Should Schools Continue Year-Round Schools

Have you ever found yourself in the same schedule? Repeating almost the same day over and over. Students with traditional scheduled schooling have to go 70 plus days before just a short break. If we had year-round schooling the most we would have to go to school before a break is 45 days. Plus students would be able to advance more quickly, teachers would be happier, and our school would have a higher grade point average. This is why year-round schooling could help the staff and students of linden schools.

Imagine a school year that never ends. A year without summer, relaxation, and vacations with family. Summer is the time of year that every student cannot wait arrive. There are both many pros and cons to this controversial issue in today’s education; however, Year-Round School is not a good decision because of the social outcomes, the financial costs, and the academic effects that Year-Round School burdens on the students.

Year-round schooling is a good idea because it cuts down on the set backs of long breaks. The summer break that everyone knows and loves used to have a different purpose then just swimming in the sun. In the 19th century the children going to school also worked on family farm, so they used this summer “vacation” to help get ready for the winter months. One teacher said ‘"I don't feel nearly as burned out because of the way we spread the breaks out"' (Learning That Lasts). The nine weeks in school then three weeks out gives teachers a lot of time to plan for the upcoming nine-weeks and time to relax. Another statement about the teacher's point-of-view of the new schedule, ‘"teachers who work for year-round schools say that it gives them a break when they are on the verge of a breakdown"' (Long). Teachers have an amazing job by giving children their education. However, it can be tiring having to do everything they have to do within a day to a week or even a month. The teachers are one of the top people in the school that need a break. With the new schedule, teacher work days are placed when they are most needed, at the end of the nine weeks. This gives them time to finish grading and lesson planning before their breaks are half-way over. In fact, the schools who use the Year Round schedule have a lower staff turnover rate (Long). Around 3,181 schools over our country have all year-round -schooling. Some people feel that year-round schooling is very beneficial for the kids. Others feel that a nine-month school year is a plenty and that children need the long summer break. There are certainly pros and cons to both ideas. Which one is really the best, though? I feel that the traditional school calendar is the best way to go.

Year-round schools are increasing very fast. Florida shouldn’t go to a year-round school schedule because, it can make sports, and jobs very hard to commit too. Also, year-round schools don’t help students improve academically. Although, it would give faculty and students a break, year-round schools are a very bad idea.

Its mid June and students are anxious and have been long waiting for summer break. After about 10 months of hard work students should have the next 2 months to themselves. Over 3,000 schools in the country have made the switch to this new schedule. But is it really the right change? No, Schools should not change to this new schedule. With this change comes a rise in cost, difficult situations, stress and many other complications that would not be present with the traditional schedule.

Consider the following situation: A car is driving past the local elementary school on a hot and sunny July afternoon. As the car approached the school the driver notices some unusual things. Students are outside with the teachers for recess, and it looks as if school is in session. The school is on a year-round schedule. The driver is intrigued and decides to do some research. From the research, this person found that students are achieving more academically and the teachers are well rested.

Does year round school truly have a positive impact in the lives of students? Various studies do suggest that year round school is helpful. There are some disadvantages to this type of schooling that are preventing all schools from switching to this type of scheduling. In earlier times schools were only teaching throughout half of the year so that school would be out of session when it was time to work in the fields. This type of scheduling is still common today even though only a small portion of agriculture is tied into education and kids are no longer required to work. “In 1994, the National Education Commission on Time and Learning (1994) urged school districts to develop school calendars that acknowledged (a) differences in student learning and (b) the major changes taking place in American society. The report reflected growing concern about how the school calendar relates to students at risk for academic failure” (Cooper, Nye, Charlton, James, & Greathouse). As a result. many are fighting for year-round school. Year-round school has proven to be beneficial in the lives of students and has lead to greater success in the classroom. Although, there are some downfalls to year-round schooling.

The possibility of Florida having year-round school isn’t as low as some may think, and it has become a huge issue. Florida should have year-round school because teachers would spend less time reviewing work and kids would be more refreshed and focused. Although kids wouldn’t have time to take part in sports or summer jobs, year-round schools have many positive affects to it, and Florida should partake in year-round school.

When I return to school after summer, I always struggle to remember anything from the months before. For this reason, I personally think kids should go to a year round school. Moreover, kids shouldn’t have such a long summer vacation. Students should go to a year-round school for more intersessions throughout the year, so they have less stress, it will be easier to remembering what they learned, and year-rounds schooling has smaller intersession you can use if you are falling behind, you can catch up.

Florida should go to year round school because they get more funding, and they always keep you geared up. Although school in Florida gives teens a chance to earn money and teachers to prepare for the next year, your round school gives you a chance to go on nice smaller breaks with time to refresh. In conclusion, there should be year round school in Florida because you get more funding, and you're always ready to learn.

If you are home alone, your parents’ most likely worry about their child while away at work. To lessen their anxiety, schools should have year round schooling. It would help the parents don't be forced to leave their kids alone. The website hhs.org states “39% of seniors drink alcohol," in conclusion, your parents’ worry that one of those kids will be you. It would help children and teens not are so depressed and upset when their parents leave for work. There are also parents who stay at home and cannot figure out what to do with the kids. A house mom cannot figure out what to do with her teenagers, for they do not have anything to
