Nursing is a lifelong learning experience and a challenging profession. My inspiration for becoming a nurse comes from an innate desire to help and care for people in their times of need. My experiences during my undergraduate years have helped me to become a qualified applicant for the Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science of University of San Diego.
My parents are my biggest motivation. Seeing my parents work hard despite their health status has made me determined to make them proud. I want to become a nurse to not only help my parents, but also to make a difference in the lives of those who cannot afford health care. I am currently majoring in Health Science at California State University, Sacramento. My interest in the health care field blossomed when I took several health education classes. Although my bachelor’s degree is in another discipline, I have

What captivates me about this program are the mission and the core values of leadership development, interprofessional and interdisciplinary education, and cultural inclusiveness. I admire the program for nurturing many graduate students who come from a variety of professional disciplines. If granted admission, I would strive to further my education in clinical, in leadership, and in research to improve the health care experience for the underinsured and underrepresented populations in our society. I believe that by pursuing a graduate degree in the role of Clinical Nurse Leader, I can help change the culture of health care by influencing the policies of our health care systems and how medical professionals interpret those policies. I have an unwavering passion, a commitment to excellence, and a desire to grow academically and professionally in a spirited and diverse
Becoming a nurse means to truly understand, embrace, and acquire the characteristics of an educator, an advocate, a comforter, a therapist, a listener and most importantly a care giver. My goal as an undergraduate nurse is to acquire these characteristics and master them so that I can care for any patient regardless
The nursing profession was designed to focus on individual care, their families and the communities they serve to ensure accessibility to optimal health. Nurses are not limited to a specific practice. They work in a variety of settings and serve countless roles in the hospital community. They are a support system when bad news is relayed but they are also birthday party hosts for ailing children. Being a nursing student will not only challenges my intellect but also my character.
My mom is a nurse for Hospice at the University of Kansas Hospital and her main department is Hospice. Hospice is where people come when they have 6 or less months to live before they pass away. It is for people who are dying and you can either stay in the hospital or you can stay in your own home. Why does she do this you may ask well because she loves to take care of, save, and comfort others. But being and becoming a nurse isn’t easy because it take 4 years of nursing school. So then after all the hard work she became a nurse she hasn’t stopped because she has been one for 33 years.
Nursing is an excellent career choice, where an individual acquires great gratitude while attending to others necessities. If someone is constantly trying to improve themselves and wanting to be challenged in life, “as nurses, we face tremendous challenges and often see and do things that are extraordinary” (Ulrich xix). By becoming a registered nurse the individual will make a difference. Nursing allows an individual to continuously be benefiting a fellow human being, not only with the patient but with their families as well, having the opportunity to becoming someone especial in the patient’s life. Nursing is a
“Every nurse was drawn to nursing because of a desire to care, to serve, or to help” (Feist-Heilmeier). Nursing is a job that is pursued purely based off of a person’s intention to help others. Nursing comes with many pros, cons, and hands on education that can be very time consuming and intense.
Paul Harris said that “Personality has power to uplift, power to depress, power to curse, and power to bless.” Your personality carries with you when you travel. It is your traits and characteristics and to satisfy your personality that you must find the right job that fits. I have the ability to delight others and make them lighten up and enjoy the world and in turn that has a positive outcome on me. Because of my optimistic, witty, and warm personality, I have chosen to pursue a career in the field of nursing where I will be assisting and helping as many patients as I can, pushing myself to my full potential while conquering challenges and making the world a better place.
Many kids grow up wanting to be doctors, lawyers, or astronauts. I was one of those many who wanted to be a doctor and save lives every time I walked into the hospital. Having this mindset throughout my childhood, and even a semester in college, I soon learned in college that maybe the traditional MD doctor route was not for me. The realization that I would have to stay in school for close to, or more than, 8 consecutive years before I could make money, provide for myself, or help others, medically, worried me. I was never truly thinking about my future until college and that is why I was worried, I had no clue if I could even make it 8+ years, financially or mentally. So, my thoughts quickly transitioned to nursing because I would be able to get out of school with a BSN and start working. Then, I can
I have always had compassion for others and have wanted to help when I can. When my mother and other family members have been in the hospital I have seen first hand the impact that a nurse can have on a patient’s day. This inspires me to pursue a career where I have the opportunity to have an impact on someone’s life daily. I plan to go to UNL for my undergraduate studies and then continue on at UNMC for my degree in nursing. This spring I am planning on getting my CNA and start building my job experience in this field. Ultimately, I would like to continue my education to become a Physician’s Assistant or a Nurse Practitioner. My travels around the U.S., Mexico, and Europe have created a desire to continue traveling and to experience different cultures, specifically to study abroad and further my education in Spanish. In the future, after I become a nurse, I have thought about going over sees to third-world counties, such as Africa, to help them get proper medical
Nursing was not my first choice of occupation; growing up on a rural farm I have always envisioned myself working with animals. In high school, I attended post-secondary and this is when I feel I found my place in the medical field. My best friend encouraged me to take an emergency medical technician class with her and I excelled. Following this I began working in the hospital setting as a technician. The interaction with patients made my days enjoyable and I looked forward to going to work. I observed how the nurses would comfort patients and endow them with a sense of wellbeing by simply being and being present; this made me want to provide this kind care.
Nursing, what is nursing? How can I begin to describe such a complex, diverse, and unique substance. Nursing is a vast world of its own. From teaching, counseling, consoling, and coaching nurses personify an infinite number of characters. Through my experiences, I have learned that it takes much more than merely the ability to provide care to patients. My philosophy as a nurse: to not only provide aide, but to comfort, motivate, and teach others the knowledge I have learned. Educating patients is essential, and something I value dearly. I believe patients long to feel at ease and feel safe, especially in such an unfamiliar environment. I believe that all patients should be cared for regardless of their condition
The nursing profession is dynamic and filled with opportunity. People have different reasons and motivations for seeking the nursing career out but the main reasons are the need to help others, to advocate for those who need a strong voice, and to care for the sick, aging and dying.
Caring for others has always been a passion of mine, and becoming a nurse has always been my dream. While my dream has turned reality, I can say that nursing has blessed me with the opportunity to not only be a servant to those in my community, but it has also allowed me to be of some comfort to patients and their loved ones during their darkest and most vulnerable moments. Nursing offers a variety of opportunities, where the only restrictions are the ones we set for ourselves. As for myself, all things are possible, for if I want it, I strongly believe it’s already mine. The depths that I will go to reach the latitude of success that I so desire is boundless.
“Follow your dreams”, these words have been said by my greatest support, my parents and I plan to do that. I have chosen to be a registered nurse as a career because I am driven by the idea of helping people in need. My interest in medicine dates back to my years in secondary school, where I excelled in anatomy, chemistry, and maths. In my sophomore year of high school, I took a health and wellness class and instantly fell in love with the idea of pursuing a career in medicine. As a result, I continued to study health and wellness throughout my high school career.
In today’s society, the medical field is constantly thriving with technological improvements and the growth of educated individuals that contribute to the well-being of others. Nurses make up the largest majority of the industry, and with that, nursing is the fastest growing occupation. Nursing is a job that allows people to not only take care of the sick but also to experience, learn, and further their interests of the human body.
The research question, “How do reproductive-aged female patients, who have been diagnosed with cancer, perceive fertility preservation and self-actualization during their cancer survivorship surveillance phase?” is discussed within the above research summary table. CINAHL Complete and ProQuest research databases were used to find the four appropriate peer-reviewed academic journals analyzed in the research summary table. A useful tool to find research studies from academic journals can be found on the Northwest Arkansas Community College (NWACC) library website. Once accessed, the search engine has filters that enables the user to add advanced limitations to the results such as the publication date, source types, language, gender, and many
