This article was about females’ sexual arousal and masculinity- femininity. It began by stating that it doesn’t matter what the female’s partner’s sex is, they can be sexually aroused by both genders. Their sexual arousal is dependent on other factors such as the context, social, or culture. Because of this, there can be more variability among females’ sexual orientation, attraction, or arousal. Although it is mainly seen in women, rather than in men; there are a few exceptions

What is masculinity? Answers may vary depending on who you may ask, C.J. Pascoe’s ethnography titled Dude, You’re A Fag: Masculinity and Sexuality in High School targets high school as being the important location where the term masculinity is asserted, defended and defined by the students who roam the halls of River High. High school is a difficult time for anyone, especially when we bring up the ideals of sexuality and gender identity, all topics which are explored in this ethnography. Pascoe spent around eighteen months of fieldwork in the racially diverse working middle-class River High School. Dude You’re A Fag sheds a new light on masculinity as a meaning as well as a set of social practices. C. J. Pascoe 's unconventional approach examines masculinity as not only a gendered process but also a sexual one. Pascoe demonstrates how the threat of the word fag becomes a disciplinary mechanism for regulating heterosexual as well as homosexual boys and how the "fag discourse" is as much tied to gender as it is to sexuality.
Identity plays a huge role in female sexuality because it allows females to figure out what type of woman they are. Identity is a person’s expression or conception of their own self. It is very important for woman to find their identity, to find their drive for their female sexuality. Throughout her whole essay “Selections from Hard to Get: Twenty-Something Women and the Paradox of Sexual Freedom,” twenty something woman are defied with the battles of being a lady in this day and age acknowledging they are being pushed to act in a manner suitable enough for men and the standards of society. The author utilizes the idea of sex and love to express the way these ladies feel utilizing the word "splitting" to categorize the instability and concern
It is our notion that a general crisis that stands in the best way of comprehending feminine sexuality is the scientific categorization scheme that is presently being used. It was a development of the American Psychiatric organization, or APA, meant for the organization's Diagnostic and Statistical manual of disorders (DSM). This was undertaken in 1980 and the revised versions have been released in 1987 and 1994. This precise scheme classifies the sexual problems of guys and ladies into four sections in terms of sexual problems.
More modern ideas about hookups encourage sexual behavior, which includes sex before marriage, and other forms of uncommitted sex. This is shown through many forms of media including books, magazines, and television. There were many different movies made such as “Hooking up”, and “No Strings Attached” that encourage the idea of uncommitted sex. The article begins to look at things such as sexual scripts and uncommitted sex. This explains that for men, sex is critical for their male identity, and they prefer sex with no relation, whereas women are sexually objectified and are the ultimate deciders of whether or not sex is going to occur. In the popular media, the images of sex are becoming more centered around sexual pleasure instead of focusing on the reproductive motive. However there are some gender scripts as well which may contribute to the confusion and expectations of hookups. In casual sexual encounters, there seems to be some deviations in the scripts in relation to casualness and emotional investment in the sexual partners. Men described sexual encounters as being friends with benefits, and that it was nonrelational, but when being interviewed, men mentioned alternative definitions that seemed to relate more to potential romantic relationships and emotional
Sex and gender play a big part in american society today and are often misconstrued. These two topics have become progressive as people are starting to express their gender and sexuality in ways other than what is and has been considered the norm. Many people believe that sexuality and gender are synonymous with one another. Gender is socially constructed while sex is biologically determined. In society’s past, Americans often strayed away from discussing controversial topics, but with the rise of different ways of addressing people, it is deemed more important to understand. Along with the blurred lines of gender and sex comes sexuality, who someone is attracted to sexually. When people stray from society’s heteronormative mindset, they are often faced with many more challenges than the average hetero man or woman. People often have the preconceived notion that if something does not concern them, then they should not be involved in it. A person who could be your neighbor, co worker, or even child, may have to deal with the troubles of people confusing their gender identity with their sex. While also facing challenges that deal with the sex of the person they choose to love. Learning the difference between gender and sexuality will open the eyes of many people and see how the two are different but relate to one another very much.
Are men and women’s sexual desire the same as we get older or is it just a myth that a women’s desire decreases as we get older? It has been my experience that conversations with other women tend to always lead into when we “had” to have sex last. Most of the women I talk to about this topic do not enjoy sex as much as they once used to. The significant other seems to want to have sex much more than the female does. I understand this does not include everyone. One of my goals for this class was to find out why this decline happens more significantly to woman, and if there is anything that can be done to fix that decline.
I feel there are many works of LGBTQ writing out there that, although innovative for their time, could benefit from being extended with a stronger queer lens. Savin-Williams Memories of Same-Sex Attraction was one of these, although I enjoyed the stories and concepts he brought forward. What I missed, however, was an emphasis on the concept of attraction on multiple levels that extend beyond sexuality and a stronger discussion of the reoccurring traits seen in gay male youth. I know we’ll be touching on homosexuality and masculinity later in the semester, so I will try to avoid breaking into that. Instead I will focus my interests in the idea of attractions and what effects this could have on the representation of masculinity. My goal is
Female sexual fluidity is an interesting topic to discuss. In the text book, Human Sexuality: from Cells to Society, Rosenthal (2013) explains sexual fluidity as “the idea that a person may change from other sex-attractions to same-sex attractions throughout his or her life” (p. 236). Rosenthal went onto explain how men who was in a heterosexual than change their sexual orientation then they finally found who they are, but for women it is different. However, when a woman switches it can be for attraction to either the opposite or same sex or it can be for a different reason. Throughout this paper, I will try to dive into the hot topic of female sexual fluidity and how women can change their sexual identities, attraction, and behaviors in their life span.
The current research aims to examine gender differences in sexual fluidity. We also seek to examine the degree of sexual fluidity in heterosexually identified women, as well as the effect of gender expression on an individual’s attraction. Lastly, we aim to examine the degree of inconsistencies in a woman’s attraction’s, fantasies, and behavior. We hypothesize three different outcomes. First, we predict that women will be more sexually fluid in their attractions, fantasies, and behavior than men. Second, we predict that women who self-report their gender expression as feminine are more likely to be attracted to women whose gender expression is androgynous. Lastly, we predict that there will be discrepancies between a woman’s attractions,
Throughout history there has been speculation about what influences sexuality in men and woman. Is sexual orientation biological or cultural in nature? There is a common misconception that sexual identity operate in parallel with gender roles( Sell, 2005 as cited in Wilkinson & Roys, 2005, p.65). Scholars have not came to an agreement regarding what actually comprise a person’s sexual orientation, however a sexual orientation has been deemed a cumulative experience and interaction of emotional and sexual feelings towards one or both genders (Wilkinson & Roys, 2005, p.65). The paper provides provides some clues as to what factors influence sexual orientation in men and woman.
Sexual arousal can vary from person to person. Some people are aroused just by looking at a person, being touched in a certain place on one’s body, or thinking about a sexual act. Sexual arousal, or sexual excitement, is described as a physiological state as well as emotional. Physiologically, it is defined as an increased amount of blood flow to the genitals during a sexual act. As the amount of blood flow increased to the genitals, the clitoris swells for the woman and the penis erects for a man (Sexuality and U). Researchers have done studies on sexual arousal, particularly Gerulf Rieger, Ritch C. Savin- Williams, Meredith L. Chivers, and J. Michael Bailey. These individuals did a study where sexual arousal experiments were done with female individuals to test the level of sexual arousal physiologically based on the sexual orientation of a female (Rieger, Savin- Williams, Chivers, Bailey, 2015).
In other words, a man is inclined to be assertive toward sexual intercourse, whereas a woman would normally not be
Female sexuality intertwines with Possessing the Secret of Joy by illustrating its power and those who fear it.
Human sexuality plays a major role in everyone's life. Regardless, whether we are young or old, man or woman, American or Japanese, it is an integral part of what we do and who we are. There has been much done by way of research and scholarly writing examining human sexuality (e.g., Abramson & Pinkerton, 1995; Beach, 1976; Diamond, 1997; Reinisch et al., 1990; Stalcup, 1995; Tiefer, 1995). This paper will explore the topic of human sexuality as a motivation. Of course, there are many emotions associated with human sexuality, but the primary aim of this particular paper will be a general overview of sexuality with special attention to the various perspectives, including the:
