Reagan stated, “The march of freedom and democracy...will leave Marxism-Leninism on the ash heap of history ...”12 All through his term he worked to collapse the Union, to end the Cold War, and to tear down the Berlin Wall. Margaret Thatcher commented that “Ronald Reagan won the Cold War without firing a shot”.10 Reagan set up the collapse of the Soviet Union in a couple of ways. First, he put more funds into the U.S. military, forcing the Soviets to do the same.11 second, he was confident that the U.S.S.R was crumbling and failing even when those around him believed that Communism was strong. Third, he was not intimidated by the Soviets and, while he respectfully met and listened to Gorbachev, he was not wavering and was determined. Even though many factors contributed to the fall of Communism, Reagan sped the process up and the Union officially fell apart in …show more content…

Ronald Reagan: Presidential Prodigy Throughout history, many men and women have came to power in order to rule and govern a nation of people. Many have succeeded, but there has also been many failures. In the case of the United States, we have a man or women in power based upon the view of the people. The job of President of the United States is no easy task and few men have been able to successfully stand up to the challenge. That conflict between the United States and the Soviet Union began roughly around 1945, as a direct result of World War II, with fortunes and policies having ebbed and flowed over the thirty-six years prior to Reagan’s taking office. Thus with the missile crisis still in
The fortieth president of the United States, Ronald Reagan served from 1981-1989. His was a rather controversial presidency, during his two terms he worked to reinvigorate the economy of the United States; he wanted to restore the countries self-confidence and bring about prosperity, which is admirable. Even so, in my opinion he did not pass the test, he was short sighted and did not think inclusively. He wanted the nation to be prosperous, but not the whole nation. According to his son, President Reagan felt that anyone who was poor or lower class was that way because of their own life style and choices. That, is enough for me to say he didn’t pass, he was inconsiderate. I very much feel that had he been more considerate during his presidency,
