The white parents would not let their children play with her because she was colored. There were no other students in her classroom she was very lonely. As a result, Ruby did not have many friends that were allowed to play with her.
With Ruby going to a white school it has affected her family. Her father was let go from his job even though he was the best mechanic there. Her mother was not allowed to shop at a store because her daughter was going to a white school. Rubies grandparents had to leave their farm because Ruby was causing so much trouble. All in all, with Ruby going to a white school it was
Ruby Laffoon (January 15, 1869 – March 1, 1941) was a politician from the U.S. Commonwealth of Kentucky. He was the Commonwealth's 43rd governor, serving from 1931 to 1935. At age 17, Laffoon moved to Washington, D.C. to live with his uncle, U.S. Representative Polk Laffoon. He developed an interest in politics and returned to Kentucky, where he compiled a mixed record of victories and defeats in elections at the county and state levels. In 1931, he was chosen as the Democratic gubernatorial nominee by a nominating convention, not a primary, making him the only Kentucky gubernatorial candidate to be chosen by a convention after 1903. In the general election, he defeated Republican William B. Harrison by what was then the largest margin of victory
Ruby Bridges was the first black child to attend an all white school in the biography there are many evidence that explains how and why Ruby was heroic. In the text it illustrates “I remember climbing into the back seat of the marshal's car with my mother, but I don’t remember feeling frightened”. Ruby Bridges was heroic because she wasn’t afraid to go to all white school. We can connect her examples into the real word to the kids who get scared when they go to unfamiliar places. On November 14, 1960, a brave, little girl walked into a segregated elementary school with four U.S. Marshalls. Her act of bravery changed the nation, her name was Ruby Bridges. Schools in the U.S. where segregated meaning only white people and black people couldn’t go to the same place, they had to be separated. Ruby was chosen to take a test to determine whether or not she could go to an all-white school. Her parents had finally gotten the call from NAACP that she had passed and could attend. Ruby’s mother was happy that her daughter would be attending a new school in hope for better education. Although her mother was happy her father wasn’t, he was worried of what people would say to Ruby and what would happen.
Beth Brown is an African American woman who studied astrophysics. Astrophysics is an area of science which applies physical laws discovered on Earth to phenomena throughout the cosmos. Cosmos is the world or universe regarded as an orderly, harmonious system (Dictionary.com). Beth is a very appreciated and inspiring astronomer. An astronomer is an expert in or student of astronomy. She was an inspiration to women and minorities in encouraging them to pursue their careers in astronomy/physics. Beth Brown died at the age of 39 due to a pulmonary embolism. When she died, the astronomical community lost one of its most buoyant and caring individuals (Bregman 1).

Activities would include a bubble map to describe Ruby and write a friendly letter to Ruby stating if they thought she was brave for what she had done. This book draws an emotional and personal connection.

At the age of six years old, it is safe to say that in the modern world many children live a fun and carefree life. However, this was not the case for Ruby Bridges. In the early 1960s, Ruby Bridges was known for being an activist for allowing integration in public schools. This trial and error was documented in a painting by Norman Rockwell called “The Problem We All Live With”. Rockwell is mostly known for his Civil Rights pictures and this one is by far the most popular due to the message that is being portrayed.
Ruby lived in the black community, they were the only white family in that part of town. Since Ruby’s family lived there, they often were looked down upon for living near such people. Society made them feel like it was wrong, and a disgrace. Ruby’s father was separated from the family and lived in Tennessee away from the family. Ruby’s mother, along with Ruby, had to make a living to provide for all the children.
Once they enter into the school, the teacher’s reactions towards seeing Ruby and her Mother, grew impulsively. Teachers didn’t expect to see two colored Negros in a white school. Some students stood out of the classroom to see what was happening, but they were escorted back in to proceed their lesson. This stereotype setting shows that as blacks they were not welcomed by the
