The Aftermath of Death
Everyone will come face to face with death at some point in their lives: death is a part of the life cycle. After someone dies, their death affects many other people emotionally, and all the friends and family whom have been affected by begin to grieve, which is the grief or sorrow felt a tragedy or death. In Emily Dickinson's poem, “If I Should Die”, and Edgar Allen Poe’s short story, “Masque of Red Death”, the readers observe actions and thoughts of the characters in relation to death. Additionally, the aftermath of death is seen throughout the television series, Grey’s Anatomy, produced by Shonda Rhimes. Death is not only an important thematic concept in literature and media but all around the world people are dying

The doctors, nurses, and all the employees at the hospital continue their jobs even though death surrounds them. This medical drama television show is set in a hospital in Seattle and focuses on a group of people who start their careers of as interns and work their way up the chain to becoming great doctors through aggressive training. There are many different relationships that go on with colleagues, siblings, patients and many more. In season 5 episode 17, Derek finds old files that show that more of his patients have died than survived or as he sees it, he kills more patients than he saves. One night, Meredith arrives at Shepherd's, where he is hitting cans with a baseball bat outside his caravan. He tells her to go home and that he is not hiding - he is done. He says that Meredith is broken and cannot be fixed - tells her to leave. When she tells him that she knows there is a ring he takes it out and hits it to the woods with his bat, he goes inside, and Meredith shouts at him and says that she is not bailing. This episode shows how upset Derek got and how the deaths of his patients affect him as a doctor. He deals with his emotions by leaving everyone including his family, and his career. However, after a few episodes he returns and he continues on with his life. After George dies, his friends are laughing at his funeral, in season 6 episode 1, which is another way to cope with feelings. They are unable to deal with their true emotions. They know that he has died but laughing is another outlet, even in a sad situation, George's life is not sad. He lives a wonderful life and even though he dies a such a young age and so unexpectedly, he has many people who care
Sometimes the person returns to a previous stage. Death is emotional and it is natural to experience emotions. It would also have a psychological affect on an individual as knowing you’re going to die may be frightening.
Episodes Twenty-three and Twenty-four ,Season six are tied for second place because a character with revenge on the doctor rampage through the hospital. To begin,”A shooter named [Gary Clark] with a vendetta against doctors- specifically Derek, Lexie and Webber- rampages through the hospital, killing Reed and Percy, between countless others, while injuring Alex, Derek and Owen.” Over both of these episodes a shooter named Gary Clark was a former patient’s husband. His wife died and Clark feels like its Derek’s fault. During the episodes the doctors are faced with the challenges that come with this shooter in the hospital. Death has been putting fear into everyone who has stepped foot on earth for as long as anybody can remember. Two authors published their that theory in two different time frames. Edgar Allan Poe had "The Masque of the Red Death" published in 1842 while Clayton Johnson had the Twilight Zone episode, "Nothing in the Dark" published for TV in 1962. At first glance, "The Masque of the Red Death" and the Twilight Zone episode, "Nothing in the Dark" appear to be two completely different stories, but a closer examination reveals that there are many important similarities between the two stories protagonists, settings, and themes The two main characters in both selection are very different in many ways, but have the same mission to stay far away from death as possible. In The Nightmare by Henry Fuseli, he illustrates a picture of a monster on top of a dead girl. In “The Masque of the Red Death” by Edgar Allan Poe, he writes about a king trying to have the wealthy part of his town, escape death. Both the artist and the writer are symbolizing and trying to set off a mood about death.
To some people death is a tough topic to talk about. Others can talk about death all day without a care in the world. To Edgar Allen Poe and George Clayton Johnson death is a subject that they can talk about and even write a book about it. Poe wrote The Masque Of The Red Death while George wrote The Twilight episode called Nothing in The Dark. This was Poe first allegory and some people say that it was one of his best works. He was only payed twelve dollars for this story. Allen Poe life was filled with death and sadness. With ever women he loved, dying of a terrible disease. The Masque Of The Red Death and the Nothing In The Dark have very impotent similarity. In both of theses stories the plot, character, and setting are simialr in more ways then not. Death consumes the world, there has been almost three million deaths so far with only three weeks into the year. There are people all over the world who come face to face with death daily. It seems as if death roams the world. Some deaths are more tragic than others. In the story Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, several people die but the death of Curley’s wife was the most tragic of all. She was unjustly murdered and she didn’t even have an identity. When she died, she left the world in loneliness, in the end no one ever got to know her or mourn her death. She died alone. Innocent people die every minute, she was one of those innocent people. One minute, a person can be full of life and the next they’re gone.
People always die in Poe’s Stories Edgar Allan Poe was a great and mysterious author. He was a well-known author and became even more famous when he died. His poems were very dark and nerve racking. His stories are in schools all over the world and people still learn about him today. Edgar Allan Poe was born January 19, 1809 and he passed away on October 7, 1849.
“Grey’s Anatomy” is a medical drama show that takes you inside life at a hospital. This show is all about the experiences that doctors of Seattle Grace Mercy West Hospital go through on a daily basis. Grey’s Anatomy is a show that is easy to get hooked on. It is jaw dropping at times, you laugh and often cry. The show has been airing for an outstanding fourteen seasons. Grey’s starts out with five students who are fresh out of medical school trying to learn right from wrong; when it comes to being a doctor or surgeon. Throughout each season Shonda Rhimes, the producer, keeps the viewer hooked during the whole show. She stops at places that makes you wonder what is going to happen next, so you have to wait for the commercials to end, just to see if the patient pulls
Since its earliest days, mankind has unceasingly pondered mortality and the frailty of human life. Death has often been regarded as a mysterious and inevitable force of nature. As such, the idea of death is a recurring theme throughout the periods of historical art.
Death is an extremely touchy point to talk about. In "Native Guard" a book of sonnets composed by Natasha Trethewey. In the works of "Graveyard Blues", "After Your Death", and "Myth" death was the primary theme. The death of a loved one is always a hard idea to process. Over the course of their life they grew and emotional attachment to them and they touched their life in so many ways that life without them seems unimaginable. So, in this situation we take refuge in the Catholic teaching that this Earthly life is but a pilgrimage to return to Heaven. However, they may begin to wonder what good could possibly come out of a death. The answer to this question doesn't really have a logical answer on Earth. The logical explanation of death is not too optimistic. The explanation is basically that death is a part of life. Once the organs in a person's body start to fail and their heart stops beating and their brain can no longer function, they are no longer have the characteristics of a human being. There is not anything after this. Life began and ended. The circle of life for that person is complete. Looking at it from a religious point of view and thinking and believing in faith that there is something else out there. A place where there is no more suffering and no more pain. A place that when our journey on this Earth is complete we can go to the afterlife and see all of our departed friends and family. Many people view death as a gruesome topic. However, a classic horror story and death should be appropriate for our age group to read and study for numerous reasons. Students should be educated about death and start to learn the cultures as to how others view death. Adults cannot protect the students from the world forever and people die left and right in the world.
