On July 27, 1981 Adam Walsh was in the toy department of Sears playing video games while his mom shopped in the store. This was quite common in the late seventies and early eighties when a trusting generation let their kids run wild and free. On this particular day a monster watched and waited close by for the perfect opportunity to strike. The opportunity presented itself, a small young boy, all alone. He snatched him and fled. This is every parent's worst nightmare and a horror story that griped the nation. In a matter of seconds, a child was gone and would never be seen alive again.

It did not take long for the two to make change, 4 days after their sons funeral they in 1984, helped pass the Missing Children's Act of 1982 and the Missing Children's Assistance Act of 1984. The latter bill founded the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which maintains a toll-free hotline number (1-800-THE-LOST) to report a missing child or the sighting of one(John Walsh). The Walsh's have helped get lost children back to their homes even though they will never get Adam back; for John Walsh making America a better place didn't stop there. After Adam was murdered John Walsh decided to take his grief out by staring as the host of America's Most Wanted in 1988. One of the five longest running prime-time series on network television, the show has helped capture over a thousand criminals, including 15 from the FBI's most wanted list and the notorious convicts known as the "Texas 7." (John Walsh).
It is truly amazing to see how something that happened that was so awful that ended up having such a positive change for protecting children. The way that John and Reve Walsh responded to the tragedy was unique and special. They used their unspeakable loss to protect other children.
