The American Red Cross is a worldwide organization that helped during the times of war but also provided a path for scientific advancements. Through the American Red Cross and other organizations of this time, they opened up the doors for women to take the chance to advance in the medical field by participating in scientific experiments and being at the aide of wounded soldiers. During this time of scrutiny, the Great War was a hidden opportunity for the encroachment of medical research with the contribution to the expansion of nursing.
The Salvation Army is the largest non-governmental direct provider of social services in the country. The Salvation Army Thrift Stores raise money for its rehabilitation programs by selling donated used items such as clothing, housewares, furniture and toys at a cheaper price for those in need.
For this proposal, I interviewed the Surrey Salvation Army Thrift Store manager, Narmada Indrasiri. My goal was to discover whether the store raises enough money to help its rehabilitation program through donations. My interview consisted of questions such as (1) Do you get enough donations to fulfil store target? (2) Approximately how many donations you get per day? (3) Are all the donations in good condition to resell? (4) if not, what are the difficulties you have been facing? (5) How much money spend on the garbage pickup truck?
In conclusion to this paper, Salvation Army is a strong standing company that focuses on giving to those in need. The company has been growing for many years and has made a strong impact on every community that it touches. When Christmas comes around, it’s time for all the different types of charities to come out. The Salvation Army is one of them; they are out everywhere looking for people to give money. When they are ringing the bell, people do not ask what does this support. They are instantly digging in their pockets, wallets, and purses to find loose change. When they find coins or dollar bills, they just put them in the red bucket and keep on walking. Why do people do this? This organization is a non-profit organization. The money made at the Salvation goes to helping those in need. When money is donated to The Salvation Army it assists in funding their various programs. Some of the programs and services provided by The Salvation Army are Social Services which provides utility and energy assistance, the clothing and furniture vouchers, and food pantry. The Corps and Community Center which provides Youth After-school Program and Summer Day Camp Program, Weekly Senior Citizen’s Group and Weekly Worship. The Shelter and Community Feeding Program which provides Emergency Homeless Shelter for up to 75 people per night, men, women and families, Love Lunches and Dinners and “White Flag” Emergency Shelter which offers extra space during freezing conditions.
