The group admired the gun. “Nice piece,” said the leader. “Just make sure you give it back.” The leader waved his rifle for Paul and Sherry to move. “All right. Back to the command center.” Paul kicked at the dusty earth. “Where’s that?” “You’ll see. Now move.” They started walking. Yeah, these guys were pretenders, but if they contacted the actual border patrol, it could get messy. As they went, Paul wondered if Hector had set them up. * The “command center” was a white adobe hut filled with ammo belts, fuel cans, plastic explosives and a plasma TV tuned to Google Earth, specifically the Arizona desert just outside the door. As the men shed their equipment vests, Paul noticed their guts bulging over army-green cloth belts. And he …show more content…
* Paul let the men take charge. Sherry and he climbed into the back of their Humvee, and the men drove them down dusty desert roads, cacti everywhere. Finally the men dropped them off and even gave them two of their camouflage floppy hats to keep the sun off their heads. Could it be that things were working out after all? Paul wondered. Maybe so—and maybe not. Because they still had no idea what they were doing. But now at least they were in Mexico, which was a relief. They started walking. They passed a couple of towns that looked like they were out of the third world. Unpaved streets. No sewers. A lone telephone pole. Mangy dogs scampering about. And the heat was coming. They had the water but weren’t used to the power of the sun that far south. After a couple hours, Sherry was dragging. “Can we stop soon?” Paul knew they were in trouble without a guide, a connection to steer them someplace safe. And they needed transportation. And they needed both before they got burned alive by the scorching sun. There were no obvious choices. A town with a high church steeple up ahead seemed the most promising. They walked into town, only a few stray dogs paying them any attention until a man on a bicycle rode by and nearly fell off looking back at them. Paul figured they needed to lose the camouflage hats at the very least and stuffed them into Sherry’s purse. They made their way into the little
would come and rescue them. Hunger and thirst drove all three men to think unnatural
This evidence shows that Paul no longer has to be scared of Erik if he could find the courage that Luis had to stand up against Erik and that he also has people who will stand with him. Next, when Paul first moved to Tangerine that is all bad and gloomy with many problems, after a year it seems to be clean and fresh with all the problems resolved and all of the truth figured out. “The air was clear and cold. And the car and immediately filled up with that scent, the scent of Golden Dawn”(303). This example shows that ever since Paul moved to Tangerine County there's been problems with his family, school, neighborhood, and Friends.
Returning, he came to the realization that Cordelia Street is New York City; it’s Chicago; it’s San Francisco; it’s Seattle. No matter where Paul decided to travel to, he would face people and experience obstacles extremely similar to those of Cordelia Street. There would still be people who reapply their daily facade to satisfy one another, people who fall from their once proposed ambitions, and places that will be full of nothing but uncertainty, misery, and heartbreak. Cordelia Street is one place plucked from a multitude of disappointments Paul faced, and would continue to, no matter how desperately he attempted to convince himself
Summation- Paul was forced to find a way to escape and in the end the only way was to end his own life.
"That sounds like a good idea. I will go north and east. You go south and west. Meet back here if you find anything suspicious." Adam said.
This quote allows the reader to see that Paul’s “new life” was quickly coming to an end and that he was going to be forced to go back to his normal life if he was not able to come up with a plan quickly. The possibility of having to go back to live with his father in his normal life may have clouded Paul’s idea of reality.
“I’m not doing so good Paul,” I explained once the circle of students dispersed to go unwind for the night. “I just feel separated from the group since everyone is having such a good time and all I’ve wanted to do is allow myself to be upset.” I knew I could trust Paul since this was his 26th trip down to Nicaragua with the Brigade.
“Which way, do we-” The sound of footsteps quickly brought Vincent’s words to a halt, both realizing they were not alone.
“I’ll have 6 eggs, a big glass of orange juice, a banana, and some oatmeal please” said DeSean “ You’re one crazy kid” said the female bartender at IHop. “Yes ma’am, I might be crazy ,but ready for football this morning” DeSean responded swiftly. The bartender responded almost immediately saying “Damn right, hope you do well this morning, I’ll have that food out real quick honey”. DeSean waited for less than 5 minutes before chowing down on over 1000 calories. He exchanged some words with the bartender and he was off to football.
“Well I’ll be damned.” Major General Lewis said. “Well grab your gear and let’s get going, we shouldn’t leave them waiting.”
They knew the day was coming, they only needed to be prepared. They needed their lamps to light their paths
Mother kisses the top of Clem's head and calls for Dad to bring her school. He sets his newspaper down and gets up. He walks over to me and kisses me on the forehead and grabs my hand, giving it a firm squeeze. This is an odd gesture to me seeing as affection is not necessarily allowed in our city. Apparently it is a form of self-indulgence, which is frowned upon in Rauhallinen.
“What a pair we’d make.” Lotor’s tone had always been an octave too low, a shade too suave, affecting too much for Lance to be completely sure that all his shivers stemmed from the low temperatures.
"You are a mystery." Mr. Lyle, the current head of the telekinetics division, said to me.
“Come on, Marty. Let's go!” I stood up and yanked him to his feet. “We gotta follow the other guys!”
