Heros are fearless individuals who not only have stamina, but also thrive in adversity. In Sherman Alexie’s The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, Alexie underscores how an Indigenous teen named Arnold ‘Junior’ Spirit undergoes various social and mental challenges as he struggles to fit into his community and new school. Through Junior’s courage, he is willing to make unusual choices that seem to have negative outcomes. Junior can also recover from conflicts quickly and is able to become stronger because he is resilient. In addition to resilience, Junior is he is motivated. Usually, when people think of the word ‘hero’, their mind conjures up several images of Superman, Batman, or Spiderman. Most people think of a hero as a steroid-riddled man in a tight suit and a cape, capable of flying, shooting lasers out of their eyes, or using some other kind of superhuman abilities. But a hero in a classic story is a completely different kind of archetype. Archetypal heroes are far from perfect – receiving supernatural help and making fatal flaws. A hero also embarks on an epic journey in which they face many issues, and are often honored after their death.
Heros… We hear on the news all the time that, this person is a hero for doing xyz, or this person is a hero of doing a different xyz; Well one author decided to write about a hero, a made up hero. This hero isn’t superman, or batman, nor does this hear even have a hero sounding name, to some people they can’t imagine this person ever being a hero because they don’t know him. This hero is Papa from the novel The Road by Cormac McCarthy.
“I wish I could be a hero!” Many adults in today’s society hear small children wishing they could become heroes. Children wish to be more like heroes for the reason that heroes are the type of people who risk their lives to help others. Throughout history, children have had a positive connotation with the word “hero.” The heroes many small children talk about are the fictional ones who protect cities from villains: Superman, Batman, Spiderman, and others. However, these are not the only types of heroes in today’s world. Firefighters and policemen are also considered heroes because they save the lives of those in danger. Many adults consider their inspirations to be heroes, such as Mahatma Gandhi, Martin
The Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) was created to protect Native artifacts and give proper recognition and ownership to the native tribe or direct descendants of which it is rightfully affiliated with. Cultural items include sacred objects, inherited objects, funerary objects, and human remains. NAGPRA is a federal law passed in 1990 that is used by federal agencies and all museums but is applied to anyone who discovers the listed above artifacts. This Act includes provisions for unclaimed and culturally unidentifiable items on Federal and tribal lands. There are penalties for those who do not comply or who partake in illegal trafficking. NAGPRA authorizes Federal grants to tribes, organizations, and museums to help with the documentation and repatriation of items. There is a Review Committee to monitor the process and facilitate the resolutions for disputes.
Second thing is bravery to make a hero. To rush into a burning building like Johnny did doesn’t happen, it takes bravery to do it. Johnny was a kid who had gotten jumped by Socs and was really scared. Although he went into a burning building because it was the right thing to do. That is what really makes a true hero.
A hero's place in society has remained relatively consistent since the very beginning of time. Throughout the years, people have seen many different versions of larger-than-life heroes, who have completed seemingly impossible tasks and persevered through immense adversity. The common denominator between all of these heroes has always been that each and every one of these beings has put his/her own life in danger and fought great battles in the pursuit of a better life for mankind as a whole.
Heroes are a big part of our society, as it comes to no surprise people have heroes who are normally older than themselves moreover at a higher maturity level than the person, however, in this case, it is exactly opposite. Austin Tyler Causby’s hero’s though not a typical hero would most definitely made a hefty contribution to his life. In the year 2009 Austin received news from his mother, consequently he was devastated, his mother was pregnant. This made Austin’s world collapse on him, he was an only child for almost ten years and now there was going to be another one around to take his place. Once little Payton Bradley was born Austin became increasingly upset with the attention being taken off of him. He became so jealous that at one point he tried to sit on him to
That seven-year-old boy made me feel disgusted with myself. I remembered being in my room both crying and questioning why God didn’t trade my life for his; why was I worth living at the expense of his? I found myself in the predicament of wondering how can a child illuminate with such rejoice while still suffering from a dreadful disease. I compared his outlook to the world with mines and automatically, was embarrassed. On Monday, December 1, 2014, at 7:05 PM, I made a promise. I told Max Winster that I will dedicate my existence to helping children, like himself, fight against this horrific and indiscriminate disease. Till this day, I have kept our promise, unfortunately, Max didn't live to see the results. My most rewarding experience is my service at Fight for the Future organization. Being the founder and president, I’ve had the opportunity of fundraising for kids who have cancer at St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. In fact, this past year, we organized a Relay for Westhill and a Cartoon Festival. During this festival, I dressed up as several Disney’s characters—from Snow White to Cinderella—to the point, that we collected $150 from the spectators that were watching
