One of those is Reaganomics and how it positively affected the economy but sadly tripled the national debt, his foreign policy, and the Iran-contra scandal. Reagan promised to restore American power and prestige on the international front. He had a “peace through strength” strategy that meant when you give people a choice, that people would choose freedom. He began as soon as he was elected into office rebuilding honor to our country. He had to show other countries our strength and that we were not afraid. He created a foreign policy that would show the Soviet Union our strength.

As a boy he had a strong belief in the goodness of people and that they would do the right thing. He was different than most people in the way that he was against racial discrimination; once having invited black people that were not allowed at the local inn to his house where they were offered to spend the night and have breakfast the next morning. Reagan moved to Dixon in 1920 where he would graduate and get his first job as a lifeguard. Reagan eventually went on to college at Eureka College-- Reagan was known for doing extremely well in college having managed theater, being student body president, part of the football team, captain of the swim team, and even leading a student revolt against the college president.

Ronald Reagan was a man who had very strong beliefs. He took office in 1981, when he had won his election against Jimmy Carter. Over many years, many presidents have come and gone. All of them typically have done something to “define” them or something that makes them different or to stand out from all the others. But Ronald Reagan was different. His impact was possibly the most controversial of them all. Some argue that many of the problems in the world today have been caused by him.

Yet he also failed to address the chaos of the HIV/AIDS epidemic that affected many Americans and fumbled in actually enacting some of his foreign policies. He graduated from Eureka College in 1932 with a “Bachelor 's of Arts degree in social science and economics.”Before Mr. Reagan was president he was also an actor, and performed in 53 different movies. He was of the Christian religion. President Ronald Reagan was the 40th president, and part of the Republican party. The First Lady was Nancy Reagan, and the Vice President was George H.W. Bush while Ronald Reagan was in office. They were successful with two terms together from 1981 until 1989.
