On June 6, 2015, the Safe Summer Event at the Seminole Town Center was an instant success with the local area’s children. The event lasted from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the mall’s Center Court. Staff from Seminole County Office of Emergency Management helped both parents and kids stay informed as well as entertained by providing giveaways, arts & crafts, brochures and information in the case of an emergency, such as a hurricane. There was also a variety of entertainment for the kids, including a guitar player/singer who helped entertain the kids as well as various mascots such as Smokey the Bear and the Chick-fil-A cow. This event serves as an important reminder for various organizations to stay involved by providing different interactive stations
Good authors can create wonderful stories, but it all starts with the setting. Without the setting, the story will have no plot and the characters will have no reason to be there because the setting is a crucial element. Barry Callaghan, the author of “Our Thirteenth Summer” can effectively use setting as an important part of a story. The setting of “Our Thirteenth Summer” is in Toronto’s Annex District during the 1840’s, when the Holocaust was occurring. The setting influences the behaviour of the characters and reflects the society in which the characters live.
For example, the summer session, in comparison to the winter session, is a symbolic interpretation of a separate peace. The summer has an easygoing, relaxed environment with indulgent teachers. Teachers who are capable of laughing off or excusing careless and wild behaviors. “I think we reminded them of what peace was like, we boys of sixteen.” Gene muses that the boys being untouched by the war is what allows the teachers to be so tolerant. The students were “a sign of the life the war was fought to preserve.” When Finny falls and breaks his leg, it marks a literal and symbolic end to the summer session. As Gene puts it, “Peace had deserted Devon.” What took its place was an onslaught of strict rules and talk of war and enlisting. By using
The same things in differnet environment can exactly different meaning. Both speakers use same imagery as setting to expresstheir attitude. The speaker in “The Lonely Land”shows his negative feeling. Nevertheless, the speaker in “the summer in Yakima Valley indicate opposite feeling in the poem. Both speakers understand the importance of nature; however the speaker in “The Lonely Land” express cold and loneliness feeling from setting and the speaker in “Summer In Yakima Valley” express relaxed and peaceful feeling in the poem.

In “A Summer Life” Soto is the name of a six-year-old boy who faces a decision between sinning and not fulfilling his sweet tooth desires. This all started when Soto became bored and thought the only way to cure his boredom was through sin. Though Soto knows that sinning is iniquitous he ends up going against all of his religious beliefs and greedily taking the pie for his own longing to eat something sweet. Shortly after, Soto knows stealing the pie was wrong and regrets his decision. In “A Summer Life” Soto shifts from greedy to guilty by using striking imagery, potent ethos, and biblical illusions to recreate his story.
The initial impression one makes on his or her classmates during Plebe Summer often carries with them throughout their time at the Academy. In many ways, it is unfortunate because people are not given a second chance to prove their worth, but in other cases, flaws in character and work ethic are observed and they are accurate from the first impression.
A lot of great graphic novels have been challenged this year, one of them would be This One Summer. The book, This One Summer, by Mariko Tamaki and Jillian Tamaki, has received multiple awards, they received the Caldecott Honor award, which is the first graphic novels to ever receive one, but it’s still banned in schools. I don’t believe it should be banned for middle school students, but I do support it’s banning in elementary schools. Middle school students, and high school students, should be allowed to read this since they might have, or gone through similar situations. They could also relate to some of the content in the book like when Rose’s parents were fighting and she didn’t talk to them at all, or when she’s acting out because of that.
Here we go again! Its hurricane season in Florida and the local news is reporting a voluntary evacuation for Volusia County. My cell phone rings, I’ve been called in. I run through the house stuffing extra pairs of work clothes into my backpack. I kiss my wife and kids goodbye and over my shoulder I yell, “I’m not sure what day I will get to come home.” My wife sighs for she knows all too well that she’s in charge of the home front. While at times my career can be tough on my family, it’s what I know, what I love and what I choose to do. When the citizens of Volusia County race to evacuate the area, I move in to protect it.
To reduce the hazards of the security of the children in the setting all staff needs to have an up to date DBS check and safeguarding training. Another form of hazards to the security of the children and young people in the setting is things like doors, all doors need to be locked with a key out of reach of the children so they can’t get out and people who don’t have reason to be in the setting can’t get in the setting can’t get in. The same with

In my opinion, fairness was not apart of the theme in Kelly Link’s story, “Secret Identity.” The main character of the story, Billy Faggart, is a fifteen-year-old girl who has been chatting online with a thirty-four year old man named Paul Zell, in a game called "FarAway." Billy was pretending to be her older sister, Melinda, who is a high school teacher. Billy was wrong to trick such a lonely man into thinking that he was in love with her, when she is only fifteen. Kelly Link’s stories "Secret Identity," and “The Summer People,” are similar in that they represent themes of justice, equality, and redemption. In, “The Summer People,” redemption is portrayed when Fran leaves Ophelia and then feels guilty. Fran then lies to Ophelia saying she
Throughout my childhood, I have participated in a local 4-H club. In this club, I became a part of our town’s biggest festival, the Potter County Fair.
It was a bright hot summer day here in Little Pine First Nation, where the events took place. The chief and councillor’s had organized a fun filled day with family and friends spending it with one another. As the hot dreadful heat of the day goes by slowly the community is together as one enjoying the music blasted. The bass was pounding on my concession booth the good old country music that everyone likes. Kids are screaming, parents are cheering, cars and trucks are ramming, horses are stomping as they too are getting excited for the big day to start.
munication. 500 Days of Summer, which is one famous movie, we can recognize some important communication theory. In this paper, I would like to focus on the social penetration theory revealed in 500 Days of Summer. In this movie, some essential perspectives of penetration theory are revealed: depth and breadth of penetration, stages of the penetration theory, and verbal and non-verbal communication. In this essay, I am going to discuss these three characteristics revealed in the movie, 500 Days of Summer with my observations.
