In the recent survey more than 54% of high school students say the school lunches don't have enough food or nutrition. Students should have the right to eat healthy and good tasting food. The district who orders the school lunches have been losing money for buying the lunches every year. Leading to a continuous decline in quality. The lunches are not enough nutritious for any athletes or the kids in general. The kids do not have enough food to stay healthy and energized. The school has lost to much money for lunches, and they are leaving kids hungry, sluggish, and miserable.
School lunches are declining every year due to loss of money from school budgets. This is because it's being focused on more academics leading to hungry kids with not the right amount of nutrition across our school district. stated by David Just ,Brian wansink agree that school lunches need to be improved soon because of the loss of fuel of the kids.
“And With declines in property values and other income, school budgets are declining. While not run for profit, school lunch programs must keep participation levels high and must meet costs in order to preserve the education budget of the school district.“ (1) As David and Brian state The school district is losing money due to the need of new technology and

This has caused many problems with athletes. And now kids have trouble paying attention in class. K Alaimo, R R Briefel, E A Frongillo, Jr, and C M Olson the Creators of this document agree with me stating ”Data was analyzed from the third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, a cross-sectional representative sample of the civilian noninstitutionalized population living in households. Individuals were classified as "food insufficient".” (1) This is quote is important because students aren't getting the right amount of nutrition leaving problems in school, sports, and extracurricular
The school has many ways to improve their lunches. My opinion to change and improve school lunch is by not having any processed food in our lunch and into the student's diet, and for the future students. We really need to make a change to help our student to have a better eating habits. Obesity rates have more than tripled and diabetes incidence has increased more than sevenfold. That's why we want to prevent the number from getting higher
This article by Great Schools is addressed to parents considered about the current school lunches provided to the children in their district. Unlike any other source, this one focuses solely on 3 organizations that advocate. The diversity of the listed projects gives an opportunity to expand on different approaches to solve the various problems of the lunch program. However, there is no attempt to address the current issues of our system, requiring a previous understanding of how the school lunch system currently operates.
Is school lunch actually feeding America’s children? (1. Rhetorical Question) Today, many students are reporting that they are unsatisfied with their school’s lunch. Strict guidelines set for America’s schools control what exactly is going through cafeterias in order to maintain healthy and happy students. However, students are disappointed in these guidelines and disagree that they are of any benefit. School lunches still lack nutrition, limit food choices and proportions, and neglect appeal. (2. Parallelism)
Nation wide almost all students have redused the amount of food they eat that is proved by the school/s when the first lady Machile Oboma out into action her “Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010”. Witch even though has helped many children across the U.S. Although beneficial to most who have been able to receive the help that the “Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010” gives to them, also has given more problems to the schools that participate in“Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010”.
Schools are being forced to spend literally millions of dollars in addition to their already overflowing costs of educating the children of our nation’s taxpayers. Since everyone is paying for these meals either way, we should be told that we are paying taxes to fund lunches that are so expensive because of “the requirement to offer both a fruit and vegetable — previously it was one or the other — and make students take at least one of them in order to receive federal reimbursement for the meal” (Watanabe). With all the new costs of school meals, school districts need the government rebates more than ever, so they follow the rules and make kids take foods that they
Nationwide students waist over 70% of fruits and vegetables, while others are sitting around without food at all in other places(Public brief). Some students only get the 2 meals they are provided with at school ,but they often are not provided with enough to eat. Its import for low income and less fortunate families to be provided enough time to eat to make sure they are receiving there energy and daily nutrients(Godoy& Allison). Increasing the school lunch time will also save the schools a great amount of money(Public brief). School lunch food wasted to cost $1.2 billion dollars each year, which is enough for a person to buy a new car everyday of there life(Public brief). A simple increase in time could save schools a bunch of money needed to improve the school building and faculty. Many cafeteria staff and teachers have reported complaints about how students aren't eating all their food and they have to throw it away(EHHI). Most of the time in high schools foods are sold à la carte instead of a full meal to avoid having to throw away or make more food(EHHI). As a result of the food waste cafeterias started using foods with more fats and less nutritious items to get students to eat( EHHI). Cafeteria are selling french fries and not the healthy food to make there money because students aren't eating enough of the
I think that the district should fund school lunches more or this could remain a serious problem. Some kids don’t eat lunch and they don’t get to eat until a few hours later when they arrive home. Several other problems include some of the lunches aren’t healthy, they don’t fill kids and are just plain bad. Some examples of how my solution would impact the kids is that the school can order/make better or fresher food. Also the lunches could have more vitamins and nutrients if it’s made in the kitchen. Therefore if the food was ordered, it would be from a better, more well-known brand for making that specific food, and they would arrive before anything so that lunch is ready for the kids. I believe that if the school district funded school lunches
It is no secret that school lunches are unhealthy. The problem is that on a daily basis will cause us problems beyond our childhood and into our future down the road. Eating a unhealthy meal here and there in moderation is one thing but eating unhealthy food's on a daily basis for more than half a year for over 13 years can cause obesity, lead to physical problems and lastly mental health issues. The schools are responsible for us when we are not at home and they claim they do what’s best for us but foods high in calories, fat and sugars is not what I would call doing a good job. The school system will argue that if we offer healthier alternatives that the students would not eat it and just throw it away.
In numerous incidences around the country schools have reportedly denied their students school lunches because their lunch accounts are overdrawn in some cases by only a couple dollars (Green). Also, traditional packed lunches are under fire, in part, because some administrators who feel that the lunches are not nutritious enough for students have banned them (Eng, Hood). Because some school children are going hungry and have no other means of obtaining a meal during the school day, the school lunch program needs to take additional measures to ensure that the needs of all US students are being met.
Public schools attempt to provide a healthy school lunch with money provided from the federal government. The federal government provides a little over $3 per student (Siegel). Districts are generally left to pay the bills that maintain the cafeteria which reduce the amount of money that the school has to fund the lunches (Siegel). School lunches may have links to obesity, which leads to the question what type of food are our children eating at school, and what type of effects are caused from school lunches. Going into research has opened my eyes to realize that school lunches are not always the best but it helps to feed the students who are not able to be provided a lunch from home.
Another reason healthier changes to school lunches would be a good idea is parents. Parents want to see or know their kids are eating healthy. when Students are coming home and telling their parents they are not feeling good from lunch or not eating school lunches at all because they feel it's bad or it just doesn't appeal to them, than you have to deal with the parents because they are going to complain about their son/daughter not eating the right type of foods or their child not eating at all because of the unhealthy choices the kids are not receiving. also the parents are paying the school to feed their child, so why not feed them right and healthy? My last reason I feel Healthier changes to school lunches is a good idea is more students will eat school lunch because they know they aren't just eating anything that would make them gain weight or they will not feel good from it. not saying the students will not buy the unhealthy food but it will not be good for them and can also lead them to bad eating habits outside of school. Eating healthy inside of school could translate to them eating healthy outside of school, which is great. This being said, I feel
Many of us have attended school once in our life. And many of us have tasted the dreadful school lunches that are served. Various people believe that schools need to provide more food in a meal. Society has been conversing about the nutrious value in a school meal and they wonder if the meat in the lunches are real or completely fake “beef”. School lunches have become even more unacceptable and need to be re-thought for the health of the younger generations.
School finance is a major issue throughout the United States. The distribution of school funds is completed using different methods throughout. The correct process must be selected to accommodate wealthy and poor districts. Local school districts are affected by the distribution of funds based on the value of the property in the district. Concerned citizens can be prepared for school district changes in revenue by staying informed of what is occurring in their community.
Think back; is there a school lunch that comes to mind? There may have been at least one school lunch that the lunch ladies would dish up that made a majority of the students excited to eat. Kids that routinely brought their super-hero lunch-box and thermos would leave it at home and jump in line for pizza or burgers and fries. Kids were also allowed to go back for “seconds” and for some students, it was the greatest meal of the week, including what their family served at home. The federal government has been involved in the NSLP (National School Lunch Program) since 1946, with the implementation of the National School Lunch Act. These initial programs developed the commodity distribution program for schools, institutions, needy households, summer camp, and other eligible outlets (USDA Food and Nutrition Service). Since this initial deployment, there have been various changes, the most recent being “Healthy Kids Hunger-Free Act” passed in 2010. This was an initiative of the First Lady Michelle Obama. The act was part of her plight against child obesity and also part of her “Let’s Move” action. The impact of the government controlling what is chosen for the school lunch menu has decreased student participation, increased waste, and decreased healthy eating among the students.
most kids don’t eat in the morning that could be bad for them enough but also not eating at lunch can really take a toll on the body. What that means is some kids don’t have meals throughout the day before school and during school and won’t eat until after they get home from school at dinner. Keep in mind this is all because they either don’t qualify for free meals or just because they have too much debt on their account because school lunches cost so much. Having free lunches for everyone just levels the playing field for all of the students, all students should have the right to
