What are the effects of environmental pollution in Riverside? We have gone over what environmental pollution is and what types of pollutions are primary found in Riverside. However, environmental pollution has a broader effect on human health, ecosystem health and environmental justice. The primary health issues that come with the impact of air pollution are asthma, cardiovascular illnesses and premature mortality. These health issues are due to pollution and the poor air quality such as ozone. Thus, human health becomes a concern and issue. The individuals who are usually more vulnerable to such illnesses are the children and elderly. For example, there’s approximately 162,438 children under the age of and 258,586 adults aged 65 years and older in Riverside county that are prone to environmental health illnesses (cdph). According to UCLA institute of the Environment and Sustainability, …show more content…
As a result, pollution and climate change can cause an effect on the ecosystem. For example, an increase of heat temperature, wildfires, sea level rise, storms, and flooding, droughts can change the ecosystem of a region. As for Riverside County, wildfires are a threat to their ecosystem. Wildfires can have significant economic and social impacts on the communities. According to the Climate and Health Profile Report of Riverside County by California Department of public Health Office of Health Equity and UC Davis ten percent of Riverside’s population or 212,946 live in fire hazard zones with a moderate to very high severity. Although, wildfires are part of nature, high carbon emissions can increase the possibilities of wildfires happening. Furthermore, wildfires contribute to poor air quality and air pollution. In addition, climate change, population growth and expanding development can also increase the possibilities of
Judge Nelson’s retirement in Berrien County has created a vacancy that you will have to fill over the next few months. I would like to personally recommend Stephen Smith, J.D. for the position. He is an excellent and well-qualified candidate who has served as a lawyer both in the Washington D.C. area and the Berrien County area for almost two decades. Furthermore, he has many prestigious accomplishments, including graduating magna cum laude, and being recognized as one of the top construction attorneys in the Washington D.C. area, which is no easy feat.
Riverside County (RC) was first incorporated in 1832, and is currently the fourth most populated county in California, with 2.3 million residents. RC is a diverse area of urban, suburban, and rural communities. Geographically, it stretches over 7,200 square miles, including 26 incorporated cities and 25 school districts. RC is currently divided by two (2) main highways (I-15 and I -10), and two main freeways (R – 91 and R – 60). Because of the continuous population surge, as well as the diversity of terrain, RC face numerous traffic issues.
Pollution continues to pose an enormous threat to residents of urban cities worldwide. In the August 2008 Monthly Update, it is stated that approximately 800,000 deaths each year can be attributed to outdoor air pollution, making pollution the single most harmful environmental hazard to human health in urban areas (Kallman). The fact that pollution kills hundreds of thousands of people each year alone portrays just how dangerous living in these conditions can be. Kallman writes about a study which proves an increase in upper respiratory diseases, cardiovascular mortality, respiratory mortality, and low birth weights when exposed to air pollutants (August 2008: Monthly Update). These can be very serious diseases and complications which, when contracted, can lead to death or very serious illnesses. There
California’s Central Valley includes the cities of Fresno, Visalia, Bakersfield, Modesto, Stockton, Vacaville, and Yuba City. It covers approximately 20,000 square miles while being enclosed by mountains. (Encyclopedia Britannica, 2011) The Central Valley experiences hot summers with temperatures that reach 110 degrees and winters that get as cold as 30 degrees. Being that mountains fence the Valley, we are the central target for pollutants to travel to. (Berg, 2011) A decade ago, we were
Tustin Ranch, North Tustin, Tustin Legacy, and Tustin are the classic places of Orange County. Tustin is an alluring city which had a great history. This community began to develop from 1960. This neighborhood never lost its prestige though many cities in South California started to be contemporary. To move to this graceful abode, Tustin Movers always persuade secured and comfortable relocation.
Living in a place with bad air quality is a risk to everyone, but there are people with significantly higher instability. People with pre-existing maladies, mainly cardiovascular and respiratory, are more susceptible to more severe illnesses. Children are also more vulnerable than healthy adults. This is because their systems and internal organs are not fully
The Clean Air Act (CAA) has impacted every single person’s health in the United States—luckily for the good. Without the CAA, companies would have no restrictions on what they could or could not release into the air. If companies continued to do pollute the air without any concern, then there would be major impact on people’s health nationwide. For children, the risks of air pollution are much greater than adults. Children tend to spend more time outside which exposes them to more air pollution. Children also tend to breathe through their mouths, which allows air toxins to go directly to the lungs. If young children are exposed to major air pollution, they are prone to have undeveloped lungs and
Air pollution can affect our health in many ways with both short-term and long-term effects. Different groups of individuals are affected by air pollution in different ways. Some individuals are much more sensitive to pollutants than are others. Young children and elderly people often suffer more from the effects of air pollution. Air pollution has many effects on human health, affecting a number of different systems and organs. Effects range from minor upper respiratory irritation to chronic respiratory and heart disease, lung
Starting in the year 2004, the air pollution has reached an alarming level in the city o Toronto. Dr Barbara Yaffe, the acting medical officer of health of Toronto Public health, has released a report in July 2004 saying that the “air pollution [in the city] has contributed to over 1700 premature deaths and 6000 hospitalization admission in Toronto each year” (Yaffe, 2004, p.i). According to this report, pollutants such as ozone, nitrogen dioxide, sulphur dioxide, and carbon monoxide have increased within the air of the city; these pollutants are tiny particles that are 2.5 micron in diameter or less and can affect people’s respiratory system and cause cardiovascular and respiratory problems such as “asthma, bronchitis in children, adult chronic bronchitis, and heart problem” (TPH, 2007, figure 1). Although it
Air contamination can hurt us when it aggregates at high amounts all around in sufficiently high concentrations. A huge number of Americans live in ranges where urban brown haze, molecule contamination, and poisonous toxins posture genuine wellbeing concerns. Individuals presented to sufficiently high levels of certain air contaminations may encounter: bothering of the eyes, nose, and throat, wheezing, hacking, mid-section snugness, and breathing troubles. Compounding of existing lung and heart issues, for example, asthma. Increased danger of heart disease What's more, long haul introduction to air contamination can bring about malignancy and harm to the invulnerable, neurological, conceptive, and respiratory frameworks. In extraordinary cases,
New York City may be nicknamed the “greatest city in the world” but that does not exclude the people living here from being subject to air pollution which could be contributing to health problems. The different forms of air pollution found in this city can cause or exacerbate conditions of respiratory illnesses, asthma, inflammation of airways, or even lung or heart disease. According to NYC Environmental Protection (2018), some of the biggest offenders of air pollution in this city include: · Fine particulate matter, or PM 2.5, which originates from vehicle combustion systems as well as from fuel-burning water boilers used for heating buildings in the winter · Ground level ozone, which comes from vehicle engine exhausts and industrial emissions
Robert D. Brook et al. (2004) defined air pollution as a heterogeneous, complex mixture of gases, liquids and particulate matter. According to Robert D. Brook et al. (2004), several epidemiological studies have indicated that there is a consistent risk for cardiovascular
I am pursing my research in an environmental toxicology lab because I would like to understand the effect of air pollution have on human and animal cardiovascular health. Growing as a child in Taiwan, I remember vividly that I always had to wear masks to prevent allergies such as watery eyes, nasal congestion, and running nose that were caused by the dusty and air pollution in the city whenever I went into the city. I was not the only one who was affected by the quality of air in the city. My younger brother also has trouble with the dusty city air. He had an environmental triggered asthma and had to use rescue bronchodilator inhalers to relieve his symptoms. Due to lack of government regulation in air quality and urban greenery establishment
Air, is one of the most substantial source to mankind and our planet. While it exists, so does everything else along. However, in today’s epidemic, there has been certain factors that have increased in understanding whether the air we breathe today is healthy or not? Is it doing more harm than we thought? In other words, the health risks against air pollution have risen in the past few decades; all from what you may ask? Well, it could be for various factors and evaluations; either environmental or materialistic. Pollution is a major public health crisis in the world. (Friis, 2012). This is one of the conflicts that contribute to various aspects of an individual’s life, whether they may realize it or not. In this paper will include the sources that cause pollution with the effects it cause as well as policies on the regulation of air pollution.
Pollutants do not have a big influence on the increase of death cases of people over 65. With growing old the impact of pollutants increases [18]. The conncetion between pollutants and death of children younger than 5 is not statisctically important. Investigations show that pollutants do have an impact on the health of people of all age, not only on elderly people [19].
