The article, “Robots on Earth” by Jerry West, explains that although robots may be evil in movies and books, they help us more than people may think. In the article, West discusses how the opinions of the media are quite different than the jobs that real robots perform. Humans have many difficult jobs that must be done for the good of the population, which is why we have robots to complete these tasks. Chores such as welding, and working in factories harm our health; so, robots do these jobs to keep us safe. Robots have been useful to humans since the past. They’re made to make human life easier. Since early times people have been dreaming of making robots and different people have made different kinds of robots. Robots has been useful in the past, they’re now useful in present-time, and they’re going to be useful in the future.

The debate over whether robots are helping or hurting the workplace is more heated than ever. Advances in technology are soaring thus making an increase in the use of robots in the workplace more and more commonplace. Some believe the use of robots in the workplace can never totally result in the loss of jobs, but due to the fact that robots have invaded the workplace environment, many people fear this indicates replacement of human jobs. Although advancement in technology of robotics and artificial intelligence may offer precision, productivity, efficiency and flexibility, the loss of human jobs will be devastating to the many people who depend on their jobs to make a living and provide for their families.

Jerry West’s article “Robots on Earth” talks about robots that, unlike books or movies, aid people simplifying their lives and health. As robots don’t need specific conditions; they are perfect for performing jobs that might be harmful to humans. The author is skeptical about the robots that scientists have been creating to become more like people. One of the biggest controversies with the advancement of artificial intelligence is the debate on job automation. Many people believe that artificial intelligence will advance to become better than humans and replace humans in most jobs. The opposite belief is that AI will be used to improve the standard of living and will be a tool to support humans, not replace them. Job automation has many benefits such as performing more dangerous jobs and complete tasks that humans do not desire to do. Even though job automation has benefits, there are many people who believe robots will take over the job market and the unemployment rate will skyrocket. There are multiple supporting factors for each side of the job automation debate, but the argument will never be settled until AI is further advanced and utilized.

Robots are in and around our jobs at every moment, many believe these just aid in creating jobs, but they may at one point replace us in even the most specialized of tasks. The current idea that the economy is improving and unemployment is at a relative low may be correct but is highly unstable. Soon all of the major industries will fall to the robot revolution, based on their improvements over the previous years, benefits to employers, and several expert predictions.

Introduction: Humanity has always struggled with the concepts of automation because of its lasting effects on people. While most would argue against automation in this classroom, I suggest instead that we accept it and allow it to become part of our lives. I have family members whose jobs have been replaced by automation, and I honestly think they are living a better life because of it. It will affect humans well in both the long and short term by allowing us to continue to push towards an optimistic future. I understand that this is a long way off, and I understand it will be a hard road but it is worth it.

A robot is a machine designed to complete or carry out multiple tasks when programmed to do so. Robots play a huge role in discovery, such as Mars Curiosity Rover, that is used to observe Mar’s surface and environment. We have used Robots to study the moons surface to see what it is like and to learn more about space. We use robots today in military by using them to disarm bombs and find enemy locations. Robots will have a positive impact on our future, because robots will help us to discover more in the ocean and space, help us save lives, and aid in the military.

But with these great advantages there are always some disadvantages to weigh in to the equation. After all, there is no such thing as a free lunch and robots are no exception to this rule. There are of course a few negative aspects to robot usage. Here are some of the questions that arise: are there such kinds of robots that should not be created? Will robots put capable workers out of jobs, if so is this a justifiable action? And of course the ignorant issue of, what if some day robots become like people, in terms of thinking and acting for them selves, how would we be able to distinguish robot from human?
