I’ve travelled internationally since the age of two. Some say that makes me fortunate, but I think it means my parents are morons for wanting to lug a baby around Europe and then expecting me to have vivid memories of the entire trip ten odd years later. I remember eating in a McDonald’s that my parents claimed to be in Paris, however, for all I know it could’ve been a McDonald’s down the street from my house. Besides a cute story about me running around Versalles; the trip was kind of pointless - sorry Mom and Dad. On the bright side, it made me learn one thing about myself at a young age: I love the glamour in travelling. There’s something about having a matching luggage set, buying an iced coffee and a hoard of trashy gossip magazines that appeals to me. Travelling makes regular me feel like a celebrity as I …show more content…
What can I say? I’m a woman of true class. Our first flight was to Texas, the second to Germany and then finally Amsterdam, Holland. I’ll give you a quick overview of what went down in those eighteen-ish hours. I don’t really remember what happened on our flight to Texas because I’m ninety percent sure that as soon as I sat down, I passed out. What I do remember is that as soon as that flight landed, I hunted around the airport desperately in search for a Starbucks, because, y’know, the best thing to do when you have a stomach ache is to drink coffee. Whatever, the pain was worth it for the sake of the glamour. Before leaving for Germany, my parents gave me a smug goodbye as they boarded their first class seats. I, however, was stuck in the far back next to a woman that brought her personal liquor cabinet, would do a shot, pass out and repeat upon waking up. That was the first time I wondered that maybe this trip wouldn’t be like a romantic

In the months, weeks, and eventually days leading up to my flight to Germany the panic was gnawing away at me. Despite the fact that this wasn’t the first time I was venturing out without my parents or even my first time on a plane, it was my first time for a myriad of other experiences in my life. My first international adventure, my first time living with a family that wasn’t my own, and my first time being surrounded by people speaking a different language; all of which began with a simple decision to cross the threshold between the jet bridge and the plane.
My state is Texas. It makes up 1/12 of all of America's land. It joined the union December 29, 1845 making it the 28th state to join. It is also known as the Lone Star State. But it got its name from the Indian word ‘tejas’ which means friend.

May 10, 2015 me and my wife, although, we are culturally married not legally I go by wife, left the US for Europe, which is on my bucket list of places and things I like to do thinking to be little fresh and see new places. I had visited all the eastern coast of the US, but, never been out of the country. We had a stop in Amsterdam, Holland. Holland also known by the Netherlands is a small country easily associable by cycle. We stay there for two days and headed towards Switzerland. New places, different language and everything different to me. It was unplanned travel and no knowledge of the country and geographical location. All I had heard was there is a country named Switzerland, and it’s rich.
I had never been on an airplane. My stomach felt like I had just eaten rotten fish and I was about to throw up. I was so excited to go, but at the same time I was scared because I had never been on a plane. We waited in the airport for at least an hour. Finally our flight was called, as I walked on the plane my heart was about to jump out of my skin. After the flight attendant had went through all the rules and we put our seat belts on the plane was going to take off. I thought the worst thing about the flight was taking off and landing. I didn?t like taking off and landing because my ears popped. Other than the fact that my ears popped taking off and landing the flight went smooth, we didn?t crash. When the plane landed, I couldn?t wait to stand on solid ground again.
I dreamed of this parent-free Parisian jaunt from the second I signed up to study French in the seventh grade. It seemed like some far-off fantasy until we hit turbulence three hours into the flight, and I suddenly felt completely and utterly overwhelmed. Before this trip, the furthest from home I had ever been was a family vacation to the Caribbean and even that was a bit of a culture shock. How
The flight was 2 hours long they served drinks and had in flight movies I watched the new movie Logan. We fly over the gulf of mexico, Aqua blue the prettiest things i've seen in a very long time. We landed in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Out the doors of the airports we go 100s of taxi drivers babbling about things like want a tazi? I'll take you wherever you want! Half price ride! We continue walking until we find a guy with a sign saying Fiesta Americana. We hop in the taxi and there we went.
During Thanksgiving break of my sixth grade year, I embarked on a journey with my family to Spain. Though I had been taking Spanish for three years, I had a very limited vocabulary, but since neither of my parents have ever learned Spanish, I was still one of the best speakers in my family. I was very excited, but also very nervous. It was my first time visiting Europe as well my first international plane ride. Our plane took off at around seven pm our time, and we arrived in Madrid when the sun was just starting to peek through the clouds. We checked into the hotel, dropped off our bags and hit the city.
On Saturdays, I would usually get up, eat breakfast, brush my teeth and get dressed to go out. But that Saturday was different. That Saturday I had to go visit my uncle in New Zealand. I had purposely been ignoring my uncle since the 4th grade when he bought me an ugly christmas sweater and forced me to wear it. That whole day I got obnoxious laughs by everyone. But I was 18 and that was years ago.
I’m from Texas but I do not ride horses to school. I’m a big city girl with a little bit of country in her. Meeting new people has always been exciting and nerve racking, I love friendships and value them so much. I came to Pepperdine over the summer for a camp and met many staff members and students. If you have not been on campus before I can give you a mini tour. I would not like you to get lost and if you have been on campus well even better we get to explore places we both haven’t been.
It all started one early morning in June. I was awake and was so anxious I hadn’t slept all night. I was ready for my first out of country experience. I had my suitcases packed and in the truck before anyone else. Once everybody’s things were packed we all ate breakfast.
My journey the day I left my home country in search of a better life was not as pleasurable or exciting as I expected. Although it was not a long flight, the accumulation of unexpected vicissitudes during the trip made my dream of traveling an absolute nightmare. Not only my sadness to be leaving my family behind, the uncertainty to fly alone and for the first time, or my inexperience with the procedures at the airport contributed to this calamity, but even my neighbor on the plane added his bit of sand in the affair. All this situation was such traumatic to me that I even considered never daring to fly again.
