We are less than 90 days Away from hockey and that famous puck drop but what will we do to pass the time as we nervously await the chance at a season where at the end we get to raise the famous cup. Well for me free agency is a big part of how I pass the time so without a further to do here are my first impressions about free agency and why you should be excited for the home opener in the Consol Energy Center come October. Free agency has been a whiz of rumors and big moves. Cap stricken the penguins have not been able to spend like they have in previous summers but that certainly did not stop Jim Rutherford from making a splash this offseason pulling off one of the bigger trades in recent memory. Yes, Jim moved James Neal to the predators for Patric hornqvist and Nick Spaling and not saying anything bad about them but this is Phil Kessel. One of the top 5 scorers in the league and has not missed …show more content…
In return, Pittsburgh acquired TylerBiggs a big bodied winger prospect along with Phil Kessel along with D man Tim Erixon along with the draft pick we traded to the leafs for David Winnik last march. Along with this block buster deal Rutherford has been using whatever cap room we had left to flesh out the rest of this year’s roster. My favorite and most exciting piece to this year’s roster has to be Sergei Plotnikov a big bodied Russian winger who lit it up in the KHL. I love his eagerness and wanting to join the penguins as he paid 500,000 dollars to buy out his KHL contract to join us stateside. Him playing on a line with Geno like he did at the Olympics along with whatever winger they stick on the right side will be money all day long. Rutherford also did well with replenishing the stock pile of depth forwards and defenseman with cheap signings
In the book Double shift, Charlie, the captain of the rebels starts a new season with new players. However, these new players don’t have that good chemistry with the original players and the team becomes divided. I made the connection between the rebels, and the ottawa senators. In the NHL this season, Matt duchene of the colorado avalanche gets traded to the ottawa senators. Matt duchene, a superstar, has some trouble in ottawa, he is not scoring as much or pressuring like he used to with his former team.
In this week’s Prospect Faceoff, we take a look at Quebec Remparts goaltender Callum Booth, who has been the team’s saving grace during a rough stretch. He will be opposed by a former first-overall pick, Daniel Audette, who has a chip on his shoulder and something to prove. Also in this week’s edition, one underrated forward on North Dakota is garnering attention, as are a pair of draft-eligible skaters who are in weekend competition.

When the flyers hired General Manger Ron Hextall in the summer 2014. The Flyer philosophy changed the Flyers who were always known for making big trades and free agency splashes would now be carefully with money and horde prospects. Ron Hextall has been able to add seven of the flyers top 10 prospects in this three season as general Manger. Hextall has been able to stock pile both his defensive and goalies prospects. The Flyers know for having one of the best pools of defensive prospects groups in hockey.
The Sabres had retained the rights to Larsson by extending him a qualifying offer last month. The signing was announced Tuesday.
The 39-year-old defenseman is content with his role on the Flyers and would very much like to complete his fourth and final season with the club to the bitter end. Whether that's the playoffs or going home early. (Tim Panaccio CSNPhilly.com)
Quinn brought these guys in to be part of Detroit's 2016's roster but was quickly mistaken. He offered fairly high signing bonuses suffering a $250,000 cap releasing Ridley, and $200,000 for Schwartz. Despite these losses, Quinn didn't let his pride get in the way and cut them as soon as he felt it was necessary.
Save for a brief glimpse, the Islanders youngster has been a shell of himself during his second pro season. Already sent to Bridgeport after a couple of discussions during training camp, he has not responded to being called out by Capuano a couple of weeks prior to the end of the regular season.
Last season, on the other hand, was a disappointment as he put up an underwhelming 37 points in 72 games, was an occasional liability in the defensive zone, and somehow just couldn't lock into his spot as the quarterback on the top power play unit. Throw on a measly four points in two playoff rounds and you've got to wonder how much he'll expect next summer after his contract year.
If he 's traded, the new team would absorb the hit but it would revert back to the Devils after he retired. Teams could no longer get rid of a cap hit by burying a player in the minors as the New York Rangers did with Wade Redden. The following contracting rules are proposed: Two years for entry-level contracts, down from the current three years and down from the originally proposed five. Unrestricted free agency at 28 or eight years, up from 27 or seven years, and down from the proposed 10. Five-year cap on contract lengths. This is designed to address a league concern about players getting paid too much coming out of their entry-level deals. During a contract, the salary couldn 't vary by more than 5% in any year from the first-year number. This would eliminate the so-called diveback contract that pays a lot up front and lowers the cap hit with low salaries at the end. Salary arbitration would not be eliminated, as first proposed. A third-party arbitrator would be appointed if a player was unhappy with the current appeals result on a suspension. The players had been upset that there was no appeal process after Brendan Shanahan ruled and Bettman handled the appeal. The NHLPA is working on a counter-proposal and is expected to meet with the league on Thursday in Toronto.”
The Nashville Predators have been going through a seemingly endless process since entering the NHL in 1998. It did not take the Predators long to establish a successful and competitive nature among the franchise. Their first five seasons they struggled becoming a team and missed the playoffs, however, they have come together and made the playoffs every year since. The Predator’s on-ice performance was consistently among the top three teams in the league, but still faced many challenges.
Both teams have drafted and traded for All Star players, but the Capitals’ record of wasting that potential
The Panthers have stockpiled prospects and are starting to reap the rewards of their patience, and the 2015 NHL Entry Draft was a critical time as the team played host for the event. Tallon has
The ‘addition by getting healthy’ thinking is simply not good enough at this point, and may not be enough to get the Islanders over the hump and into the 2017 playoffs. Travis Hamonic was struggling mightily before, how about after 20+ games off? Shane Prince is a nice depth player but nothing other teams are going to fear. Cal
