Despite the packing boxes and the moving truck parked on her street, Riley Matthews could not accept the fact that she was moving to Austin, Texas. She had only ever known New York City. Her two best friends, Maya Hart and Farkle Minkus, lived and conquered the world with her since the first grade. What would she do without them? Her mom promised her that she would make new friends in Texas, but Riley couldn’t trust that. Moving to Texas would be the end of her life as she knew it.
“How ya doin’?” Topanga asked as she peeked into her daughter’s bedroom. A frown entered her face when she realized Riley had barely packed. “Sweetie, we are leaving tonight. The truck has to be loaded.” Topanga reminded as she grabbed the empty suitcase off the floor and started packing the clothes in Riley’s closet. “I’m not going, Mom.” Riley protested from her bed. “You are going Riley. Moving is apart of showing you the world. Now why don’t you help me pack your room?” Topanga answered. Riley sighed as she removed herself from her bed and started towards her desk. Slowly, she loaded the items from her desk into the box. “Fine, I’ll go, but I am not going to like it.” the usual cheerful Riley huffed.
Flash forward to the next morning...

They had been on the road for six hours and still had about twenty left. He had volunteered to take the first shift of driving while Topanga slept; they would switch after they stopped for breakfast. Cory knew the move would be hard on the whole family, but he was being offered a job opportunity that he couldn’t pass up. He loved teaching history to middle schoolers, but being the dean at the University of Texas Austin was huge. He would be making more than he made in a year at John Quincy Adams Middle School. Still, Topanga would have to find a new law firm to work for. The bakery that the Matthews family owned would stay open, but Katy Hart would now be the

Cindy Eastwood was a fifth grader who had moved from Boulder Elementary School in Montana all the way to Orchard Hills Elementary School in Michigan for her mom's job. Cindy's parents had relatives in Michigan who invited them to stay at their house until they found the right home to buy since their family was really big. Throughout the weeks leading up to the first day of school, Cindy's family had a limited amount of time trying to find the “right” house. Fast forward three weeks, the Eastwood family had already bought their new home and registered for the upcoming school year. When comparing Texas to others states in regards to providing services for the poor, Texas is considered more restrictive (Brown). In Texas, the primary goal is to provide a temporary aid to a family in need. This way families can start earning an income and provide for themselves, ending their dependency on welfare. The breakdown of Texans that lack health insurance remains high, by age there are an 84.5% of adults and 15.5% of children( Champagne).
In the short story, “The Kind of Light that Shines on Texas”, Clint the protagonist of the story endures many conflicts in the story and racism is one of the conflicts he endures. Racism isn’t something that everyone goes through, but people have witnessed it sometime in their life. Today there is a racial divide in the United States. Racism is still very much alive as it is in “The Kind of Light that Shines on Texas”. That being said, I empathize for Clint because I’ve grown up around racism, witnessed and endured racism in my lifetime.
In our society today the population has grown drastically from ten years ago and it is not going to decrease any sooner. In the last ten years the population has increased by 4.3 million people in the United States. The population in Texas has increased a lot more quicker than the national average. So what exactly is happening in Texas in order to be the second largest population in the United States? The population growth is becoming a major problem in our state of Texas and we can’t find a solution to stop the population from growing. The reasons why the population of Texas is becoming a problem is because of migration, living the american dream, and how Texas court ruling affect immigration.
It was an awesome Friday and I was in Texas. It was April and my birthday was in April. You might be wondering why I am in Texas because I live in Iowa. I was in Texas because my dad hit his head badly and he almost died.
This is a fictional story which takes place fifty years ago. At the same time, the story still possesses some factual information. The year was 1963 and I was on a mission to become the next President of the United States of America. The President at the time was Mr. Kennedy but I was going to change all of that very soon. I was trying to figure out how in the world I was going to go from Florida (where I lived at the time) to Texas (where Mr. Kennedy was going to be giving a speech) to meet up with the President. When I was brainstorming ideas for the trip, I saw a big truck that said in big red letters on the top “Going to Texas”. I hopped on the back of the truck and rode my way across the country. As I was on the truck, I realized that I needed some kind of a weapon to shoot at the President.
“I’ve got a wonderful job offer so we are moving to Georgia,” her dad had spit out, finishing her mother’s sentence. Caylee’s happiness came tumbling down. Now she had wished it Zoe was getting something instead of this. “How could something like this happen?!” she had thought. Caylee didn’t want to move, she didn’t want to reply, she didn’t want to leave her friends, and she didn’t want to cry. Caylee ran out of the kitchen as her eyes filled with tears. Her mom had tried to grab as she ran, but she had pulled away.
Sally Stratton had just moved from Los Angeles, California to Mexico City, Mexico. She would be attending a public high school in Mexico City. It was going to be her sophomore year and also her first year at Eton High School. Sally and her family had recently moved to Mexico City, Mexico because her dad was offered an incredible job offer as a Managing Director. A lot of people have been moving to Texas , which has cause the lawmakers and the presidential candidates to put a spotlight on Texas. About 5.9 million people have migrated to Texas between 2005 and 2013, from 5.9 million people about 4.8 million of them came to Texas from other states, which means that the last 1.1 million people came from other countries. In other word about 345 people migrate to Texas per day. Lloyd Potter, a state demographer who work the office that provide the periodic snapshots of how the state is growing, stated that more than half of Texas’s population change is from net migration. Meaning that they are more people coming to Texas than the ones leaving Texas. Between 2013 and 2014, the different between the number of people who came to Texas and the number of people who left Texas for other stats was 154,467. People who moved from California about 80 percent of them were born in the United States. And the majority of the people moving to Texas from
“Why do they have to make everything so complicated!” Hannah Page exclaimed from the perch on her bed. The tight knit group of girls that I have been drawn into were sprawled across a bedroom, all of us complaining in agreement about the amount of effort it took to plan a simple day trip when the male half of our dysfunctional pseudo-family was involved. Phones were buzzing as we tried to organize last minute plans, with the boys continually introducing complications that hindered us from our goal. The girls and I continued filling the air with plans for a day in Nashville, as the boys either interrogated us for details, or in Zach’s case, stopped replying all together.

I’ve travelled internationally since the age of two. Some say that makes me fortunate, but I think it means my parents are morons for wanting to lug a baby around Europe and then expecting me to have vivid memories of the entire trip ten odd years later. I remember eating in a McDonald’s that my parents claimed to be in Paris, however, for all I know it could’ve been a McDonald’s down the street from my house. Besides a cute story about me running around Versalles; the trip was kind of pointless - sorry Mom and Dad.
Summer was approaching, Megan could tell by the way the warmth of the sun danced across her skin. She was finishing up her last week of school, excited to see what summer adventures she would have this year with her parents. The school bell rang and all of the students ran to line up in front of the door, screaming goodbyes at the teacher and at each other. One by one, they exited the classroom, made their way down the once colorful halls, and then out the doors to greet whoever was picking them up that day. Megan searched the crowd of parents, sprinting towards her father who was standing with his arms wide open.
The Arizona state graduate looked up from the gas pump. He looked up at the friendly gas station worker who he had just talked to. Kaden waved, so did the worker, and he set off down the lonely highway back home. Kaden had just moved to Durango Colorado with his beautiful wife savannah and was just coming home from the multi-million-dollar industry that he owned just as it started to get dark.
