug use. He has been arrested 16 times, has been involved in 3 car wrecks, has received 3 DUIs, and at one point, served 6 months in jail. He reports that last Thanksgiving weekend he overdosed on heroin while thinking he was consuming crystal meth. Having survived that overdose has prompted him to seek recovery
In reviewing this learners track 1 residency action plan, goals for skill development that were discussed at the end of track 1 included practicing and using observation, open-ended questions, and silence. My topic of career is how and why you would want to become a welder. I feel that as a decent welder myself welding is a fun and easy thing to do as long as you have patience for it. Welders get good pay because it is dangerous to weld all the time. Depending on what you do as a welder you can do the world's most dangerous job or the safest. I believe that on the job training would be a successful way to become a welder.

As the high school chapter of my life comes to an end, I have my eyes set on furthering my education at West Virginia University. I have recently been accepted into West Virginia University and am continuing to explore the opportunities it offers its students. I have primarily chosen West Virginia University as my new home for advancing my knowledge and pursuing a career for several reasons.
For my mastery project, I elected to improve my sewing skills or, more accurately, my lack thereof. I chose sewing -both embroidery and machine stitching- as the subject of my project for various reasons. One reason is that I enjoy giving my close friends handmade gifts on special occasions, and I felt that sewing would greatly improve the quality of these gifts. Another reason, though less influential in my decision, is that I would eventually like to be able to make myself clothing. I have, in the past, used my basic sewing skills to fashion halloween costumes and the like, but I have not done so in a technically proficient manner. Stitching costumes is one thing, but creating wearable, day-to-day clothes requires a far higher skill level, which was my goal as an end result. Though I began this project
