Thirteen year old “Davis Blaser” , choir student will be explaining the first time she performed for choir.

This past fall, I was given the opportunity to audition for VA district 13's district chorus. As a member of the FUMA choir, I saw this as a breath of fresh air. Our choir is ok, but it has its strengths and weaknesses. Passing the audition would be easy, a short song and sight reading, I mean, it's not rocket science. Passing the audition with flying colors, I had about two months to prepare the chosen songs. (Learning a part solely by piano can be a long and tedious process, but thankfully we were provided practice recordings of our parts.) With only two months to learn my part, I hit the ground running listening to the mp3s whenever I had a chance to.

If you are not familiar with what Show Choir is, and the amount of time and work ethic you need, then you are in for a big surprise. Show Choir has evolved over the past years increasingly. Forget the young men and women in dark jackets and dresses standing on old risers and singing nice choral pieces. Show Choir has become a mini-musical sport. Many claim that Cheerleading and Marching Band is considered a sport, why should Show Choir be any different? Yes, show choir is mostly singing and dancing, but there is much more to it than one would think. I would know this because Show Choir has been a part of my life for almost 3 years now. I have experienced the hardship, fun, disappointment, pain, time, and joy, but it all paid off at competition when we would go to awards and see how we placed. Show choir is a sport, just as much as “cheerleading” or “marching band.”

On December 5th, the University High School Show Choir and Jazz Band performed. The show that the UHS Show Choir put on turned out to be fantastic. There were seven songs that the Show Choir performed, which varied from Ella Fitzgerald as well Broadway Musicals from Anything Goes, Gentleman Prefer Blondes, and Chicago. The first number was a song called “Anything Goes” from the 1934 musical Anything Goes, which was sung by soloist, Madelene Raneses. Madelene has very good potential in her singing as well as dancing. The dancing in this performance was greatly choreographed by Mylan Biltz. Furthermore, the concert moves on with their second number, which was Ella Fitzgerald’s minor, but lovely tune, “I Got Rhythm”. This song was performed

I chose to join show choir because I thought it would be a good way for me to leave my comfort zone and try something new and fun. The first time I thought of auditioning for show choir was when I saw them perform during my sophomore year. They sang and danced to a song titled, "Till the Love Runs Out" and the sound and choreography they did just blew me away. I knew then that I wanted to be a part of that choir.

I will tell you the process narration to have bomb makeup look. It’s start with apply primer before your foundation and then put foundation, next you put concealer lighter than your skin for your dark circles and after you bake your face so you won’t get oil during the whole day but leave for 5 or 10 minutes then brush out. After that you do your brows on fleek, next to that would be eyeshadow primer so your eyeshadow stay on and won’t get oil that’s were eyeshadow comes in put on and also you curl your eyelashes and put mascara on. You put highlight so your makeup looks slaying of course and also put blush, final thing you need to put on is lipstick that will suit you and we got with your makeup look too.

This is only for first term though. Typically there will be a few rehearsals between the end of first term, and Christmas break just to keep up with everything we fixed up to then. Even before Christmas break is over we start “hell week.” This is the first week in January where there is practice every night from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Then starting after hell week there are rehearsals every Thursday from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. for west connection. Compared to high school, middle school show choir practices and rehearsals are slim, yet they do have some similarities.

Show choir is a lifestyle to most it as we call it a way of living. Some people find it very offensive when they ask “do you want to join show choir”, and then they get a response like. NO I hate glee. My first question is what does glee have to do with it? Do people even know what show choir really is? Glee has made millions of dollars trying to portray their way of thinking about show choir. Do you ever see the parents that put in the hard work of costumes, stitching dresses that have fallen apart, making sure everyone costumes are fit, and they work hard at bingo most of the time to pay for it. For my concert report, I attended Rancho Alamitos High School’s Fall Choir Concert that was hosted on October 11, 2017. The concert was held at the Don Wash Auditorium, which is owned by Garden Grove High School, in the city of Garden Grove. Furthermore, the auditorium’s setting could be described as quite wide, dimly lit, live, and air conditioned, which allowed for a better performance.

Have you ever felt so much adrenaline you don’t know what to do? Did you ever have to cake on so much foundation you look orange? Those are some of the few things you will experience going to a show choir competition. You will spell burnt hair and so much hairspray so your bump will stay poufy. These competitions may be stressful but they are the most fun that you will ever have.

The next step is concealer. I am very picky about this process because it has to be exact and even. Otherwise it throws my whole face off. I apply just the right amount, dabbing it around my face. I look like one of those native’s with the markings on my face. As I sing along carelessly to Sing by Pentatonix, I rub in the concealer. Now my face doesn’t have those annoying red blotches all over.

During the Middle Ages, a cappella music was mainly all they had to choose from.During the Renaissance, a cappella music was primarily sacred, however, most secular music still was performed a cappella. During the twenty-first century, a cappella music had a different connotation, one that made it more musically difficult for the performers and ultimately more entertaining for the audience. There are many materials you need for doing your makeup. You will begin with the skin preparations. For that you will need face wash, toner, moisturizer, a towel, and primer. Then, for the eyes, you will need an eye primer, eyeshadow palette and brushes to apply. You will also need an eyebrow pencil for your eyebrows. Next you will need foundation, concealer, contour, blush, highlight, and bronzer. To apply these you will need multiple sets of brushes, like a foundation brush, a blush brush, highlighting, bronzer and concealer brushes. You will also want a beauty blender. These are sponges that you will need to dampen before using and that are used for the application of foundation for some, and blending. Lastly you can put on your lipstick.
