One reason Cesar Chavez was an effective leader was because he created a union known as the United Farm Workers. Chavez’s goal was to organize the farmers to receive better pay and better working conditions. He was not the first to attempt, others have tried but failed due to the power of growers. The article “Cesar Chavez Saved My Life,” written by Daniel “Nane” Alejandrez reflects on Mr. Alejandraz’s past, covering some very unfortunate events, but with a purpose of pulling emotion from the reader. While reading some parts of the article, I had to reread it over a few times to comprehend the point that the author was trying to make. The most important thing about knowing his past is that it is significantly different, and much more positive in the future because of one person, Cesar Chavez.

The act of slavery divided the North and South of the American Union, states seceded and formed the Confederacy. Harriet Tubman played a big role in bringing the Confederacy and Union back together. She went through slavery in the South, escaped and worked for the Union Army during the Civil War, all together making a difference on today’s society. Harriet Tubman, born a slave, escaped slavery in 1849 and became one of the most important abolitionist in American history. During the American Civil War she helped runaway slaves go from the South to North in an Underground Railroad. Harriet’s journey with the Underground Railroad helped hundreds of African Americans escape slavery, and soon abolish the act creating a big difference on today’s life.

Cesar Chavez fought for other migrant farmers because he had experienced what they were experiencing, and thought he should make a difference when Chavez started leading the UFW, United Farm Workers, is when his movement really started. Lots of things happened during Chavez’s childhood “At age 11, his family lost their farm during the Great Depression and became migrant farm workers”(Cesar Chavez Foundation). That is the main reason for why Chavez noticed the issues that were surfacing with workers, this is what got him into the farms. Cesar taught many unforgettable lessons “Cesar learned and taught others how commitment and sacrifice can set you free from the constraints imposed by depending entirely on money and material things”(Cesar Chavez Foundation). Cesar Chavez, a labor leader and civil rights activist, wrote an article that discusses his strong stand on how using nonviolent resistance is the better way to go rather than using violent acts. Inspired by the tenth anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Chavez writes an article about his argument on nonviolent resistance; he accomplishes that by using rhetorical choice like allusions, pathos, and tone.

The second contribution of Harriet Tubman is that she was a conductor in the Underground Railroad, a network of antislavery activists who helped slaves escape from the south. On her first trip in 1850, Tubman bought her sister and her sister’s two children out of slavery in Maryland. In 1851, she helped her brother out of slavery, and in 1857 she returned to Maryland to guide her old parents back to freedom. Overall Tubman made about nineteen trips to the south and guided about three hundred slaves to freedom. But during those travels Tubman faced great danger in order not to get caught she would use disguises and carries a sleeping powder to stop babies from crying and also always carried a pistol in case one of the people back out once the journey has begun( Strawberry 1).

Harriet Tubman, a runaway slave, helped so many blacks escape to freedom that she became the ‘‘Moses’’ of her people. She was born in 1820 in Bucktown, Maryland and died in 1913 in Auburn, New York. During the civil war, she served the union army as a nurse, cook scout, and spy for four years. In 1844, Harriet married a free black man, John Tubman. She left him in 1849. She married Nelson Davis in 1870 and stayed with him.She traveled at night and day guided by the underground railroad a secret network of secret routes and safe house’s. Harriet Tubman is a woman of faith and dignity who saved many African American men and women through courage and love for God. One would ponder what would drive someone to bring upon pain and suffering to one’s self just to help others. Harriet Tubman is well known for a successful role in freeing many slaves through the Underground Railroad. Not many know the major effect she had on the Union Army as a Scout and a spy during the Civil War. Her bravery while helping slaves escape through the Underground Railroad and her assistance in gathering Confederate troops intelligence as a spy changed the history and made a great impact on the on the United States National Defense. Even though Harriet Tubman was a very skillful spy, she had many indicators that were missed while she was spied for intelligence and reported the material which were compromised to her handler.

Many people throughout history have had an impact on America today. During the civil rights era, a long list of people took part in actions that shaped America 's ideas of slavery and racism. Harriet Tubman was a Civil Rights rebel who was born into slavery, took a stand for the freedom of all people through the Underground Railroad, and left a lasting impact on freedom in America.

Harriet Tubman was a poor slave girl who ran away from her plantation at the age of 28. Throughout the course of her life many people and many things challenged her. Each situation she was faced with tested either her mental or physical strength, usually both. She persevered through all of her trials stronger and wiser, and was willing to always help others through their own. Not one to instigate unless extremely necessary, Harriet was known for her quick thinking and her reactions to each ordeal she was faced with. She responded to them with a sharp mind, and strong faith in deliverance through the Lord.

To start off, Harriet Tubman was extremely selfless. She risked her life to save her family. She rescued her parents and brought them to the north where they would be safer. Not only did she save her parents from the harsh reality of slavery, but Tubman risked being placed back into slavery in order to free innocent strangers. She did this not only once, but nineteen times, each becoming more dangerous to do. Her last trip to free slaves being during a time where she was wanted. Yet, her selflessness doesn’t stop there. Not only did she save the lives of so many people, she also served as a nurse during the civil war. Tubman was able to help many of the injured Union soldiers. She did this not for herself, but for the cause of helping the Union win the Civil War.

Many of the farm workers were not very sympathetic of Cesar Chavez when they first met him, but as he began to talk and express the ideas he had for the movement, workers soon knew that he was the leader they needed. The farm workers were constantly moving from place to place looking for better work opportunities, but they were always afraid of not knowing if they were going to have enough money for gas, to get to their next destination. Cesar Chavez made the farm workers realize that by being passive and not giving up in their movement, no matter the struggle that came along, together they would make their goal

Out of all her achievements, Harriet Tubman nursing in the Massachusetts 54th regiment was the most impressive out of all her achievements such were saving slaves from slavery, spying during the civil war, care giving, and nursing. Without those achievements Harriet is now known as one of the best women to ever live. Without her the world would be a different
