New York City may be nicknamed the “greatest city in the world” but that does not exclude the people living here from being subject to air pollution which could be contributing to health problems. The different forms of air pollution found in this city can cause or exacerbate conditions of respiratory illnesses, asthma, inflammation of airways, or even lung or heart disease.
According to NYC Environmental Protection (2018), some of the biggest offenders of air pollution in this city include:
· Fine particulate matter, or PM 2.5, which originates from vehicle combustion systems as well as from fuel-burning water boilers used for heating buildings in the winter
· Ground level ozone, which comes from vehicle engine exhausts and industrial emissions

According to the American Lung Association reports (2018), Honolulu is tied in first place for lowest amounts of ozone and for lowest amounts of particle pollution, making it one of the cleanest cities in the US. However, I know from personal experience, riding a bicycle in traffic with buses and cars and gas-powered scooters, I would inhale a lot of pollution on my commutes. I also know people who you can pay who will pass your emissions test when normally your vehicle would fail so I know that there are a lot of vehicles with high polluting emissions there. Under some conditions that would cause the area to be more polluted but, according to Geology and Geophysics professor Dr. Rubin of the University of Hawai’i (2009), the wind from the surrounding ocean carries much of the pollution away. This, combined with the fact that there are no major industrial facilities there, keeps the amount of harmful air pollution very low. New York City doesn’t have those winds carrying their pollution away (although I know that there is no “away” since it does go somewhere and affects someone
Being one of the biggest social issues in Los Angeles, Air pollution has two main reasons: vehicle traffic and population growth. Actually, it is in a such crucial level that scientists indicate that air pollution in Los Angeles may endanger peoples lives. Scientific researches show that the air pollution causes cancer and have an impact on pregnant woman. Advertisements shows us some solutions like making public transportation common and sustainable housing. With the growing population of Los Angeles, something has to be done . Otherwise it is going to be impossible to deal with the air pollution. Population growth in Los
There is a significantly smaller number of people and cars out in the country, so the pollution isn’t near as bad as it would be in a city. Just because there are less cars and people, doesn’t mean that the air in the country is perfectly clean. Those rednecks with their big trucks usually end up not worrying out exhaust problems, or sometimes run a straight pipe, causing even more air pollution than probably 2 or 3 cars. In the country, if you were to take a walk in the woods, you would probably run into someone riding a quad. So just because there are less cars, doesn’t mean there aren’t other ways for the air to be polluted.
Moreover, acute health effects were observed at levels common in many us cites such as Los Angeles, as well as, below current U.S. National Ambient Air Quality Standards. Overall these studies shown respiratory effect increase parallel with pollution levels, with a near linear dose-response
There are many forms of public transportation such as: buses, trains, airplanes, trolleys, subways, and many more. Today these transits are not as widely used as they need to be in some areas, in my opinion. Of course they are the preferred method of travel inside urban areas; the American Public Transportation Association shows this data when they listed in 1999 the top thirty-five largest transit agencies. As seen, they are all major or larger metropolitan areas such as: New York, NY, Los Angeles, CA, and Chicago, IL (10/3, http://www.apta.com/stats/modesumm/35mbag.html). Rural areas need these wonderful services just as often too. People in these settings drive farther to reach their destinations so therefore they drive just as much as in major cities but have more driving time. So therefore air pollution needs to be taken care of everywhere, not just in metropolitan areas.
The purpose of this report is to raise awareness among the habitants of the greater city of Los Angeles, California about the health problems that air pollution causes to their lungs but also remarks a major negligence from the industries which polluted the air with a minimum remorse and causing an irreversible damage of our natural environment. By ignoring the air pollution problem we are putting in jeopardy the wellness of the general population. For these reasons we are requesting the approval of the following actions to stabilize the air quality of the city of Los Angeles.
There are two main types of air pollution, particulate matter (PM) and ozone. Particulate matter is some tiny dust. For example, according to a beam of light at night there are countless dusts floating in the air. They are particle. Ozone is an invisible chemical gas in the air. When these gas touch with light will become smog. Factory and vehicles exhaust emissions have become the largest cause of PM and ozone pollution in the United States. If a plant wants to run, they need to burn fuel to provide power; however, a lot of particulate matter will float in the air when the factory burns fuel. When people drive cars can
When people think of air pollution, they most immediately picture heavy smog drifting over cities and industrial plants. This is the first and most evident form of air pollution.
Most of the people live within the major cities where the evidence of pollution in the atmosphere can almost be seen daily.
The vast majority of air pollution is caused by humans. Manufacturing, building, and driving releases gases which cause trouble breathing. Many manufacturers haven’t done anything about it. The exhaust from factories is filled with chemicals and many things bad for the air. Many oxides are included in the exhaust, including carbon,
Indoor air pollution and urban air quality are listed as two of the world's worst pollution problems in the 2008 Blacksmith Institute World's Worst Polluted Places report.[1]
Most people have heard that air pollution is bad for the planet. That pollutants we put in the air are causing this thing called “Global Warming.” The information that sometimes gets left out is the impact of ambient air pollution to the health of humans. Ambient air pollution is outdoor pollution originating from industries, cars, and trucks. These pollutants can wreak havoc on the human respiratory system (Ambient air pollution). Respiratory conditions such as asthma, acute bronchitis, COPD, and pneumonia have been on the rise as ambient air pollutions have climbed. Laws have been introduced to help regulate the amount of pollutants produced, but they still are produced. The levels of these dangerous compounds even though regulated are still too high.
The air pollution that hangs over the cities sits in the atmosphere and affects millions if not billions of people all over the world and can have serious health effects. Concerns for those that become exposed to pollutions can experience things such as lung and respiratory diseases or difficulties, cardiovascular complications, coughing, irritation to the eyes and throat, symptoms or increased symptoms of asthma, a heart attack, cancer or even death. Some people may be more sensitive to pollutants than others such as children, elderly, and those who already have respiratory problems. The mass effects not only cause disruptions to human health but also to the health of the environment as well. The pollution in the air has the potential for causing acid rain which is caused
Closely related to the urbanization of Washington is air pollution. With the industrial growth of the community, harmful emission plague the environment from sulfur dioxide emission to the common vehicle emissions. Air pollutants pose a serious respiratory health issue that can cause aggravated cardiovascular and respiratory illness. Major causes of the

Cars have been around for over 100 years and they have provided a fast way of transportation. However, many people do not realize the harmful emissions that cars exert and the detrimental effects that they pose on environments and ecosystems around the world. Hawaii is a small state and tourism is what drives our economy. Activities such as hiking, snorkeling, and shopping are some of the main attractions in Hawaii. As a result, tourism causes a lot of car use and that paired with the rapidly increasing population of Hawaii, air pollution will destroy the environment and organisms of Hawaii. It is important that the people of Hawaii focus on this issue as soon as possible in order to save the environment and tourism. I want to try to persuade and show the public about the benefits that an electric car can have and show the negative effects that petroleum and diesel fuel using cars can have on the environment by using posters and ads and also making a non-profit organization that uses volunteers to help spread the word about the negative effects of car emissions and the benefits of electric vehicles..
