I am shocked at your attitude towards the death penalty, demonstrated in your article “I SEE A KILLER DIE”. I completely disagree with the idea of capital punishment. Therefore I felt it was necessary to respond to you, considering your opinion about Robert Harris’s execution.
You started at the very beginning with the title I SEE A KILLER DIE, written white on black with capital letters which captures the attention of the reader. As you wrote “I SEE”, it tells how the TV reporter watched with no will. Then specifying and labelling “A KILLER”, without giving a name to depersonalise Harris, like he isn’t really a human being, which creates the intention of a compelling acceptance of his execution by the reader.
Mr Hall, as I perused your article,

Michael mother, Sharon Mankins, watched the execution. She said “I have no sympathy for Harris and I doubt whether his maker had either”. This shows she is grateful of the punishment Harris received as it is shown by her attitude, implying she wanted revenge. Desmond Tutu once said “to take life when a life has been lost is revenge not justice.” This shows that when she related him to a “beast”; it indicated how she actually was thirsty for vengeance not justice.
She also mentions about Harris executers in her speech which can be linked to a connotation which you included previously in the article, that the fact they gave him “a chilling piece of last minute advice”, it implied the pleasantness and the gratification from his death. The advice “don’t try to hold your breathe. It will be the worse for you”, hints, indirectly a humiliation towards Harris, referring people are satisfied by his ending; where what happened to him in my stance is cruel.
The capital punishment is brutal and in my opinion, it should be revoked from every nation around the world because it’s morally depraved, as it causes a fearful, cruel and depressing atmosphere. Humans deserve to get a chance to mend and regret their crime rather than eliminating them for
My feelings are that we should kill the death penalty; those reasons could be political, religious and spiritual reason to oppose capital
Other might not see the fact that Harris was not completely to blame but thousands of death anti-death campaigners including Nobel Prize winning nun Mother Teresa have opened up their eyes to see the truth. They have looked past evidence and acted upon their morality by fighting for Harris’ mercy and they said that due to his traumatic past (alcoholic parents and neglect), Harris was terrorized and should not be killed for something that was not his
What we need is a clear solution or a view how we are going to come to a decision on either if we should rid the death penalty once for all or keep it. I believe that death penalty, such as electrocution or lethal injection is very pricy. The practice itself is also very barbaric. Death penalty promotes vengeance rather than justice. No justice system is perfect and innocent people may get convicted of a crime that they never committed. There have been many instances where the innocent good civilian has been found guilty and later released because of the false conviction. If we are using capital punishment, there is no way to reverse what has been done. But one may argue that the death penalty can actually enforce the law better, and if it isn’t painful it isn’t barbaric. They also may argue that if there are strong laws to enforce what we are trying to do, the crime rate might go
The body was mostly unrecognizable his uncle only identified the body as Emmett's because of his father’s ring.Emmett’s brutal murder and unfair trial was proof on how unfair African Americans were treated during the the civil rights
Capital punishment is something no person should endure, no matter how awful the committed crime may be. It is a cruel and sick punishment, for example, someone who has killed somebody has
Life is precious and should not be taken for granted. In the United States capitol punishment has been abolished or overturned in 20 states. According to Citizens United for Alternatives to the Death Penalty, the nation's opinion is split right down the middle. The death penalty has been the topic of discussion in recent years, it has been very controversial primarily based on how it is permanent. Once action is taken and the punishment of death has been dealt wrongful execution of an innocent person would be an injustice that can never be rectified.
The death penalty is one of the worst punishments for criminals. There are so many problems rooted in the death penalty.I believe we should get rid of the death penalty because they could be killing an innocent person that has been convicted. We should also get rid of the death penalty because killing someone is more expensive than keeping them in jail for life.People on death row are promised a quick death not a slow and painful one but there have been times when prisoners are taking longer to die and its more painful than it should be.
The history of our world is filled with countless controversies that have sparked arguments amongst people. Debates ranging from human rights to abortion provoke disputes among many countries. The most contested opposition between people is unquestionably capital punishment. Capital punishment was widely applied in ancient times throughout the world. We have been using the principle of capital punishment since almost 18th Century BC, possibly even before that. While some people argue that it is immoral and against human rights, others see it as a perfect opportunity to
The death penalty, formally reflected as capital punishment, is one of the most controversial issues in America. The debate about capital punishment has been going on for decades with both sides arguing for their claim. Death sentences are usually handed out to those who have committed a capital crime; however, the death penalty shouldn’t be so easily considered based on the margin of possible error that can be made in the process. It has been proven, and not everything is one hundred percent. There are flaws in the criminal justice system, and the fact that we use the Adversarial system in which the prosecution and defense pick and choose what will be presented should be taken into account. Even though some people may believe capital
Capital punishment also called death penalty, should be abolished as it could lead to wrongful conviction. From 1963 to 2015 there has been a total of 156 death row exonerations. They weren’t just thrown in holding cells and were released the next day, they were on death row in prison for 12 years being the minimum. The case of
The united states should abolish the death penalty. It has no place in the United States criminal justice system. It’s a never ending cycle of murder and it’s not justice. A better alternative to the death penalty would be life in prison without parole long term prison sentences punish just as effective as capital punishment the death penalty is extremely flawed the criminal justice system can not adequately administer the death penalty to often innocent people are killed
Despite all the pros and cons of capital punishment, society must think about what is truly correct and most practical for our world. Capital punishment is not functional in today’s legal system. There are countless amounts of evidence that proves these legal killings to be ineffective. We, as Americans, must correct this irrational practice before it does anymore permanent damage.
Perfectionism is not about achievement and growth. Perfectionism is the belief that if we live perfectly, look perfectly and act perfectly, we can avoid the pain of blame, judgment and shame.
Capital punishment is the execution of a perpetrator for committing a heinous crime (homicide), and it is a hotly debated topic in our society. The basic issue is whether capital punishment should be allowed as it is today, or abolished in part or in whole. My argument is that:
The current economic climate of the world is changing with regards to energy consumption and generation, fossil and nuclear fuels currently make up the majority of resources used to produce electricity globally; these fuels are used to produce around 88% of the UKs electricity (Carbonbrief.org, 2015). There are a few main problems with fossil fuels the first being that there is a finite supply, eventually in years to come these reserves shall be spent, the second problem with fossil fuels is the emissions they produce. Although sciences are divided in the extent of the damage cause by these emissions most do believe the emissions produced by fossil fuels are damaging to our
