Wes Anderson’s 2012 romantic comedy drama film, Moonrise kingdom tells the story of two twelve-year-olds who run away together in 1965 in New England. Sam Shakusky, an orphan, proves to be the most balanced young person with great potential. Throughout the film, Anderson reveals the theme of the wonderful potential young people have. He shows that this has been neglected by adults who overlook and control the young people. Despite the selfish attitude of the adults, the children maintain a happier and more accepting approach in everything they do. In the film there is no clear development emotionally between the two age groups. The adults have lost their original spirit and the children’s childhood has been rejected. Their parents are wanting them to grow up too fast. The parents are taking away their creativity and freedom that all children should be allowed. As this is the case, Anderson …show more content…
The adults have lost their original pioneering spirit. The children’s childhoods have been taken away and rejected by their parents wanting them to grow up too fast. Everyone has lost their original spirit of USA pioneers. Sam was an adventurous scout. He was one of the only characters that carried the spirit of the USA pioneers throughout the film. Sam ran away from the scout camp and went on an expedition across the island to meet Suzy. She was his love, they sent letter to each other promising to run away and meet up. This is what they did. Sam wore a racoon skin style hat as he trekked through the bush, kayaked down rivers and met Suzy. This style hat was first worn by USA pioneer, Davy Crockett. He was known as the ’King of the wild’. The original pioneering spirit of Crockett was shown through this hat and Sam. It showed the audience that the only characters in their society that was still living the original USA spirt was the children. The adults were failing the children.
Sam Wood is the protagonist in the story because the story starts off with him driving around Wells, and he was the one who discovered Mr. Mantoli's body. On page two, it says, "He slipped the car into gear and moved it away from the curb with the professional smoothness of an expert driver." This quote shows how Sam is an expert driver. Another quote on page thirty nine, "Sam reached up and removed his uniform cap ashamed that he had forgotten to do so until now. I'm terribly sorry to have to bring you this news." This quote describes how Sam is a sensitive person internally. In addition, Sam Wood hates to be called Sam and rather be called Mr. Wood. Sam has been a police officer for three years, (pg.2) and is a night
Born on a farm two miles from Mitchell, Indiana on July 21, 1851, he was soon orphaned and he and his brother and sisters moved to a nearby farm to live with their uncle and his nine children. As a child, Sam received no formal schooling and he chose to strike out on his own in 1869. Sam traveled down the Mississippi, to Rosedale, Mississippi, where he worked for a year in Charles’ Mill. It was here that Sam learned how to handle a pistol and honed his card playing skills. In 1870, Sam met up with Scott Mayes, a teamster headed to Denton, Texas. Sam had always been taken with the idea of moving to Texas and becoming a cowboy, and this looked like his chance. The two arrived in Denton, and Sam found employment with Sheriff W. F. “Dad” Eagan (who would later spend much effort searching for the outlaw Bass) (Webb Century of Frontier Defense 371-372). Sheriff Eagan employed Sam not as a deputy but as a farmhand; he curried the horses, milked the cows, cut firewood, but, most importantly, Sam spent some time as a teamster. It was at this position that he became acquainted with the country and learned all the trails, back roads and thickets that he would later use to elude the Texas Rangers (Webb Story of the Texas Rangers

Sam is a teenager who gets permission from his father to find his great-grandfathers land and live there. He does this because he feels cramped in his New York house. As he goes on living in the woods, he finds himself struggling for survival. He trains a falcon to hunt for him and learns how to live off the land. The book talks about survival and living on your own.

The pioneers showed an exceptional example of the American Dream. As many Americans learned about the new opportunities and the land on the west coast, they made the decision to leave behind their
To have the film in her perspective has that child-like innocence whilst still being ‘adult-like’ and having ‘adult things’ involved. As a child she is virtually powerless because it will be adults that hold all the power simply because they are older and bigger. This isn’t the
It is aimed at an adult type audience as it uses complex language and themes younger audiences may not understand. This production had a high expectation as it features experienced actors such as Russel Crowe and Caroline Goodall. It also won the APRA Music Award for the Best Film Score in 1994 and the Children’s Jury Film – Feature Film in the same year, but both were undeserved. The film does not provide the expected plot and use of characters that would make it more appropriate for younger

I feel that the film adaptation did a terrible job of displaying this relationships as these children, and portrayed them more as just seven random kids who happened to meet and decided they should fight a monster just for kicks. I did not find the theme of the movie to be compelling at all, and I feel that somebody who was watching the movie without ever reading the book may feel lost or confused as to why the adults choose to come back and fight It. Although there may have been close relationships within the film that viewers did not sense, I feel that the director ignored the concept of events bringing people close together in the film adaptation, and could have better portrayed these feelings by modifying the blood oath and Beverly scenes, and by putting more emphasis on the importance of the rock
The characters in the film Father, Mother and the two sons are in high conflict, low resolution with very fragile system with having children compelled to take sides with parents who they are identifying and idolizing. This leads to obvious developmental immobility in children in all the areas of their functioning; school life and peers, interpersonal relationship skills, identification, appropriate expression of their feelings and emotions etc.
Children of this age concentrate more on their peer groups and less on what their care givers think. Towards the later age they start to understand what it is to be part of a social society.
The film portrays the life of two young best
