Love can come from many different people. It is not always given by a family member. Love is not always given by a romantic interest, either. Sometimes love can be given by friends, especially in a time of need. This can be seen in Chris Crutcher’s short story Goin’ Fishin’. Goin’ Fishin’ is a short story about a boy named Lionel Serbousek, whose family is killed by his previous best friend, Neal Anderson. The story follows him through his grief. Throughout the story, Lionel’s friends are there to guide him through his grief and guard him from the outside world. Lionel’s friends love him like family.
Antwone "Fish" Fisher is a complex individual who has been through a great deal of psychological and sociological conflicts in his short life. His mother was arrested and then abandons him, he was abused physically and emotional, and then lived on the streets. In short, nearly everything bad that can possible happen to a person has happened to young Antwone Fisher before he has reached adulthood. In his autobiographical book Finding Fish (2001), Fisher explains how the torment that he experienced in his youth shaped the man that he would become in adulthood. Although this story tells about one young man's difficulties in life and how he had to overcome obstacles in order to be a functional and positive member of society, it is really a story about the larger human condition and how every person becomes affected by their experiences.
One must wonder why the social workers did not also place him in a foster home; like they did with his siblings. If Stanley was placed in a foster home, he may have never committed any crimes. A reason why Stanley may not have been put in a foster home at that time was because
In the novel, Finding Fish, Antwone Fisher explains about his poor experience growing up as a foster child and trying to find success in life. Mizz Picket was Antwone and Dwight foster mother; the boys would experience physical and emotional abuse by her.
Fishing is a fun way for me to spend some time with my family members and just relax feeling the refreshing breeze hit my face. I enjoy going with my older brother to the lake here in Newton or Out in other towns. One time me and my brother went to a lake outside of Newton in a different town and stayed there for most of the day. We hardly caught anything but it was fun being out there with only my older brother. And the fish we did catch were all to small to take home to cook and man I wish we did catch a big one.
He promised to make a difference for the foster community, so he decided to get his bachelors in social work and intern with the National Council for Adoption. Having experienced the harsh realities himself and knowing the struggle for the children in foster care, he said “the reality of facing life's responsibilities alone is paralyzing; often we are far behind educationally, socially, and emotionally compared to those who grew up in loving families” (Lawson). Most of these children in foster care, ranging from two to fourteen, have to leave home because of neglect and trauma that had happened to them previously. Most of them don’t know what it's like to live with a loving and healthy family like most of American children get to experience everyday. Foster children experience maltreatment at home and in the system that becomes a catalyst for more corruption in their lives.

Ever since I was a kid I have enjoyed fishing. Fishing relaxes my mind and allows me to get away from the stress of the real world. From the cool breeze around the lake to the fishes nibbling away at the bait, it’s all just very relaxing. There was one day where I caught more fish than I had ever caught before. The entire day had been going my way. My boss called me and gave me the day off and that alone is a good way to start your day. After getting the day off I was able to get a few extra hours of sleep. Being able to sleep in allowed me to get the some rest that I had not been able to get for a few weeks. After getting my well-deserved rest I decided to go to the pet store to get some fish bait. Fishing was not my original plan for that day but since I was able to get the day off and I didn’t have any other plans I was able to plan to do one of my favorite things.
A 17-year-old atypical teenager, Michael Oher has been living with many foster parents throughout Memphis, Tennessee. He was basically an orphan because his father dies when he was young and his mom is never around due to crack addiction. Every time he finds a new home, he runs away. Fishing to some people may just be fishing. But fishing to the people who have read A River Runs through It some time in their life, is a gift. Whether fishermen use bait, worms, or George's flies it is that much sweeter to catch some trout with a brother under one arm and a father on the other.
Fishing is an activity I have enjoyed doing ever since I was a little kid. In fact, one of my first fishing voyages was with my grandpa when I was about eight years old. He was an avid fisherman who went fishing almost every day and knew everything there was to know about fishing. Grandpa got me hooked on fishing. After Grandpa died, my dad picked up where Grandpa left off. We had a pontoon, and Dad took my brothers and me fishing whenever we had the chance. To this day, I still love fishing just as much as I had on my first fishing trip with my grandpa. Many people enjoy hobbies that are relaxing and peaceful, and others prefer exhilarating activities that never have a dull moment. I enjoy fishing because it has some of both.
