Wow! Did you ever know that before you were alive 2 amazing people were born with good ideas to make the world a better place? A poem “Elegy on the Death of Cesar Chavez” by Rudolfo Anaya, is about a leader who fought for the rights of migrant farm workers in America. He started a union and also the working conditions . He also told people to stand up and fight for what’s right. He loved his people and his land. A non-fiction title “Harriet Tubman: Conductor on the Underground Railroad” by Ann Petry is about a leader who freed slaves and who made underground railroads. Also, she talks about what she did as a kid and as a adult. Both of these people made a big impact in this world because of what they did and they also helped people get out of their complications. However, Harriet Tubman had a bigger impact on the world because she freed slaves, which slaves were taught more bad and they were abused unlike the farm workers. April 23, 1993 was the day a messenger had told his people that Cesar had died “ha muerto Cesar, ha muerto Cesar.” (Analya,29) When people heard the messenger say that they couldn’t believe him. People would hear his words “Rise mi gente rise.” (Analya,30) echo across the land. This meant that he would tell his people to stand up for themselves. Before he had passed away, he had fought for farm workers rights and a community organizer, Cesar would bring people in together. In line 91-95 it says “Throughout Aztlan we call the young to gather; Rise and put aside violence and temptations. Rise and swept up by the truth of his deeds, rise not against each other, but for each other, rise against the oppressors who take your seat.”(Analya,31) This means that his people want to stand up for each other just like Cesar Chavez did for them.
