Shih Tzu’s were once the royal dogs of China, the most common owners for them were royal emperors and empresses. Shih Tzu’s are very interesting dogs with a remarkable past. They always are fun, active, playful dogs, but a lot of people ask 3 certain questions about them. A Shih Tzu’s name stands for 2 things. The most common nickname for a Shih Tzu is “lion dog”. The reason it is nicknamed lion dog is because Shih Tzu is Chinese for little lion. The reason a little dog like a Shih Tzu is being compared to a lion is because ancient Chinese rulers thought that the little dog had the same outline of fur as a lion. The 2nd nickname not many people know about is Chrysanthemum dog, It means like a flower. Many people believe that it does not shed hair because they see no hair on the carpet, couch, chair, or anywhere. That's because when Shih tzu's shed their hair, their long coats of fur stop the hair from reaching the ground.
