According to my understanding the project manager in the construction industry is a person assigned by an organization to run, control, and manage a team to achieve the final project execution goals. Where as in actual view “A project manager is the person who has the overall responsibility for the successful initiation, planning, design, execution, monitoring, controlling and closure of a project.’’ (Duncan Haughey, 2014) Investigating from the literature according to International Journal Of Academic Research (2011, Vol 3. No.6) the role of construction managers in construction projects are as following - 1. Planning –In my point of view planning the steps finally leading to delivery of project. This also includes activity planning, activity sequencing and resource planning. 2. Controlling – What I think is controlling can be all about controlling quality of project, controlling the cost or cash flow, and controlling wastage of resources. 3. Monitoring – According to my knowledge monitoring by project manager deals with the monitoring of the progress of the project and that can be achieved by checking the Daily Progress Reports prepared by site in charges and concerned department in charges every day. 4. Negotiating Contract conditions – In my opinion it is project manger’s responsibility to negotiate with contractors regarding payment, quality assurance, Cost price per unit for execution of deliverables, and time bondage. According to Duncan Haughey (2014) the other

A project manager can be appointed by the client (especially if it was an inexperienced client in the construction industry where the majority of clients in the UK fall into this category), in order to help him build up his business needs case for the project development, find alternatives and options that are more suitable in order to achieve his business needs, work out the investment appraisals and risk assessments, choose the most suitable procurement method for the project, select the project team, establish and supervise the performance. An important task the project manager must perform before adopting the procurement method is to approach the client, and understand specifically what does he requires and what the outcomes from the new construction building are, more specifically the objectives and the products of the building. After
A project manager is an individual who really needs a set of skills to achieve a successful construction project. The expertise and learning should be based on technical knowledge, site knowledge, management knowledge, controlling and finally executing. He has some ways to divide his working task, for example introducing sub contract or allotting co-engineers and workers.
Construction Management is the overall planning, outlook, coordination, budget and control of a construction project from start to finish. Without them, construction projects would be very unorganized and chaotic. They make sure projects run smoothly and efficiently. They work with electricians, plumbers, carpenters and general contractors to produce the safest and best way to complete the project for the customer. Being a construction manager is a good job because they help many people build what they need.
The stages of the construction project management differ from the stage of business management, in several respects. For example, construction management first stage is the resolution; it is necessary to identify requirements relating to the project by the owner and choose a consult to help in completing a preliminary assessment for the project and the feasibility, also the impact of its presence in the economic and social development areas. However, planning is the first stage on
The main role of a project manager on a construction project is that they are the people who are responsible for making decisions, both large and small and are also responsible for everything that happens on the site from the date of starting of the project till the closure of the project, they take the overall responsibility for the successful initiation, design, execution, monitoring, controlling. A project manager sets up the estimates, budget and construction timetable for the clients and also develops the construction strategy and has the authority to select the subcontractors and workers. A project manager has to deal with the clients and answer their necessary questions. The project manager not only has to deal with the clients but also coordinate with the architects, engineers associated with the project, he even has to ensure that the construction being done complies with all building codes and doesn’t end up with any legal problems. When there is a delay in the project or any problem occurs while construction the project manager is to be questioned. The project manager makes sure he is aware of the risks and controls them and minimises uncertainty. A project manager has to even take care of the documentation needed while the construction. He has to develop a team leadership and do business partnering, Business partnering is "the development of successful, long term, strategic relationships between customers and suppliers, based on achieving best practice and

I am interested in undertaking construction project management because some of the modules undertaken during my study are in common with this master's program. Some of those modules are: construction technology, principles of management, contract administration, professional practice, environment studies and financial accounting. I would like to develop my knowledge and understanding the management of construction project, as a quantity surveyor, this will enable me to perform my work professionally. During my short period working in construction industry, I realized how the industry is multidisciplinary, it involves many people with different background, and it is hard to manage, coordinate and communicate with people at all levels. Communication is almost always named as the second important skill by project managers and team members. Thus it is essential to gain skills and knowledge in managing people and the organization. Software is just a BIM tool that is meant to support the technologies, the protocols, the standards and the process involved in the implementation of BIM for management of construction projects. Quiet few number of researches had been carried out on BIM, it is so few when compared with researches on other phenomenon in construction field, possibly because of this and the fact that BIM discussion is so much contemporary make many to think BIM is new whereas the technology have history dated back to over 50 years. In most of the researches, BIM is discussed in relation to construction management and not really akin to project management or there may be little dubiety about the differences between the two terms. Both terms are kind of management term, construction management is more of management of technical process and on the other hand project management is more of strategic and business oriented management, the difference is big and consequential. Construction manager as a representative of construction team is expected to maintain close and good link (collaboration) with the Design team and the facility management team and with all people that represent the client on a project. Project manager supposed to create the link and be a facilitator of processes involving the design team, construction team and the facility management team, PM roles give more consideration to life-cycle management of projects. It can be clearly noticed that the fundamental
