I like this passage a lot, because Juliet finally gets her first whiff of madness inside her and she stands up strongly against a dominant male figure, who thought that he could take advantage of her. Her boss (a male surgeon who is highly praised in the medical college she works at) tried to sexually take advantage of her, but when he did Juliet stood up to him in a violent but revengeful way. She took a cleaning tool and slit his palm while threatening to cut all his tendons, knowing that if she cut all of his tendons then he would lose complete control of his motor skills. If she did cut all the tendons, he could possibly never be able to operate properly ever again, since he wouldn’t be able to move his hand. Then without thinking and
The Irrational Hatred in Fair Verona Everyone knows Romeo and Juliet due to the many spin offs and references in our modern day. However, this essay will go over the topic of Irrational Hatred in Romeo & Juliet. In Romeo & Juliet, the destructive effect of irrational hatred becomes apparent when the servants in the beginning of the story fight, Tybalt fights with Mercutio, and the unnecessary hostility between the Montague and the Capulet, which then causes the Prince to outlaw public fighting, the death of Tybalt, and the death of Romeo and Juliet.
Acting on selfish desires can result in violent actions. When one is overcome by grief they tend to act on impulse with revenge in attempt to fill their sorrow, when in fact that only makes the situation worse. In William Shakespheres Romeo and Juliet the fude between Montague and Capulet heats up as Romeo Montague is caught by Tybalt Capulet at a Capulet party. Tybalt selfishly wants to put Romeo in his place. The only way Tybalt negotiates is by war.
Romeo is a lustful and emotional 16-year-old that acts mainly on impulse and how he feels in the moment rather than what would be more sensible. In William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, Romeo’s irresponsible and dramatic identity causes him to act without thought and on impulse.
All teenagers have stupid ideas, especially in the play The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. In the play, two star crossed lovers meet, but there is a long standing family feud between the two. Romeo and Juliet eventually meet and fall in love despite the families hating each other. Fate and folly are major contributing factors, but it is feud that is most to blame for the star crossed lovers death.
“The devil takes a hand in what is done in haste”. Haste is a major theme shown throughout William Shakespeare's play, Romeo and Juliet. Many of the characters were impetuous in their actions and as a result, the consequences were tragic. The play itself unfolds throughout 4 short days. Lord Capulet was too eager in his desire for Juliet’s marriage to Paris, which ultimately led to her betrayal. Romeo’s rash decision to fall in love with Juliet soon became fatal. Juliet’s impulsive decision to avoid marriage ended her own life.
Juliet is a strong character in this book. She has the aspects of independence, determination, and love. Juliet represents these qualities in everything she does throughout the book. She shows very good character in the words she says. These next four paragraphs will go into more detail of these characteristics.
To begin, rage motivates people surrounded by certain characters to act in negative ways due to the impulsivity of their actions. For example, after the feverish battle between Mercutio and Tybalt, Mercutio unfortunately ends up dead in Romeo’s arms. Romeo then berates Tybalt profusely and states, “For Mercutio’s soul/ Is but a little way above our heads/ Staying for thine to keep him company/ Either thou or I, or both, must go with him” (III.i.119-122). This demonstrates Romeo’s overwhelming sadness over his friend’s death, but he is also shown to have so much rage that he wants to cause harm to Tybalt.
In this world hate means many different things. For some people hate may mean the emotion they feel against their country for all the deaths and disparities that the war torn country has caused them. For others the word could mean that the teen is going through a phase and may “hate” their parents for not getting them the a in style piece of clothing or a resplendent new phone. But in the 1300’s there was a whole different rationale of the word “hate”.
Throughout the play, “The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet”, many different types of love are shown, however, I believe loyal, parental love, and romantic love are the most popular and influential types of love throughout the story. The Capulets and Montagues show loyalty for their house, the friar shows parental love for Romeo as the nurse shows parental love for Juliet, and Romeo and Juliet show romantic love for each other. These three types of love, loyal love, parental love, and romantic love, show many similarities to one another as they do differences.
The parents sadly watch their children being carried into the family tomb. The play, by William Shakespeare, displays the relationships of Romeo and Juliet. This drama takes place in Verona, Italy, where the Capulets and Montagues are feuding. Poor relationships, deceit, and poor advice leads to tragedy. The teenagers relationships with their families are soon tested.
The song Bad Blood would fit in Act 3 scene 1. The beginning of the scene has Romeo adamantly tell Tybalt that he refuses to fight, and instead says, “But love thee better than thou canst devise/ Till thou shalt know the reason of my love./ And so, good Capulet, which name I tender/ As dearly as mine own, be satisfied” (lines 70-73). This quote shows that Romeo loves Tybalt like his own family, because he is, though Tybalt does not know this. He will not fight Tybalt because he is Juliet’s cousin. Mercutio would not allow Tybalt to disrespect Romeo, and so they both fought. Although Romeo tried to break up the fight, Mercutio was stabbed and killed by Tybalt. As soon as Romeo realized that Tybalt killed his best friend, he forgets all about his decision to love Tybalt, and gets his revenge for the death of Mercutio.
Romeo and Juliet is known as one of the most popular love stories ever written. However, the play is not about love, but about death. William Shakespeare wrote this play to warn readers about the danger of hatred and impulsive actions. Romeo’s love for Juliet and his impulsive nature contributed to the deaths of Tybalt, Mercutio, Juliet, Paris, Lady Montague , and Romeo himself.
In Shakespeare’s play, Romeo and Juliet, he once wrote, “Within the infant rind of this weak flower Poison hath residence and medicine power: For this, being smelt, with that part cheers each part; Being tasted, stays all senses with the heart. Two such opposed kings encamp them still In man as well as herbs-grace and rude will; And where the worser is predominant, Full soon the canker death eats up that plant,”(2.3.23-31). This was written from the Friar Lawrence’s point of view for Romeo and Juliet, and the meaning behind this quote can be applied in the book, Lord of the Flies by William Golding.
“O dear account! My life is at my foe’s debt”(1.5.124). In Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, a young man finds a perfect women after seeking different beauties through a crowd of masked faces, only to find out she is an enemy to his own family. The play was written during the renaissance period, and took place during the fourteenth century in an ancient city located in Italy, named Verona. Shakespeare begins by telling the story of Romeo Montague’s love for Rosaline, a woman who doesn’t love him back. Eventually Romeo overcomes his love for her, and became infatuated with a young women from the Capulet family, known as Juliet, and then quickly begins to pursue her. However, the long lasting feud between the Montague and Capulet families proves
Shakespeare wrote “Two households, both alike in dignity, from ancient grudge break to new mutiny, where civil blood makes civil hands unclean. From forth the fatal loins of these two foes a pair of star-crossed lovers take their life,”(Prologue.1-6). One of the main themes in Romeo and Juliet, as described by the quote, is love as a cause of violence and distrust because family members of Romeo and Juliet are betrayed and lied to and the star crossed lovers eventually kill themselves out of love. Romeo and Juliet go behind their parents back as the meet on the balcony and get married. Juliet lies to the nurse and her parents about why she is going to Friar Lawrence. She ends up telling her parents she wants to get married to Paris even though she is thinking the opposite. All of these lies are told because Romeo and Juliet
