In the movie “A Beautiful Mind” directed by Ronald William Howard, characterizes the story of John Nash, a brilliant mathematician, who suffers from paranoid schizophrenia. The movie is based of the true life story of John Forbes Nash, portrayed in the movie by Russell Crowe. John is a college student attending Princeton University and early in his career he made an astonishing discovery and which became internationally renowned. This lead to him winning the Nobel Prize during his late years. The movie depicts John as an awkward and socially-inept student, who spent a lot of time to discover a revolutionary equation in mathematics. During that time, he also started showing symptoms of schizophrenia. Schizophrenia has been defined as a “split-mind”, in which people interpret reality abnormally. It then can result in hallucinations, disorders, delusions and extremely disordered behavior and thinking. These symptoms can all be seen in Russell Crowe’s portrayal of John Nash. It is noticed in the movie that John Nash, unlike majority of men who have schizophrenia he started showing symptoms in his thirties. The first instance was when he was still attending college and he started having auditory and visual hallucinations as he created his roommate, Charles Herman.
