Interview with the store manager at the Salvation Army Thrift Store
Conducting the interview
For this proposal, I interviewed the Surrey Salvation Army Thrift Store manager, Narmada Indrasiri. My goal was to discover whether the store raises enough money to help its rehabilitation program through donations. My interview consisted of questions such as (1) Do you get enough donations to fulfil store target? (2) Approximately how many donations you get per day? (3) Are all the donations in good condition to resell? (4) if not, what are the difficulties you have been facing? (5) How much money spend on the garbage pickup truck?
The results of the personal interview

Indrasiri, she said that the incoming donations are definitely not enough for them to achieve their target budget. Compared to her past experience with the company, she mentioned that the amount of good donation they get now is incredibly lower than before. She convinced that even though they get donations from approximately 35 donors per day, not every donation is reusable. Some of them are going to recycle bins and some unwanted donations end up in their garbage bins. By virtue of this, their garbage spending has gone up as it does not take much longer to pile up. She stated that the store alone spends between $900 to $1000 money on dumping their overflowing garbage bins every month due to unwanted donations and on Mondays the charge is double as the garbage pickup truck comes twice to empty overflowing trash (N. Hundreds of companies in the industry attend, and Bob’s Discount Furniture uses this showing to view new products, spot trends in the industry, and build relationships. In the interview, Ron Bomberger, VP of store operations, claimed that BDF is “somewhat of a follower in the design standpoint” by spotting styles that will work with their customer base in order to make furniture fun. BDF follows a “Jack Wells method” where the bottoms 30% of goods are dropped each year because they are not only taking up space on the floor, but they are also reducing their total revenue each year. They keep track of how many of each item is sold and use the
Initiated and organized holiday fundraiser for two consecutive years at MAXIMUS Federal Services and raised $1,200 in four weeks from gifts donated by employees. As part of my assignment while employed with Kearney & Company, P.C. (Kearney), I was assigned the responsibility of acting as a member on the prime contractor’s (MAXIMUS) Social Committee. As an active member of the committee, my colleagues and I were tasked with promoting collaboration amongst the subcontractors. While hosting a variety of events successfully boosted morale throughout the office, the committee agreed that we should do more. As it was the holiday season, we decided to display a giving tree in the office which had ornaments hanging on it with different items requested by families in need currently staying at the Heartly House. Located in Frederick, Maryland, the Heartly House provides comprehensive services for victims and survivors of domestic violence. The tree was a great success. In just four short weeks, the employees from all of the subcontractors united and purchased every item on the tree. The families at the Heartly House were able to enjoy the holiday season because of the efforts of the Social Committee and the collaboration amongst the

Home Depot 's target market is individual homeowners/small contractors. Even though the traditional ideology is that cost leadership and product differentiation business strategies are mutually exclusive, Home Depot was successful at using a combination strategy. First, Home Depot optimized the cost leadership strategy by offering low and competitive prices to its customers by emphasizing higher sales volumes with lower margins, while instituting a high inventory turnover. I raised money for scholarships to camp; helping hundreds of kids come to camp that would be unable to afford it otherwise. Development of a diverse staff was important to me. So I recruited, interviewed and hired central city staff to be part of camp. This involved going to their neighborhood for interviews because they had no means of getting to camp.
Canadian Tire has also agreed to have an extra dollar option added to transactions. The extra dollar will come from cashiers asking the costumers if they would like to donate a dollar for social responsibility. This will bring in extra money for the initiative making it easier for the project to have more funds to start the renovations on houses that are in desperate need of renovations. The funds for this project will be held in a local bank with the lowest fees for month no maximize profits. The recycled wood will be used first; the other profits will be used to buy the supplies needed to finish the projects. The initiative will always accept building supplies to help with the repair costs. Bins will be out just outside the exits of the store to encourage any other donations. The more donations that go towards the initiative will benefit greatly. The less money that has to be used the better so more people can be helped. The goal for the initiative is to stretch the money as much as possible. The initiative will always be looking to fulfill the mission of the initiative.
