I want to have 4 children one day. Two girls and two boys. My children could be vulnerable to sex trafficking if I don’t teach them the dangers of what a conniving, charming, and manipulative person could do by turning them no longer into a friend but a product that is bought and sold for sex. According to Equality Now about 18,000 people in the US and 20.9 million people worldwide adults and children are bought and sold due to sex trafficking. That means one out of forty-three people will be bought and sold into sex trafficking in the US alone and I do not want that one to be any of you. Slavery in any form makes me sick to think about. Sex trafficking is one that upsets me the most. The buying and selling of humans for a sexual and torturous purpose should without a doubt looked upon in a stricter light. Together we need to shed light on this dark topic and know the warning signs of a pimp and of a victim so we can stop something that to the subject seems impossible to stop.
You may be asking yourself, what is the real problem before the solution is stated? Sex trafficking is the selling of children and adults for money with them performing prostitution, pornography and sexual performance in return for drugs, shelter, food, money, or clothes. According to Safe Ventures in 2016, every 3 minutes a minor is sexual abused, 10-15 minors sold as sex slaves a day, 5.4 million reports of child exploitation in the US alone. According to the ILO it estimates human trafficking generates $150.2 billion in illegal profits every single year. What most people fail to notice is that sex trafficking is business that is strictly just profit which makes it that much more dangerous of an issue because there is no supply to buy. Traffickers use several tactics to lure their victims with using fear, intimidation, violence, and threats to make their slaves follow their commands. Sex trafficking is pure evil and we need to do something about so it does not happen to those who are possible victims.
We all need to be educated on this topic and know the warning signs of a pimp and of a victim so we can shed light on the issue. The warning signs of a pimp include, Jealousy and controlling, violent, significantly older than younger
Human trafficking has become one of many issues within the borders of the United States as well as other countries. It seems that quite a few people have come to terms with trafficking and other forms of prostitution to be socially acceptable within and outside the realms of their own country. Even though a lot of these individuals see the injustice when it comes to sex trafficking, there are policies and values that tend to take precedence over the morality of the issue. With over hundreds of thousands of men, women, and even young children being purchased and sold into slavery and hard labor without a care in the world for them. It becomes quite clear after seeing this that this topic needs to seriously be addressed and closely examined.
Imagine knowing that your parents set you up to be raped, just so they can make money. This violence leads to depression and even suicide, making the children feel extremely weak and empty. Weak law enforcement and poverty has driven sex slavery out of hand. A solution to end this violence begins with people who raise awareness. To raise awareness, it is important to meet with the federal and local government to inform them on the issues and convince them to combat sex trafficking. Come up with different fundraisers for battered victims, host awareness events so people become familiar with the issue, and eventually the victims can become educated and well equipped with the proper care they need. Consider working with different organizations that help women who have fallen victims of prostitution, pornography, trafficking and other forms of sexual violence. Work with a religious community that can help raise money for families in poverty. This can decrease the amount of women and children traded for sex. Internationally, we need to become more familiar with, knowledgeable of, and aggressive to end this suffering of dehumanization and advertise what the poor victims have to face on a daily
Sex trafficking is becoming more of a problem as time moves on. Sex trafficking is the recruitment, harbouring, transportation, provision, or obtaining of a person for the purpose of a commercial sex act, in which the commercial sex act is induced by force, fraud, or coercion [Internet Safety 101]. Sex trafficking is increasing due to the evolution of modern day social services and sources. From safety sources, it is the second fastest growing criminal industry, [Internet Safety 101]. Increasingly, sex trafficking is coming about due to the evolution of the internet and the improved ability of GPS tracking. On social media, many people find other people and try to be their friend, even if they don't know who they are. This provides opportunities for fake people to create more of a problem. The internet is providing different advertising places that can increase the effect of sex trafficking and lure in citizens to becoming victims. Sex trafficking has to come to an end for the safety of citizens, for the safety of their pride and dignity.
So what exactly is the problem? Well according to the US department of health and human services, human trafficking is second largest criminal industry making $12 billion per year off of a staggering 1.2 million child victims, all from the ages 5 to 17. Unlike other criminal industries children can be sold over and over again. The
Imagine for a moment you are a normal man or woman. You have lots of friends, a spouse who you love, maybe children and pets too. You have a new co-worker at your job. This person has invited you to come to a party in the less safe part of town, but you accept anyways because you want to become friends with this person. The next thing you remember is waking up in a strange place, surrounded by strange people, they tell you you are to do everything they say or your family and friends will die. You will now be forced to perform sex acts, or forced to work for little to no money, and you won't be allowed to see your family ever again, with no way out unless someone from one of many organizations rescues you. People who are trafficked are used in many ways and for many reasons. Human trafficking victims can go to one of the many organizations for help.
Currently, 501 children mostly African American and Latino are missing out of Washington, D.C. since the beginning of the year. The police have good reason to believe that this is due to sex trafficking. These kids were taken from their lives and are threatened even with the thought of leaving their trafficker. Some children have been able to escape, but this is very risky. A young, 13-year-old girl who has a mental illness was brought into sex trafficking because she believes that her trafficker loved her. She was sold for sex to around 40 men per day. Because of these reasons sex trafficking needs to become a thing of the past. Sex trafficking in the United States can be reduced and possibly eliminated through education, government intervention,
This is just a glimpse of one of many horrific stories that happens every single day right under our very nose within our cities and local communities. So many believe that human trafficking is just a third world problem. But the truth is, it is just as large here in the United States and in particular here in California. I am speaking to you today in hopes that you will not only recognize human trafficking as a crucial problem but to encourage you to take action against it and bring about awareness.
A. People who are trafficked for sex feel completely helpless, and the horror they have to go through is not fully acknowledge.
There is a global issue growing and it’s knocking on our own back door here in the United States. It’s a problem that affects millions of women, men, and children. This issue is the third largest global criminal enterprise. So what is the issue? The issue is modern day slavery, better known as human trafficking. Worldwide, there are over 20 million human trafficking victims, and of that 26% are children, and 55% are women and girls. In 2015 it was reported that 1 out of 5 endangered runaways reported to the National Center of Exploited and Missing Children were likely sex trafficking victims; furthermore, 74% of them were children in the care of social services and foster care when
When we heard slave we think of the past but now it is turning to a bad situations that involve children and adolescences in majority. Coming from Latin American and Caribbean through all the world. There are thousands of victims that are getting force into human trafficking. They are been sexual and labor exploitation. “Human trafficking, at its most basic level, is defined by the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000 as (a) the recruitment, harboring, transporting, supplying, or obtaining a person for labor or services through the use of force, fraud, or coercion for the purpose of involuntary servitude or slavery; or (b) sex trafficking in which a commercial sex act is induced by force, fraud, or coercion, or in which the person
Are you worth 90$? That is what the average modern slave costs globally. Would you want to be forced into prostitution as a young child? How would you feel if you were one of the twenty to thirty million people currently enslaved somewhere on earth? These statistics are all about human trafficking. As you can see this is a very serious issue that needs to be addressed. Not enough people know about human trafficking and how to prevent it. So this is why I have decided to tell you about it.
Public problems come in all shapes and sizes. A public problem can be as minor as pot holes in the street to as major as human trafficking and everything in between. In what is known as modern slavery, the domestic problem of child sex trafficking in the United States affects 100,000 American children every year. (Tichen, 2014) The problem of child sex trafficking is something that I am very interested in helping to tackle. Recently I had the opportunity to speak with a representative from a local shelter that assists children that have been removed from a sex trafficking situation. This conversation was very eye opening and made me realize how truly huge this problem is. The funding for local non-profit organizations is not optimal and
One major factor of being kidnapped and forced in the sex slave industry is being young because the younger you are the more you make a profit to your pimp, “The next thing I know at 12 was I was in the streets of prostitution because I had been snatched off the street.” (Greenlee). A pimp is a person who solicits a human for sex through prostitution, and keeps all the money earned by the victim. Pimps do not view these women as humans, they are viewed as an item of possession. The victim is then kept against his or her own will and is forced to work for the person who owns them. A sex slave normally works for their
In attempting to combat trafficking there are several things that must be remembered according to David Feingold. (1) increasing restrictions on borders will not stop trafficking. In fact, it has been found to increase trafficking. (2) Trafficking is not controlled by organized crime even though it is controlled by gangs and syndicates. This is because in many cases slaves are obtained through the promise of a better life, rather than being kidnapped. Once a person is removed from their family the “owner” reveals to them the truth of their situation. In situations where criminal organizations are involved, they often have no say in where the slaves end up. (3) Legalizing prostitution may help to end human trafficking if it is done correctly. While it the United States it is believed that the legalization of prostitution will bring about an increase in trafficking victims, especially those who are intended to be sold into sexual slavery. However, as Feingold contends this argument makes little sense as prostitution is legal in Las Vegas, at least in certain brothels. Therefore, if legalizing prostitution causes an increase in sex trafficking, then it should be evident in the number of foreign sex workers in Vega. Other countries in which prostitution is legal such as Australia, Germany and the Netherlands have very low numbers of people being trafficked to their countries. (4) it is unlikely that prosecuting traffickers is going to stop trafficking. (5) neither will sanctions
You walk into a diner and find a booth to sit at. You look across of you and see a young girl surrounded by men much older than her. You think they are her Uncles; as you finish your meal, you get up to leave and go to pass her table. As you pass, something catches your eye; she's watching you pass by and glances at her napkin and you see it “HELP ME!!” . You then realized something is wrong and go outside and called the police. When the police shows up and sees the girl he calls for backup; his backup team shows up and enter the diner and approach the table. They only thing you can hear is glass breaking, chairs being thrown, and her screams. And all you can do is break down. Soon, came out the police officer with the 4 men. One of the police officers comes up to you and says, “ We have been looking for this young girl for 6 months, she was kidnapped and was involved in the sex trafficking world; you saved her.” As you look up you see the young girl walking towards you, she comes up to you and she hugs you and said “ Thank you, you saved me from that horrible world.” Only if this was true. Many people don’t notice the signs of distress because they are uneducated and caught up in there own world. This is why sex trafficking should be a more public and school topic because people are oblivious that it’s around them and the ones who are; are scared for their kids to play outside in there yard.
