Have you ever been hospitalized? Have you given much thought to the individual that is always there attending to your every need? If your answer is “yes,” you are one of the few individuals that have taken into consideration this important faculty member. Yes, I’m referring to your registered nurse, the individual you see the majority of your stay while in the hospital. Your registered nurse that is a push of a button away, the individual that in reality never receives much acknowledgement. However, he or she is always there with a smile on her or his face, prepared to help at a moment’s notice. Before one chooses a career in nursing, it is always important to know that even though nursing is not for everyone, nursing is one of the most honorable and satisfying professions an individual can pursue. Additionally it gives individuals rewarding financial benefits. Nursing is an excellent career choice, where an individual acquires great gratitude while attending to others necessities. If someone is constantly trying to improve themselves and wanting to be challenged in life, “as nurses, we face tremendous challenges and often see and do things that are extraordinary” (Ulrich xix). By becoming a registered nurse the individual will make a difference. Nursing allows an individual to continuously be benefiting a fellow human being, not only with the patient but with their families as well, having the opportunity to becoming someone especial in the patient’s life. Nurses provide exceptional service with the goal to restore the patients back to full health as soon as possible. Their job ranges from routine, to caring for people with life threatening conditions. The nursing profession gives back to the community and individuals. Nurses today provide care with the use of knowledge and skills that they have learned and also deal with patients overall as a person. A registered nurse must keep detailed records and reports on patients’ progress as well as administer medications. They must be alert and focused on subtle changes in each patient. They must also be able to verbally communicate effectively. A registered nurse has to be able to, sometimes, perform two jobs at once as well as interact with the patients and look at their reactions.
Imagine if you were tragically hurt. What if you or a loved one was rather ill? What would life be like if this happened to you and there was no one to take care of you, or to find out what was wrong? Becoming a Registered Nurse is quite a high honor. This shows that you can make a commitment to find out what is wrong with the patient you are working with. Becoming a Registered Nurse can start off to be stressful, but there are great rewards and experiences that you can take and remember forever.
Objectives of a nursing occupation includes; providing care to patients, following doctor’s orders, distributing medications, creating care plans, and helping patients meet health oriented goals (American Nurses Association, 2015). Nursing can be very rewarding and gratifying, Nancy Thompson an oncology nurse stated “When we work together as a team—advocating for patients, providing supportive care, and caring for the whole person—we can change people’s lives and improve the health of our patients, our community, and our world” (Thompson, 2013). Making a difference in an individuals’ life is why I decided to be a nurse. However to achieve this goal education is required. A helpful benefit about the nursing field is that a college student can start by getting a License Practical Nurse certification and climb up the ladder to further gain licenses and exposure
The career of nursing has been an aspiration since childhood. No one had to ask the question, “What would you like to be when you grow up?” in order to help me to decide which career or even educational to take in order for my aspiration to become reality. It was evident that nursing would be the career for me, looking back on one occasion as a child; after applying an entire jar of Vaseline onto my younger brother, my mother was swift in her chastisement of me, but it did not deter me from caring and doing whatever action within my power to help others to feel better.
Nursing as a career is the most rewarding profession that ever exist. Adult nursing appeals to me because it gives me a real opportunity to make a positive differences to people’s life as this contributes in playing a vital role to helping solve the world’s health problems. From ongoing generations, nurses are faced with added challenges of finding new ways to improve their demanding environment and put a smile on the faces of many whilst continuing to make the world a better place despite the pressure they encounter. It is this challenge that appeals to me the most because my passion, commitment, selflessness and tirelessness to improve the life of others I believe will motivate me to make positive contributions to the success which the world will see over the coming years. From my early childhood I had the habit of caring my grandparents especially when they felt down
Caring for others has always been a passion of mine, and becoming a nurse has always been my dream. While my dream has turned reality, I can say that nursing has blessed me with the opportunity to not only be a servant to those in my community, but it has also allowed me to be of some comfort to patients and their loved ones during their darkest and most vulnerable moments. Nursing offers a variety of opportunities, where the only restrictions are the ones we set for ourselves. As for myself, all things are possible, for if I want it, I strongly believe it’s already mine. The depths that I will go to reach the latitude of success that I so desire is boundless.
Pursuing a career that allows me to enhance people’s wellbeing has always been my strong desire and by becoming a nurse, l feel will enable me to fulfil this. Nursing is considerably a challenging and yet a demanding profession, therefore will require various skills which l believe l have in order to embark on this career and make a difference in people’s lives.
Nursing is a lifelong learning experience and a challenging profession. My inspiration for becoming a nurse comes from an innate desire to help and care for people in their times of need. My experiences during my undergraduate years have helped me to become a qualified applicant for the Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science of University of San Diego.
Many influences can draw a person to choose a pathway to their career. Three research articles are reviewed and will be discussed. The main points that are reviewed in all of the articles is altruism, the concern for the welfare of others, the ability to work with others, ability to travel, salary, knowing someone who is a nurse, career with many opportunities, job satisfaction and stability. Of the interviewed nursing students and registered nurses, job satisfaction was correlated with the interesting work an individual can do employed as a registered nurse. Some factors that were further examined did not have a strong impact on the decision of becoming a nurse but is still significant. For instance, working in health is a factor that persuaded some students to choose nursing. These individuals had the idea of working in healthcare but decided to study nursing to see their options. Another factor that is not as common is to study nursing based on a friend’s decision (Wilkes et al, 2014). Many of the study subjects also found that nursing is a rewarding career because it gives you a sense of purpose and allows you to make a difference in someone’s life. In other cases, nursing may be used as a stepping stone into another career like medicine, physiotherapy, or occupational therapy (Eley et al, 2012). On the other hand, certain individuals have always aspired to become a nurse. Other important factors include being a part of a team, a recommendation from someone, not being
Have you ever wondered why nurses are so passionate about helping people? Is it because a nurse earns a lot of money? Being a nurse does not mean there is a lot of money, but there is a passion for nurses that drive them to get up every day and go to work to help thousands of patients’ injuries, illness, and diseases. In the late 20th century, there were not enough nurses, and patients suffered and died because of lack of health services. The reason a nurse inspires me is because I believe there is hope for patients’ illness, and I want to help people. A nurse’s career involves many educations, responsibilities, and good working environment.
In life it is hard to know if the career chosen is the perfect fit. How does one know if he or she is going towards the right profession? Once I learned more about nursing and became a CNA I knew nursing was a good fit for myself. In this paper I will first, explain what brought me to the nursing profession then, the values of nursing and how they relate to my personal values and lastly, my personal goals and how they relate to nursing.
In today’s society, the medical field is constantly thriving with technological improvements and the growth of educated individuals that contribute to the well-being of others. Nurses make up the largest majority of the industry, and with that, nursing is the fastest growing occupation. Nursing is a job that allows people to not only take care of the sick but also to experience, learn, and further their interests of the human body.
I believe this about nursing, it is not just a profession, but merging of passionate and holistic care. My desire to become a nurse sprouted when I went for a mission trip to a Leprosy Hospital near my home town in India. There was still a social stigma against leprosy and so called “Leprosy Sanatorium” was isolated from the rest of the world with a huge wall. I remember carrying a bag of clothes collected by my mother for the patients there. I was deeply touched by the smile and gratitude patients showed to the nurses caring for them and cleaning their wounds. That is when I decided that I want to become a nurse. Another reason for my decision to become a nurse is my brother, who is also a nurse. His experiences and stories from hospital inspired me and made me realize that nursing is truly for me. I joined one of the prestigious Universities in India for my BSN through merit and scholarship and I graduated at the top of my class. After graduation, I worked in various acute care settings and also as a clinical instructor in India.
I won't be following a parent or relatives footsteps by being a nurse and I haven't been inspired by anyone I know. With a gradual realization I knew that nursing would be a great job for me after I started watching Nurse Jackie I began to research nursing as a career which increased my interest and wish to be a nurse as the program opened my eyes to how close-knit a nursing team.
