Costa Rica is one of the top destinations for college kids around the world but people might not think this is the safest destination after finishing this travel article. Costa Rica may trick people with the diverse flora and fauna, beautiful beaches, and biodiverse rainforest but there is a lot more going on behind the scenes. Most recently Costa Rica has been targeted to traffic drugs, sex trafficking has become the income source of several towns, there are cases of crime targeted at tourists and due to all of this, the country’s crime rate is increasing at a fast and dangerous rate

Throughout the Latin American region there are several commonalities in the ways that people are sex trafficked and they are similar to what is seen as elsewhere as well. Some of the primary causes of sex trafficking in the Dominican Republic include deception, the false promise of employment, family-control, and marriage fraud. The Dominican Republic is a special case in the Caribbean as not only does it have traffic routes to other countries within the region but also to regions beyond where neighboring countries traffic to. Trafficking out of the Dominican Republic can land women in Aruba or Curacao, Argentina, and as far as Germany, Italy and The Netherlands. Due to the extent of travel for many victims coming out of the Dominican Republic, the number of child victims is significantly lower than other countries in the region.
Costa Rica does not seem to be a prime target for terrorism. There is virtually no connection with the violence going on in the Middle East or with Islamic extremism. In contrast to many Central and South American countries, there is little to no clear violent opposition to the country’s national government. There is, however, increasing violence in relation to the drug trafficking trade. Every few weeks someone is found executed; however, this is generally limited to
Human trafficking is a serious issue that occurs all over the world. The areas being focused on here is Haiti and the Dominican Republic, but countries are situated in the Caribbean and share a border. Sharing a border makes trafficking between the two countries easier for those trafficking individuals. In the Dominican Republic, the issues are bigger than just infrastructure and the problem of trafficking over all cannot hope to be fixed without fixing the underlaying issues. According to Guinn when looking at the issues in the DR you have to look more at the policies, politicians and advocates involved in them than the infrastructure. Though Guinn doesn’t just seek to go over the politics within the Dominican Republic but also the policies
Sex trafficking is a global problem that involves the exploitation and abuse of girls as well as women. This paper will discuss the problem, with an emphasis on the views expressed by Paola Monzini in her book Sex Traffic: Prostitution, Crime and Exploitation. The paper will look at the causes, consequences and prevalence rates of sex trafficking and will consider the impact of such factors as globalization and women’s poverty in perpetuating the problem or making it worse. The paper will conclude with a discussion of the ways in which a human rights perspective might translate into positive action to eliminate the trafficking of girls and women.
In regards to their essay on sex trafficking and child prostitution, Kristof and WuDunn note their successful and failed efforts to help these women. Each time they interviewed a woman, they “bought” her from the brothel owner and aimed to set her up for economic success outside of forced prostitution. However, one girl quickly and willingly returned to the brothel due to her drug dependence (where she obtained the addiction from being forced to take drugs in order oblige her customers). Kristof and WuDunn indicated, that in order to effectively help women, advocates need to focus on prevention, through education, empowerment to give women a voice, and putting brothels out of business. Prajwala’s model is effective for those already in the
One evening your 11 year old daughter disappears. You have tries everything possible to get her back home, but what you do not know is that she is already a victim of sex trafficking. She was on her way home when a Man seduced her; he told her that she will have a better life and she will be desired by everyone. So she went with him and from there on she was a slave to every man who desired her. In one point of her life she will believe that the only significance her life has is to make man satisfied. The story of how she got there was faded away a long time ago. That’s a truth that many Dominican Girls face. The organization IJM knows the truth of how many women’s are victims of sex trafficking. Sex trafficking is a world a wide problem which has harmed many young women’s in the Dominican Republic now only IJM can save those last soles.
When some people hear the expression “child sex trafficking” inevitably unspeakable thoughts come to mind, others are unaware this is even happening. Sex trafficking is a serious criminal issue taking place within the borders of the United States, but on the outside of these boarders this crime stands as a reliable source of income for those who participate. Although child sex trafficking is a local crime it is obvious that multiple nations have different viewpoints on the topic. The problem at hand is meeting in the middle where this situation can exist without creating a riot with residents and eliminating the destruction of young children’s lives. Though this topic is a sensitive one, there are ways to allow it to coexist in everyday
Human trafficking is modern-day slavery and it involves the use of force, fraud, or coercion to obtain some type of labor or commercial sex act. Every year, millions of men, women, and children are trafficked in countries around the world, including the United States. (Blue Campaign Homeland Security, 2017) People in the sex trafficking business tend to make billions of dollars every year along with drug traffickers. With this cybercrime growing what tools are there to stop it? There has said to be many cybercrime tools that have been trying to stop this trend such as INTERPOL but has it been really doing job?
In the world there are many places people think of as dream locations to live. The South American country Costa Rica is considered a dream location because of their lush rainforests and ecosystems that leave tourists in awe, the country having the highest economy in any central america and their steady peaceful governing system. However all nations have their own downfalls in their country even though there appearances seem only well and a beautiful place to live. What outsiders don't see in the Costa Rica may be the high unemployment rates and lack of authority about human rights for Women and young girls.
Human trafficking is definitely a serious issue for any person and state to be affected with in their community. It is important for the several governors to bring their attention on the issue of human trafficking, even if they are or are not working together. Human trafficking bring their people and society to some form of danger when trying to live their lives, maintain their safety, attend events, and other activities that are of interest. When bring awareness on the issue of human trafficking that should be an ongoing plan of action. So much can be done when it comes to bring awareness, by others, just as the same way advocates can bring awareness about human trafficking. The awareness should not only be informed when there is some major
Sex trafficking is the exploitation of women and children, within national or across international borders, for the purposes of forced sex work. Modern day trafficking is a type of slavery that involves the transport or trade of people for the purpose of work.Human trafficking impacts people of all backgrounds, and people are trafficked for a variety of purposes. Men are often trafficked into hard labor jobs, while children are trafficked into labor positions in textile, agriculture and fishing industries. Women and girls are typically trafficked into the commercial sex industry, i.e. prostitution or other forms of sexual exploitation (Facts on Human Trafficking).
In order to decrease the demand for sex trafficking, knowledge of the sources that create it and the factors that perpetuate it is critical. Regardless, if this knowledge is not implemented into interventions that heal the damage sex trafficking creates or, better yet, prevents it from occurring in the first place, it is essentially useless. Opinions on how to stop sex trafficking in general are varied, and suggested solutions on how to stop the demand are no exception. One approach that has been discussed is education and public outreach. One thing that was made apparent throughout the semester in this class was that sex trafficking is a little-understood topic, and interest in it is still gathering. As a result, not only is the current information on sex trafficking insufficient, but the general public understands very little about it. Some people are not even aware it exists. This allows the issue to perpetuate because men purchase services from prostitutes under the assumption they are willingly choosing that profession. Hollywood glamorizes prostitution through movies such as Pretty Woman, and while most people understand prostitution is not someone 's first career choice, the idea that someone could be forced into doing it usually does not cross the mind of customers.
Prostitution is said to be the oldest profession in the world. For centuries, prostitution has crossed country, ethnic, and economical lines. Sex trafficking is filled with a combination of those who willingly participate and with sex slaves. Like various countries, for years Nepal has been known for being home to a number of women in the sex trafficking business, and majority of Nepali prostitutes work in Indian brothels. In Nepal, sex trafficking helps to financially aid women; however, it increases the number of those with HIV, other sexually transmitted infections, and mental illnesses. Conversely, there are anti-trafficking movements set in place in an effort to minimize the industry.
Sometimes, the traffickers do not go looking for the girls, the girls are brought to them. In many cases, especially those of people who live in poverty, it's not rare for girls to be sold to traffickers. A quote from the article, Sex Trafficking of Women and Girls mentions this briefly; “many women are sold into the sex trade by parents, husbands, and significant others…”(Deshpande and Nour, 2013, Sex Trafficking of Women and Girls). At times, these families are tricked into believing that the traffickers will provide handsomely for their daughters and give her a better life than they could ever be able to offer her. In places like Thailand, selling daughters has been a common practice for eons; “for hundreds of years, many people in the north, struggling for life have been forced to view their own children as commodities. A failed harvest, the death of a key breadwinner, or any serious debt..might lead to the sale of a daughter (never a son) as a slave or servant”(Ehrenreich & Hochschild, 2002, p.210). Some parents feel what money they can get from their daughters is desirable because of what that money can buy; “a recent survey in the northern provinces found that if the families who sold their daughters, two thirds could afford not to do so but ‘instead preferred to buy color televisions and video equipment”(Ehrenreich & Hochschild, 2002, p.210). Selling their daughters was done as a pure necessary measure in their opinion, as they felt they could not make the same
