Every year, a star player underwhelms his fans with a mediocre point production, or just by being a liability on the ice. Here's a few of our favorites. 1. Rick Nash (New York Rangers) Recently, Rick Nash has had a habit of alternating good, nearly point-per-game seasons with mediocre showings, but the last few seasons have shown how little he has left in the tank. Averaging 37 points in the last two seasons, it's almost a surprise the Rangers haven't bought out his 7.8-million-dollar contract by now. 2. Marc-Andre Fleury (Vegas Golden Knights) It's hard to call a three-time championship goalie overrated, but keep it mind the last two rings were earned mainly as a backup to Matt Murray. While he's always posted respectable numbers in the regular season (excluding last year's), his goals-against-average balloons in the post season …show more content…
John Carlson (Washington Capitals) Carlson finished the 2015-16 with a bang, scoring 39 points in an injury-limited 56 games, only to turn it up a few notches and scoring 12 points in 12 playoff games, including five goals. Last season, on the other hand, was a disappointment as he put up an underwhelming 37 points in 72 games, was an occasional liability in the defensive zone, and somehow just couldn't lock into his spot as the quarterback on the top power play unit. Throw on a measly four points in two playoff rounds and you've got to wonder how much he'll expect next summer after his contract year. Overpaid and overplayed There are plenty of other favorites you could argue for in this article. Newly acquired Patrick Marleau will prove to be a boon in Toronto's salary when the time comes to sign the rookies, and there's almost no way he'll live up to that contract. Despite their numerous attempts at playing him in a Top 6 role, Tampa's Ryan Callahan just can't seem to live up to his contract or the “A” on his sweater. Then of course there's the ex-Toronto favorites to hate, Ottawa's Dion Phaneuf and Pittsburgh's Phil
It's hard to criticize the Flyers' system. Talented all-around centers? Check. Dynamic big defensemen? Check. Ridiculous goaltender depth? Check – Corey Pronman. ESPN.
According to a report, Tampa Bay Lighting is not willing to offer a contract offer to soon to be superstar free agent Steven Stamkos that is worth more than $8.5 million a season. Both sides have been trying to figure out a new deal for quite some time now; Stamkos is set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st.
I also think this user is right but it’s a little over the top. “Now that Connor McDavid, Jack Eichel and Noah Hanifan has been drafted into the league, people will begin shifting their focus more towards them. We aren't just talking about goals we are talking about shots, +/- avg., assists etc. For instance i am a carolina fan and everybody loves Justin Faulk some think he is one of the best in the league for D. However last night against the Red Wings he had a -3 +/- ratio, that leads me to believe that Hanifan who was drafted by the Canes is leading up to be a better player than Faulk. Hanifan who was +1 +/- ratio had an assist as the game progressed. Crosby who has been playing with many very good players in the NHL is still the best, his line is almost never scored on and they get more SOG (shots on goal) than all the other lines. Shots leads to dominating the game, dominating the games leads to smarter hockey and more enthusiastic players. Yes Crosby is the best in the game.” quotes a user from
Hockey, a sport who’s premier league is the NHL. The NHL, over time has had its fair share of players who dominated the game. Some of these players were just “too good”. Examples of this are Mario Lemieux, Gordie Howe, and the Great one, Wayne Gretzky. Today, there are a lot of great players in the league, sadly to go down in history in any sport you need to be at the top of your time. In current days we see plenty of good, young players, who really contribute to the league but some of the older players who have established their name to everyone are the only ones who have really put themselves in the history books. Today I’m writing this article to talk about two players, Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin. The two players are considered the
If I wear to describe John Tavares in one word it would be legend. John Tavares is a hockey player for the New York Islanders. He is 6,1 and 93 kg. He plays center ice and is currently captain. He was born in Mississauga, ON, CAN on September, 20, 1990. He was drafted first over all in 2009 in the NHL entry draft. In his junior years he play in the OHL for the Oshawa Generals but got traded to the London Knights in the 2009 season. In that 2009 season he finished with a career total of 215 goals breaking the OHL record by 2 goals. He was also the focus of a unsuccessful push to have the NHL draft rules changed to allow him to participate in the 2008 entry draft, as well as an attempt to allow him to play i the AHL. He excelled at lacrosse
Nikolay Kulemin got the message, even though he was spared the public wrath. He was much more active last night and dogged on the forecheck. Marek Zidlicky (23:45) and Steve Bernier (20:21 plus 9 hits) were also both very effective making their series debuts. With a combined 115 games of playoff experience between them, both should remain in the lineup as Jack Capuano continued to push mostly all the right buttons in this series.
Well in all truth, he has and hasn't. Both Taylor Hall and Tyler Seguin have had incredible careers thus far. Considering this, why is the "Taylor vs Tyler" argument still around? Truthfully, it's because we are hockey fans, it's what all of us do.
This generational hockey player only comes around every so often. Dangling goalies often into embarrassment while skating and shouting "showtime" after every major goal. Scoring in major moments vs Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and many more make people to believe he's the greatest American born player ever. He has gone through rough times leading people to turn on him but the fans in Chicago will always stand by him. As fans around the league root against him all he has to do is show off the three Stanley Cup rings. Pretty soon it'll be playoff time and showtime will be in title mode hoping to bring home a fourth Stanley Cup in eight seasons.
On-ice performance: achieved playoff contention every year since 2003; Ranked third of thirty teams in NHL
DiPietro was, at the time, the second goalie taken at number one. In college, DiPietro had a 2.45 goals-against average and a .913 save percentage. DiPietro early NHL career was rough, but by 2006, he had found his mojo and signed a large contract. However, he, like Oden, was riddled with multiple injuries and was not able to live up to his hype as the number one pick. His unsuccessful NHL career, he had a 2.87 goals-against average and a .907 save percentage. DiPietro was taken ahead many players who have had long and prosperous careers in the NHL like Dany Heatley, Marian Gaborik, seventh round pick, Henrik Lundqvist, and many
“Either the big heavyweight guys like Brian McGrattan, or the smaller agitators. I would hate to see the unintended side effects of where hockey would go without fighting, without that threat of retribution. It’s a fast, violent game where we’re wearing weapons on our feet and essentially carrying a club. So while a two- or five- minute penalty is a bad thing, it’s not going to knock somebody off their path of destruction as much as somebody grabbing them and punching them in the face.” Guys in the NHL are literally paid just to go out there and either try to get under the stars of the other teams skin or just to go fight one of the other players to get the team all hyped up. Not having those guys in the NHL will just be like watching the World Junior teams play against each other. Or it could turn out to be total mayhem because players know if they hit the super star of the team real hard they aren’t going to have to fight anyone, so the stars of each team will automatically be targeted.
Brock Nelson has no goals in 10 games, collecting only 4 assists in that span. Ryan Strome has 3-2-5 in the same 10-game span, but two goals and three points came in one game. In six of his past seven games, he is pointless. Anthony Beauvillier has been a breath of fresh air, working as hard as any forward, but has six goals in 47 games and at 19-years old, now enters unknown conditioning territory. The Islanders are 20th in the NHL in the faceoff circle, at 48.7%, and have allowed some bad goals, even lost a couple of games, recently as a result of not being able to win a big draw.
He shoots he scores! The history of hockey has changed over time. There are many good players that wouldn't be as good if these changes wouldn't have changed.
But then there is one player, who can do all. It´s Steve Yzerman, the best Canadian in the game!
Free agency has been a whiz of rumors and big moves. Cap stricken the penguins have not been able to spend like they have in previous summers but that certainly did not stop Jim Rutherford from making a splash this offseason pulling off one of the bigger trades in recent memory. Yes, Jim moved James Neal to the predators for Patric hornqvist and Nick Spaling and not saying anything bad about them but this is Phil Kessel. One of the top 5 scorers in the league and has not missed
