“I have a dream” and “The constitution is the guide which I never will abandon.” These quotes are very famous and spoken by two powerful men that has made a big impact on the world. Martin Luther King Jr. was known best for his powerful speech and also known for being a leader. “He was an influential leader of the modern American Civil Rights Movement, an advocate of nonviolence and a Nobel Peace Prize winner.” George Washington was also a great leader and started many new things in his life. “Best known as “Father of our Country” and was unanimously elected the first President of the United States.” Martin Luther King Jr. and George Washington are very well known and still leaving their impact to us.
Martin Luther King Jr. and George Washington were born in two very different ages of time. Martin was fighting against slavery and for everyone to be equal, whereas George Washington grew up with slaves working for his family. Martin Luther King Jr strived for equal treatment of all races he fought for everyone to be equal. “He was arrested 30 times for demonstrating and participating in nonviolent protests against segregation.” George Washington had a total of 318 slaves and 123 were owned by George Washington himself. In the early 1960's African American people had barely any rights at all. For the African Americans to get the rights they designated people known as activists to represent them to the nation and to the government. Two of the greatest activists were Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcom X. They both wanted the same thing, love and equality for all, but they had two extremely separate ways of reaching this goal.

A comparison of the two leaders can still be made although they existed in different eras; overall Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was more successful than Booker T. Washington in his efforts. Washington supported assimilation into the workforce. This worked to improve the economic status of African Americans but did not do nearly as much as King did to advance African Americans politically and socially. Under Washington's ideals African Americans were not to be doing much of anything to advance themselves socially and politically at that time. They were to pay attention to bringing themselves up economically and to basically accept their social status at the moment and wait for it to change as they become more economically stable.
