In the book Sir Gawain And the Green Knight, Sir Gawain faces three major tests. The first major test Sir Gawain must face is when the Green Knight comes to King Arthur’s Round Table and offers the challenge. The second major test was when Lord Bertilak’s wide tried to seduce Gawain. The final vital test was Gawain keeping his word by going to the Green Chapel for the challenge. In conclusion, Gawain is a loyal knight and lives by the chivalry code for the most part. The first major test Sir Gawain as faced with was at the beginning of the story, when the Green Knight first came and offered the challenge. It all begin while King Arthur and his knights were celebrating for Christmas. While they’re celebrating the Green Knight rides up on his steed. King Arthur welcomes him and ask him to join them while they’re celebrating. The Green Knight declines his offer and goes on to say that he is in search of a challenge. All the king’s knights hear the challenge but no one speaks up to accept it. The Green Knight goes on and calls them all cowards and that this can’t be the place he has heard of. Gawain has left King Arthur’s castle in search of the Green Knight. On the way he finds, Lord Bertilak’s castle where he is greeted and welcomed to stay if he desires. The Lord of the castle and Gawain agree upon a deal to exchange treasures that they have found throughout the day. Gawain stays in the castle to find his treasure while Sir Gawain goes out and hunts for his. While the Lord is the Lady of the castle tries to seduce Gawain. Gawain does not give in to it and accepts her kisses only. The next day she tries to give him an expensive ring but he does not take it. She offers him a sash that keeps all things from harming him. He accepts but keeps it from Lord Bertilak’s at the end of the day but gives him the kisses by doing this he failed this
