INTRODUCTION
It is necessary for individuals to view themselves from the outside in occasionally in order to gain a different perspective and improve their self-evaluation ability. Furthermore, continual self-assessments enable leaders to understand their strengths and weaknesses so that they may improve on their leadership success (Banutu-Gomez and Rohrer 2011).

From the results, I learnt that I do not have a strong preference for any particular organisational structure or culture. This was not a surprise to me as I discovered from my experience in multiple corporations that most combinations of organisational structure and culture can be successful given effective leadership. However, I did notice a similar trait in all the effective leaders that I have worked with. They all possess excellent interpersonal skills that enable them to understand their followers’ sources of motivation to work. From a cultural perspective, I believe that this is my biggest challenge to assimilate which is why this concept became my chosen area of research.
OVERVIEW OF LITERATURE

I chose to interview Regina Geis, who holds the administrative role as acting supervisor for the County Mental Health adult day program, which provides services for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Ms. Geis has held this position for 15 months. This is her first managerial position within a human service agency. Her style of management has changed over this short period of time. She feels that she is now more direct with her direction with staff. She stated, “Maybe now I come across as a little bit cold. But I have learned that I now have to use the least amount of words to get my point across.”

Managers make many decisions every day. Thankfully there are many tools available to a manager as they make these decisions. Tiffany is a General Manager of a franchise in the quick service restaurant industry. She is faced with decisions dozens of times in one day. A large portion of the decisions that she is faced with are made to solve structured problems, however, sometimes an unstructured problem does arise that she needs to address. An effective leader needs to be genuine and true to the values he holds. If the leader is not honest with those he interacts with, they will not trust him for long. Being clear about values allows the leader to help establish a solid setting for the community to build upon. Strong leaders demonstrate the following values: being trustworthy, caring, focused, flexible, direct, knowledgeable, and approachable. By having a foundation that focuses on the importance of education an instructional leader can focus on clarity and purpose. Before this class, I had a very primitive and vague definition of leadership. Not only did I define it as per my views and ideologies, but I also said that each individual has their own definition of leadership. My initial belief was that leadership does not have a clear cut definition, but there were well defined leadership traits which made an individual. I also initially believed that personal traits did not translate into leadership traits with no strong correlation. After going through the various modules this class offered, it is safe to say that I have significantly redefined leadership and underwent a strong personal assessment.
