Kneel During The Anthem

Have you seen NFL players kneeling during the National Anthem? Well I have. And it’s not very cool. NFL players shouldn’t protestrest by kneeling during the National Anthem. Because they’re disrespecting our country, the players kneeling is causing viewers to boycott the NFL, and the players are a distraction to the other players.

Players in the NFL must hate America, or at least that’s what some would say when talking about the issue of what players do during the national anthem. Early last year in 2016 a NFL player for the San Francisco 49ers, Colin Kapernick, decided to take a stand by sitting on the bench during the national anthem. His reason was to bring awareness to police brutality, specifically with African Americans, in the United States. As you know, most people stand during the national anthem to show respect for the flag, our country, and the people who fight for it. In realization of what it meant to sit during the national anthem, Colin Kapernick decided to make a compromise by kneeling instead of sitting. His point on awareness to police brutality was clear by kneeling, but it also shows more respect to the women and men in the military, than sitting. Many players, not just African American players, have followed this movement. NFL players have the right to peacefully protest in this form and should not be penalized. This movement is a peaceful protest to bring awareness to police brutality, a practical way to grab the attention of people, and is a movement spreading further than the NFL.

Some football players have been kneeling during the National Anthem instead of showing respect for the men and women in our armed forces. Although they’re trying to send a message to people all over the country, I think they are going about it all the wrong way. Football players should stand for the National Anthem no matter what.

The movement of NFL players kneeling during the national anthem is a symbol of peaceful protesting. It does not symbolize a rebellion, it instead serves as the way to get the point across that the people will not stand for the social and racial injustice done to other citizens of this country. The action bears no disrespect to veterans or any other patriot who has fought and/or died for the United States.

All that kneeling for the anthem does is create a platform which divides fans of players like Colin Kaepernick. Should NFL players be permitted to kneel at the national anthem? Some players that have defied team rules have been kicked off teams for kneeling. However, some advocate that this is a good way for the players to express their political views. Although these players are role models for kids of all ages, their actions imply that you can disrespect the flag, our American anthem, and our current military soldiers and veterans. NFL players should not be permitted to kneel at the national anthem because it is disrespecting our flag and military and violates team rules.

The National Football League players who are kneeling for the national anthem are disrespecting our country and what it stands for. Our flag stands for freedom and liberty. The players should respect that. Before every NFL game, the flag is brought out by an Honor Guard. This is part of a time-honored ceremony intended to present our nation’s colors (the flag) and National Anthem in a respectful manner. By kneeling during the national anthem, they are disrespecting the flag, the national anthem, all our nation stands for, the people currently serving in the armed forces and all of those who gave their lives in our nation’s service. As a result of all the players or coaches kneeling, long time NFL fans are burning jerseys, cancelling season tickets, not showing up for games, not watching games, and canceling the NFL Sunday ticket and well they should.

In 2017 controversy struck when the NFL tried “taking a stance” and protesting the National Anthem. In this protest, many NFL players one by one knelt down while the National Anthem played at their sporting event. The National Anthem is a song for our country and symbol to represent all of the men and women who have fought in our military. This song is not played just for our entertainment, it is to honor the flag and what it stands for. The protesting was started by Colin Kaepernick, last season, when he was the quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers. He was the first player to take a knee during the playing of the National Anthem, now many other NFL players this season are following in his path and doing the same thing. Many players and viewers claim it is for police brutality and the injustice that is being served, while other viewers see it as entitled millionaires disrespecting the flag and the military. Everyone has different opinions on the issue, but no matter what the country needs to respect one another as humans and be united; the American Flag is a symbol of our freedom and the NFL needs to recognize the National Anthem rather than kneeling and disrespecting what it stands for.

Players in the NFL weren’t always required to stand on the sideline for the Anthem; it became a regular occurrence for players and teams to stand in 2009. Recently, many teams and players in the NFL have disrespected the flag and the unity within the country that is portrayed in the song. They do this by kneeling, sitting, and not coming out of the locker room during the playing of the National Anthem. All American citizens should always stand for the National Anthem, in respect for the flag and for the men and women who fought for the freedom we have.

Caleb I strongly agree with you because I believe that kneeling during the national anthem or during the pledge is very disrespectful to anyone who believes in the true spirit of americans. Many people have had their lives taken fighting for the flag and to kneel in front of it is very rude. I am not against protesting or people rights or any of that I just think that there is better ways to express yourself. He could have instead said something or even done something that showed that he thought that african americans or anyone should have equal rights. Living in a country where there is no police brutality, racial injustice, and inequality is what most Americans hope for. Protesting for justice and equality is something athletes have done for decades. Famous athletes such as Muhammad Ali and Jackie Robinson have protested in the past because of injustice. Despite the civil rights movement, people are still being discriminated and judged based on their race. If a NFL player believes the United States is not living up to its ideals of freedom, liberty, and justice for all, they should be able to kneel for the anthem because it is a peaceful form of protesting, they are not trying to disrespect our flag or country, and NFL players raise the question of why citizens of color still live as lesser Americans.
