Biographical sketch
Darrell Case is the author of Live Life to the Fullest, Out of Darkness and Never Ending Spring. He and his wife Connie are founders of Souls for Christ jail and prison ministry. For over 30 years, they have ministered to those incarcerated. They live in central Indiana on the farm Darrell’s mother and father purchased in 1948.
Story synopsis
Content with his life as pastor of a small church in Apple Valley Arkansas Adam Wakefield isn’t seeking a change. Adam believes he will live and die in the small cabin he shares with his mother. However Cooper’s confession clears Adam and puts the blame on O’Mally. Learning he is near death, Victoria braves a blizzard to rush to Adam’s side. She keeps a vidal speaking to him. Nearing heaven he hears her voice, and returns to his body. He begins the long road to recovery. While at his bedside Victoria realizes her deep love for Adam. Paralyzed from the waist down Adam feels he is unworthily of her love. Through the intervention of a Christian orderly he recognizes mistake. He asks her to marry him.Victoria answer is immediate and joyous. Yes she will become Mrs. Adam Wakefield.
Upon his return to the church Adam is welcomed as a hero. Disguised as a hobo O’Malley again tries to kill Adam. Confided to a wheelchair Adam confronts the murderer. As Sean pulls the trigger, Elijah jumps in front of Adam. The old black janitor gives his life for his beloved pastor.
The face of Market Street is changing. The church is gaining the reputation of a loving, caring place of worship. Adam has made a promise to Victoria. He will walk down the aisle at their wedding. With James and Conway’s help, Adam fulfills a promise that promise.
In the epilog the Hayman’s make a surprise visit to the parsonage. They inform Victoria of changes in Pottsville. Anderson and Maples were arrested and are now serving to in prison. In a quest for a sense of belonging and success in life as well as a need for survival and money from a steady job, Richard attempts to conform to the social rules of those around him and the expectations of how he must behave like a second-class citizen. To feel like a part of the community and to please his family in hopes of improving his home life, Richard begins to attend a Protestant church. He consents to become a member of the church and is baptized, but he does so to please his mother and because his need for association and acceptance with a group is immense. After the church service that night, Richard reflects, “I had not felt anything except a sullen anger and a crushing sense of shame. Adam tells Charles that they could go travel but hears Cathy covered in blood and dirt. They decide to take her in and clean her up. They call a docter and find out she is badly injured. Adam decides to take care of her and the doctor decides to tell the sherif abou the girl. Adam wrorries Adam helps Charles remove the rocks from the farm that the sherif is borthering Cathy iwth questions Cathy states that she cants remember her name and that t she has her thoughts mixed upl Cathy doesn't want the sherrif to know she set the fire and becomes scared. Adam cooked for cathy but Charles does not trust Cathy. He doesn't like how foreign she looks. He tells Cathy she has been talking in her sleep and he believes she is evil. He noticed Cathy’s nervouness and tells her that if she does not leave he will tell the sheriff. Cathy feares Charles but tells Adam that she is afriad that he lied about loosing her memory. Morrison are supposed to come home on a scheduled time from Vicksburg, but they don’t arrive on that time. Then everyone gets very worried and start panicking as if they could tell something bad was going to happen to the three of them. Then later in the night, the three of them come home, but Papa returns with a broken leg. Mr. Morrison explains that a wagon has rolled over it, but not everyone believes so. Then Cassie manages to talk Stacey out from explaining the whole incident. It started when they were coming home from Vicksburg and the two wheels on the wagon came off, then when Papa wanted to fix the first wheel, someone shot him on the left leg, and the wagon rolled over it, then the three men went to attack Mr. Morrison, but Mr. Morrison vigorously throws one of the three men on the ground, and breaks another man’s arm, injuring them both. Then the third man pulls them onto the truck and leaves. Leaving Papa, Stacey and Mr. Morrison finish fixing the wagon and head home. Now Papa is hurt, the only thing Cassie and her brothers can do are just to wait till next morning, and hope Papa’s leg will recover
