Standing in the english classroom, I realized that my phone was nowhere to be found. As I searched through my belongings, I began to feel a sense of despair and disbelief. I wondered if I could have left my phone in another class; the bathroom; at lunch; or even worse, if someone had stolen it. After investigating each area, I still could not find my phone. Suddenly, I realized that the school might have security cameras that may locate the phone. However, I was shocked to learn that the school did not have such surveillance cameras. The use of security cameras may have helped avoid this situation. In regards to public safety and welfare, security cameras provide an effective way to oversee individuals and their actions. Schools should continue their surveillance practices to maintain safety and ensure justice for crimes or other offences.
Security cameras are beneficial because the safety of students will be increased. Fights and stealing can be caught on camera and then the people involved can receive consequences for their actions. For example, if my chromebook is stolen in school, the security cameras can be checked. The cameras will show who took the stolen item, and they will receive necessary consequences. As a result, people would have less items stolen from them. Individuals that were involved in fights can also be caught. Administrators will not be relying on the stories of the ones involved, but on reliable cameras. Therefore, overall, the security
I think body cameras on police officers are worth the expense. Abby Phillips from the Washington Post says “At the 1 year memorial for Michael Brown,Tyrone Harris was supposedly armed with a 9mm Sig Sauer that was reported stolen last year so the cops opened fire on him and he is now in critical condition. His family and friends denied that he was armed.” (Phillips 1) We should have body cameras on police officers because it would show evidence of what actually happened at this crime scene and many others that are still being questioned. The cameras would basically show if there is any foul play from the cop and or if it was the actual suspects fault. Having the camera’s would end all of the questioning in police cases
How great it is to be able to call two very distinct countries your “home.” But how exhausting it is to have to constantly prove that you are like the rest of the people who live in the United States. For Delia, her immigration status was a constant reminder of why she could not consider herself American, even though she was raised in the United States.
To promote a healthy learning environment that potentially increases school funding, the first recommendation for schools is to remove all metal detectors on school campus. Having excessive forms of security measures can only be counter-productive to the results that schools want to see. The purpose of school institutions is to promote a learning environment, not an environment where it has become an evolved form of the prison system. Removing metal detectors in its entirety would allow schools to allocate the existing funds to support school administrators or counselors. The use of metal detectors are not only excessive, but perpetuates the image of the prison industrial
In today’s society no one is safe from everyday peril. Situations arise daily that may present either a law enforcement official or civilian that could warrant the need for extra protection. In some cases it is a matter of he said, she said. For those faced with such situations, documentation that could be provided by body cameras worn by police officials could be of great use. Body cameras have been tested in a small group of police departments and have provided an overwhelming positive effect. Police officers wearing body cameras not only provide the officers with extra peace o mind but give civilians documentation to back up their sides of the story. Not everyone is in favor of police
The presence of body cameras make the community that they are in a safer and better place. Body cams can make
It cannot be disputed that schools often have to place the privacy of one student, below the overall need to secure the safety of a student body as a whole. If students know that their belongings can be searched, it will discourage them from committing illegal activities at school.
These companies have found a niche market. The need for cell phones should have been something our forefathers forecasted. The ability to stay connected should have been noted as an inalienable right. But instead of being allowed the same rights as those with higher socioeconomic status, kids attending “scan schools” have to pay a fee that they may or may not be able to afford for (Prose 30). While some may argue that the need for storage of cell phones and the service provided by these private companies has all the making of capitalism, the reality is that these companies have been taking advantage of a situation. Cell phones have become more than luxury item and for many a basic necessity for life. Prose notes that in more affluent areas bans against cell phones exist but as long as students “aren’t caught” authorities at these institutions of learning have been known to turn a blind eye. The private companies supply a service to meet a demand to a tune of $4.2 million a year (Prose 31). Prose writes, “Most of this from poor kids, and in a city that is slashing its school budget,” (31). When one sees such statements, how can he or she not think of these companies as predatory instead of just business savvy? According to Prose, the disallowance of cell phones in schools does not keep the violence from happening because if a will to bring weapons into the school exists then it will happen
In today's school system, there have been uproars about the student's privacy and safety at the schoolhouse. Some parents feel that their child's safety is more important because of the rules that the school has set forth to maintain a safe environment. Others feel that their child's privacy should be taken seriously because they should be treated more like an adult. In recent news, there has been concerns about the student's safety that cause some to get injured or killed; while, student's privacy has cause the police to get involved. The school system should be concerned as well as, aware about the student’s privacy and safety at their prospective school.
A career in front of the camera is the dream job for numerous Americas. Little do they know they may have already been on camera. Every day people in the United States of America are caught in the lens of law enforcement cameras. These cameras sound nefarious due to their constant watching of people. However, law enforcement cameras are anything but nefarious as their intent is to stop actions that may rightly be deemed nefarious. The cameras the law enforcement use may be on the street, a member of the law enforcement, a police car or a traffic light. With all the cameras, their purpose is for the good of the people and to enforce laws. However, there is controversy surrounding the usage of the law enforcement cameras due to how some people
Besides the famous F. Scott. Fitzgerald, another author had marked a wonderful contribution to society around the same time period. Focusing mainly on young children, Alan Alexander Milne, or A. A. Milne, published his work in 1926 known as the Winnie-the-Pooh. This famous fictional work beloved by both children and adults consisted of the adorable stories between a cute bear who loves honey and his fellow friends. Inspired by the toy bear and other stuffed animals given to his son Christopher Robin on his first birthday, A.A. Milne, who was already known for being a novelist, mystery writer, playwright, poet, and essayist, had his works published first in England by Methuen and later by Dutton in the United States, with the illustrations
Possibly the technological feature creating the most controversy is surveillance cameras. What is seemingly there for public safety could also inhibit safety by exposing the public’s private life. Every move made under the hawk-like vision of the camera is observed and judged by someone sitting behind the scenes. Women risk being stalked by sexual predators, and assailants have been known to memorize the schedule of a subject in order to time the perfect attack (Stead). “Bad cops” may gain insight to a personal life that allows for the watcher to blackmail the victim. In recent studies it has been proven that an increase in surveillance cameras does not decrease the crime rate; it
Picture this, there has been a school lockdown, the suspect cut the landlines so no one could call the police for a rescue. However, the suspect was captured by the police much faster than he imagined. The last scene wouldn’t have happened if it was one decade ago, because cell phones were not popular in schools then. When it comes to cell phones, some people think they should not be permitted in schools, and other people think they should be permitted in schools. I agree with the latter opinion for the following reasons: Cell phones are an efficient way to communicate when emergencies occur in school; cell phones can be a great tool for learning during school hours; and the current prohibitive rules on cell phones are merely fruitless
The increase of school shootings and threats has encouraged parents to allow their children to carry cell phones to school. Cell phones have successfully been
The United Nation’s main objective is to maintain global peace and justice throughout its organization. But how does one successfully achieve their goal, and then go forth with it? How will the citizens respond to their leaders’ actions? If citizens don’t like how their leaders are putting forth their authority, it could result in a rebellion. But soon, one will ascertain what comes around goes around. In the novel Animal Farm, George Orwell wants us to understand the dangers of being a naive citizen can mean initially wanting freedom and equality, but will soon recognize everything has come full circle, with intensifying oppression.
Our society would not survive in the 21st century without the help of electronic surveillance. Safety is one of the main purposes of electronic surveillance. Safety is the state of being secure and free from danger of any sort. Today, many would rather give up their privacy for safety (Smithsimon). In fact, surveillance gadgets such as cameras, radio tracking chips and house alarms are used in many places to ensure safety. For instance, a parent can easily place a hidden camera in a stuffed animal in order to see how the babysitter handles his or her child (Public Places Have Eyes). Cameras are also used to ensure safety on school premises. According to the GCC College Safety website, "the college has an extensive system of surveillance
