Should NFL players be permitted to kneel at the national anthem? Some players that have defied team rules have been kicked off teams for kneeling. However, some advocate that this is a good way for the players to express their political views. Although these players are role models for kids of all ages, their actions imply that you can disrespect the flag, our American anthem, and our current military soldiers and veterans. NFL players should not be permitted to kneel at the national anthem because it is disrespecting our flag and military and violates team rules. To take a knee during the national anthem shows little to no respect for our flag, or our military service. As the people at ProCon.org once stated, “The national anthem pays respect to the people who have risked their lives, been injured, or died defending the United States”(ProCon.org, 2017). What this says is kneeling during the national anthem pays little to no respect to the people who risked their lives for our benefit. Moreover, the only reason these guys are able to play this sport, is because the men and women that protected our rights as humans, also our country. Therefore, the least the gentlemen could do is stand for a few minutes to pay respect to our country and our military service. As Mike Pence once tweeted on Twitter, that he wants nothing to do with anybody that will not respect our nation or military service(Wagoner, 2017). Mike Pence is saying that he does not want to notice the people that
Have you seen NFL players kneeling during the National Anthem? Well I have. And it’s not very cool. NFL players shouldn’t protestrest by kneeling during the National Anthem. Because they’re disrespecting our country, the players kneeling is causing viewers to boycott the NFL, and the players are a distraction to the other players.
“An athlete silently protests during the national anthem. People respond with taunts of "traitor," "you're a disgrace" and "leave our country!" Are these angry tweets aimed at National Football League players kneeling during the national anthem?”said by writers Lonnie Bunch and David Skorton.Due to half of the 49ers team kneeling during the National Anthem 49ers fans are burning their jerseys due to the refusal of the players to stand during the National Anthem. Many fans are outraged and boycotting National football because of the fact that football players are disrespecting the flag by kneeling during the National Anthem. The reason players should stand for the National Anthem is because the United States Flag stands for the individuality and
Should NFL Players Kneel? Athletes in sports, mainly in the NFL, have been expressing their feelings towards the police brutality on minorities. Athletes showed their feelings toward this subject by kneeling during the Star-Spangled Banner, instead of standing up high while holding their hands to their hearts. But, after this “extremely dangerous” protest, in Alabama at a Trump rally, President Trump acknowledged this controversy and said, “Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, you’d say, ‘Get that son of a b---- off the field right now.’ Out!
I do not think NFL athletes should be required to stand and participate in the national anthem. I think NFL players should be allowed to “take a knee” if that
It’s been hard to ignore the mixing of sports and politics lately. Some football players have been kneeling during the National Anthem instead of showing respect for the men and women in our armed forces. Although they’re trying to send a message to people all over the country, I think they are going about it all the wrong way. Football players should stand for the National Anthem no matter what.
This act of kneeling down should be considered as an act of patriotic criticism, rather than a betrayal of the nation. After all, patriotism does not mean that we should love and support everything that the government conducts, but rather we should criticize for the greater good of the government, so that it could improve. Government could only improve, if they can hear the voice from the people. Only after accepting the criticism can one improve. Therefore, the focus of such protest in the NFL should be why they protested, instead of the act of protesting. After all,
The anthem symbolises our freedom, and the cost of it. Many see the flag and anthem as an opportunity to pay their respects to all the men who have died in the military. When NFL players choose to kneel during the anthem, it appears to the public as though the players are not grateful for the sacrifices the members of the military made for them. Drew Brees said, “It's an oxymoron that you're sitting down, disrespecting that flag that has given you the freedom to speak out." Instead of creating a conversation about issues players are trying to protest, they are creating anger and division between players and the public hindering the players’ credibility to bring current and future social issues to light. Thus furthering Server’s claim that kneeling during the national anthem is
I think that the players in the NFL need to stand for the Anthem. America keeps us safe and we all need to respect our country. Some of these sports players have the biggest influence on us and there are many kids that may look up to them. These kids are influenced spin these players actions. But then I think I can see why some people kneel during the Anthem. Let’s use African Americans for example, they haven’t always had their rights in the U.S and sometimes aren’t always treated fairly because of racism. Maybe they don’t respect the flag because they feel like America has disrespected them. But here’s what I think should happen to the people who kneel. Each player that kneels should either have a two game suspension or be fined. For
The current debate over kneeling or sitting in protest during the national anthem to protest police brutality was ignited by Kaepernick in 2016, and later adopted by many other professional football players, high school athletes, and professional athletes in other sports, all who have refused to stand for the national anthem. These protests have created disagreement and sparked a public conversation race, police brutality, the flag and if the NFL is the best forum for to protest such issue. Colin Kaepernick has since said “he’s not protesting the flag but police brutality against African Americans. www.Procon.org
It would be unconstitutional for the NFL to ban players from taking a knee. Under the first amendment we are guaranteed freedom of speech, expression, assembly etc. The men and women who have fought for our country and those who currently are serving, fight everyday to protect those rights. Furthermore, an individual is not obligated to stand for the pledge of allegiance and/or national anthem. Taking a knee during the anthem may be considered disrespectful to some individuals but the stance is a harmless one. On the other hand, burning the American flag has been done several times in the past and presently. As much as some of us find burning the flag a wrongful act, it is not illegal. Regardless if you're for or against each scenario, it is
In 2017 controversy struck when the NFL tried “taking a stance” and protesting the National Anthem. In this protest, many NFL players one by one knelt down while the National Anthem played at their sporting event. The National Anthem is a song for our country and symbol to represent all of the men and women who have fought in our military. This song is not played just for our entertainment, it is to honor the flag and what it stands for. The protesting was started by Colin Kaepernick, last season, when he was the quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers. He was the first player to take a knee during the playing of the National Anthem, now many other NFL players this season are following in his path and doing the same thing. Many players and viewers claim it is for police brutality and the injustice that is being served, while other viewers see it as entitled millionaires disrespecting the flag and the military. Everyone has different opinions on the issue, but no matter what the country needs to respect one another as humans and be united; the American Flag is a symbol of our freedom and the NFL needs to recognize the National Anthem rather than kneeling and disrespecting what it stands for.
American’s should be for NFL Players Having Every Right To Kneel For The National Anthem because the first amendment is freedom of speech & anyone can exercise their right to do so without hurting anyone. The flag represents symbol of freedom, liberty and human rights. Wanting players to stand for the anthem just takes away their right and defeats
For many years, putting the American flag on bathing suits, bandannas, covers, phone cases, and sometimes on shirts with inappropriate designs are not represented as disrespecting the flag, but taking a simple knee is. John Stafford Smith wrote the national anthem at the end of the national anthem and throughout the web say’s that a person must be quit and stand with their right hand across their chest. In the NFL rule book does not state nothing about the national anthem( Fitzapatrick). Kneeling during the national anthem has created a big dispute between fans, reporters, and even the President of the United States. Should a man be penalizing for peacefully protesting what people thinks disrespect the veterans.
Have you ever watched a football game and wondered why some of the athletes were kneeling during the national anthem. Well if you didn't know they are kneeling to protest racism and injustice in this country. They are getting a mix of support and persecution at the same time which shows the country is at a complete divide. In this case persecution is just not the right way handle the situation. This country was set up and built upon a core value such as freedom of speech so why take that away now. Athletes have the same right to freedom of speech as an other normal paid person so they should be able to use it. Athletes should be allowed to peacefully protest the national anthem because the first amendment says so and guarantees free speech to all americans no matter who they are football players included, They have a voice on a national stage a should be able to utilize it, and just because their salary is higher than most people their opinion still.
Caleb I strongly agree with you because I believe that kneeling during the national anthem or during the pledge is very disrespectful to anyone who believes in the true spirit of americans. Many people have had their lives taken fighting for the flag and to kneel in front of it is very rude. I am not against protesting or people rights or any of that I just think that there is better ways to express yourself. He could have instead said something or even done something that showed that he thought that african americans or anyone should have equal rights. Americans are also very proud of the flag and when you kneel you kind of are saying that you don’t really care that much. If he is showing that he doesn’t care about his country he shouldn’t
