Sports should not be co-ed, due to the differences in the capability levels of athleticism between females and males. Sports are based off of age and skill, but the female and male genders each have major differences in athleticism. Sports such as football include factors such as size, strength and quickness. The male and female bodies are developed differently creating an unfair advantage to the men. Men are born stronger than women due to their production of testosterone which helps build muscle. Women do produce testosterone, but very little of it making the men naturally stronger. Men just happen to have denser and stronger bones and ligaments than women, causing a higher risk of injury. It is much harder if men and women play on the …show more content…
For example, according to Cassandra Meuret, author of “Co-ed Sports is Something That Should Not Be Considered” states “Imagine football being mixed with both men and women. A 250-pound linebacker charging at a 150-pound woman doesn’t exactly seem like the safest scenario.” (Meuret 1). Another example is strength. Stated in the article “Should sports be co-ed?” “strength is another big factor. The world’s strongest woman, who bench pressed 531 lbs, does not compare to the world’s strongest man, who bench pressed 1,008 lbs.” (S 1). We should not integrate men and women into the same team because with this difference in strength being as drastic as it is, that is not fair to the male or the female in the situation. Say the sport that is co-ed is football, someone who can press almost double as another person, is to tackle the smaller one, that could lead to a harmful injury. Strength and muscle capacity may be important to the difference in men and women, but height is another fatal factor. The article “Should sports be co-ed” provides another example of “NBA basketball player at 6’6.98” (2007-08 Player Survey: Height), which is well above the average height of a WNBA basketball player at 5’11.84” (2002-03 WNBA Player Survey Averages), the women would be at a disadvantage.”( S 2) With almost a foot difference, the male could reach the net a lot easier than the woman could. With this height difference, this causes the male to have naturally longer legs, with a longer stride. “The world record holder for the men’s 400m dash time is 43.18 seconds, which is 4.42 seconds faster than the world record holder for the women’s world record at 47.60 seconds (400 Metres).” (S 3). Say the world's fastest man, and the world's fastest women competed in a race. The male would win because of the difference in leg strength and
Beginning with the most prevalent controversy, the obvious physical advantage males have over females. “Weight, shape, size, and anatomy are not political opinions but rather tangible and easily measured.” (Connor) This is a strictly a fact, that men have natural, biological, and evolutionary advantages in many aspects of physical exertion, however, it wouldn’t be fair to say that woman have no hope in physical dominance over any man in the 21st century. Females in male sports aren’t just sitting ducks waiting to be beaten, they have a similar polar edge including speed, flexibility, and quick thinking. Looking at an example of this, Massachusetts high school wrestler, Danielle
Did you know that until 1972,females didn’t have the same sports rights as a male? Many people debate if girls should be able to play in co-ed sports. They claim it dangerous because guys are stronger than girls. However females should be able to play in co-ed sports because its raises a female's self esteem, and teaches boys and girls many important lessons in life. Granted some believe that girls should not be able to play in co-ed sports because it brings many dangerous to girls.
Imagine this, you just lost the most important game in the season, all of your teammates have their heads down in shame, but you take a deep breathe and hold up your gold, shinny, beautiful trophy in the lights with a proud face believing you will get over this loss… Imagine that. The ¨trophies for all¨ policy is part of a bigger change that has swept youth sports over the past two decades. Children should receive trophies for participating because kids gain confidence from receiving trophies, and it encourages kids to keep playing sports.
What schools without sports would come too. The students would not get scholarships that they very much need. There would be absolutely no school pride so there would be no pep rally’s do get everyone pumped up. The students that would play sports grades would drop because there is no motivation or drive to keep them up. If sports are cut from the schools there would be no school pride no chance of scholarships and kids would get really bad grade.
The setting up of co-ed, or mixed gender, teams in schools has been highly debated by many students, parents, and school staff. Some argue than not allowing girls and boys to play on the same team promotes gender stereotypes among kids, while others claim that because of differences in body size and strength, boys and girls should not be on the same team. Co-Ed teams are in place across the nation with many claiming that they “promote a healthy environment where boys and girls are equal”, but the reality is that the forming of co-ed teams in some sports like football or basketball is not a good idea because boys won’t be able to get as physical with girls as they would with boys, nor would they be able to play by the same rules.
Without sports America's schools would shatter in boredom and stress. Kids feel sports help their health and grades, parents agree with most of them. However schools think sports will cause academic failures. If sports disappear America's students will get stressed and stress results in academic failure. All schools should have sports programs because they relieve stress on kids, they help lots of kids score higher on tests, and they keep kids happy and healthy.
In the world of sports it started off that girls could never play sports and then in 1972 a public law called Title IX came to existence which allowed girls to play sports but not with boys. Today the question is asked should girls play on boys’ sports teams? One would think that girls should not play with boys on a sports team because boys are just naturally taller and stronger than women and they would dominate the girls in a fully contact sport. Another may think that if a girl is truly capable to play on an all boys’ sports team, then she should not be denied the opportunity to try out for an all boys’ team. Some other people may believe that sports at younger ages should remain co-ed because boys and girls body types are still
There is an ongoing debate about whether school sports should stay in or out of schools. If a school or a district cuts sports, they could save a abundance of money. Therefore, school sports should be terminated to save money to spend on other needed educational items, to improve academic grades, and get students better sleep.
Everyone goes to high school to pick a program with sports having sports can help kids not be fat to study more of what they want to do in the future .We shouldn't take the programs away from high school .in the second source I think it will help a lot of teens in school. So they can see how hard it really is to work for things they want so they can also be sure if that its really what they want to do if they really wanted to do this teens would try their best to get what they want . Some programs like nursing help you get their faster with all of the hard work the teens work hard for football can also put you in a really good college that would help you more with foot ball . JROTC IS also another program that helps you go to the army .Foot
There is also a perceived flaw with this issue in the world of sports. For example, there is a clear double-standard in gymnastics, as the men?s equipment is constructed for heavy, muscular men; where as the women?s equipment is suitable only for ?pubescent girls? who will one day grow out of the their competitive eligibility. Once again, we see the strong man glorified and the woman, of similar age, as obsolete with other tasks to perform. Similar injustices can be found in other sports as well, such as some of the ball handling rules in women?s basketball, which serve to slow down the flow and intensity of what should be a high-speed and exciting game.
People might still say that the segregation of genders in sports are making gender equality impossible, but the separation of genders in sports is not because one gender is better than the other. It is to ensure the fairness and equality. Women and men are naturally built differently and they both are both truly strong but in different ways. In order to keep sports fair, just and equal, the best thing to do is to keep sports separated by
When it comes down to organized athletics I believe that children should participate in them for the fact they teach them lessons to better them as a person and prepare children for success.
If a school could save money, but they had to cut extracurricular sports they shouldn’t. Sports help the students a lot. Sports lets students express themselves. It also lets them take their minds off of school for a few hours. School and home can be so stressful. Sports for some people can relax from all of that. Sports shouldn’t be cut from schools.
A plethora of schools face the challenge of deciding if extracurricular sports should be retained, or taken away. There have been studies that show that students who play in sports struggle with their school work. Therefore, in order to provide students with a proper education, schools should eliminate sports to allow more money for educational activities, improve many student's grades, and increase the academic participation of students.
Some people say boys and girls should be able to play the same sports, some say they should not. I think boys and girls shouldn’t be able to play the same sports because of transportation, boys hurting girls, and there would have to be the same amount of boys and girls on the same team to make it “fair” or “equal”.
