Rhetorical Analysis Paper
I listened to an older recording of a radio airing show. Rebecca, the host of the radio broadcasting show, arranged for Dr. Stephen Covey to share his theories and philosophies on a subject valued to him and many others. He communicated on the topic of having a family mission statement. He has published several books that also encourage the equivalent manner and viewpoint as his broadcast, one specifically is the book, Seven Habits of Highly Effective Families. Dr. Covey offers advice for helping to become better parents and raise more loving and closer families. He aims to convince his listeners that effective families need a family mission statement. He suggests how a family mission statement leads families to not

Covey commences his message with his own individual, respective opinion that a family mission statement is an endeavor to convey to a clear level as to what an exclusive family’s values and goals are so that they can all be on the same page. The purpose of him being the feature spokesman on the radio show was to encourage the listeners to create a family mission statement. He emphasized reasons why a family needs a mission statement. For example, family mission statements helps families create harmony and move from success to significance.
Dr. Convey affirmed the purpose of a family mission statement is “to create a nurturing place of faith, order, truth, love, happiness and relaxation and to offer an opportunity for every person to become independent and effectively interdependent to serve worthy purposes in society through understanding and living the gospel of Jesus Christ.” He named four things a family mission statement should include: 1. Characteristics of the home, 2. Effect upon people to become independent and effectively interdependent, 3. Effort to family to be of significance, and 4. Source of the

Covey advocated for people to “adapt to the reality of their situation” and he connected this with his family’s devotion time. During devotion they read their scriptures and discuss it. Dr. Covey parroted, “Make sure at least eighty percent of your communications are uplifting, affirming, and believing in them.” He finished by recapping that only twenty percent needs to involve evaluation, correction, and discipline. He supported this idea by encouraging discipline be represented of discipleship and a disciple’s life and not punishment. The time spot opened for callers allow real people to converse with Dr. Covey about real life situations everyone could relate
that families can be encouraged to spend more time together and place family values first.
A passage can be found at the beginning, middle, and end of The Help by Kathryn Stockett that shows great examples of tone, diction, and syntax. “Miss Skeeter look real confused. ‘The home… the what?’ ‘A Bill that requires every white home to have a separate bathroom for the colored help… Miss Skeeter, she frowning at Miss Hilly. She set her cards down face up and say real matter-of-fact, ‘Maybe we ought to just build you a bathroom outside, Hilly” (9). This early in the book, we have learned what Stockett’s opinion is based her tone, as well as how she presents Hilly and Skeeter. Hilly is first described through Aibileen, who doesn’t care for Miss Hilly at all because of the way she treats the help. We have already learned that Hilly is incredibly racist and self-entitled. Everyone has a Hilly of some
I can tell you what to analyze the purpose of the first paragraph as it relates to the rest of the passage. The spooky creatures come from the cracks under the ocean. It is really dangerous. If you are a scientists then I get it. In the text it stated that, “ What scientists have learned is that there are large cracks, or vents on the ocean floor away from the sunlight.” I know this because scientists are smart and they know everything. We all can learn about new things in the world.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is a government website that provides information about various diseases, disabilities, disorders, etc.. The CDC provides multiple webpages about Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) that list and provide information about causes, treatments, variations, and signs/symptoms of the disorder. On their informative pages, they use rhetorical devices to better portray their message. The CDC effectively uses the three rhetorical devices, pathos, ethos, and logos, to reach their goal of informing their target audience and providing a clear perspective on Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder.
Greetings and thanks for the post! Greetings and thank you for the post! I admire your quotations and the way you correlated the methods and practices that were demontrated in the Old Testament vice the new. Your example in paragraph 5 was spot on with regards to numerous examples of women in positions of leadership such as Phoebe the deacon/minister, Pricilla and Aquila, coworkers with Paul, and perhaps Junia as an apostle” I support women and thier dedicated service to the ministry. As Christians , we are all called to serve the Almighty God.
Rhetorical Analysis is the careful examination of texts, videos, and images to understand how they function in conveying their message. The definition of rhetorical analysis will help me better understand what I should be looking for when I receive a text, as rhetorical analysis is different than literary analysis. Therefore, the devices for each are also different (Lunsford et al. 88).
In South Central, Los Angeles, there is a food epidemic taking place among the population. For miles and miles, the only easily attainable food source is fast food; causing the overconsumption of un-nutritious, greasy, and fattening food. This is the problem brought to the public’s attention by speaker Ron Finley in his Ted Talks speech, “A Guerilla Gardener in South Central L.A.” Finley explains how everywhere he looks in his native South Central, all he sees are fast food chains and Dialysis clinics opened due to the lack of nutritious food. Finley views the lack of a healthy food source as a serious problem, and brings up
Communicational patterns are strong within the family communicating, interacting, and listening to each other. Mom and Dad have open communication between them and with the children. No dysfunctional communication observed. The decision-making process is between Mom and Dad. The role structure is as equal as can be; Mom works full time and has two part time jobs because Dad is unemployed so Dad has a larger care-giving role. Family values are based upon strong Christian faith. Family attends church every week and children are enrolled in private religious school. Prayer is said before each meal and at bedtime. The family shares a strong religious core with tradition, values, and beliefs.
Quote 1: “On a global basis, the question has to be “do assessments disadvantage students from racially and ethnically diverse backgrounds?”
Writers and speakers appeal to logos for logic and reason. Logos is very rational with a clear, main idea
Strength does not lie in numbers, but rather in accumulated experiences. Some people choose to live in such a way that every fathomable opportunity is seized, while others bow down to grief and avoid the gift of pleasure out of pure fear. In Sara Teasdale’s poem “Lessons”, she lyrically explores the idea that individuals have a great bounty of life experiences to enjoy. Life is too short and this earth is too plentiful to not take advantage of every unusual and thrilling opportunity, including understanding and facing our rawest emotions. Through diction and personification, Teasdale iterates that opposed to shrinking away from moments in time that may make us uncomfortable, individuals should embrace what they feel and what beauty this earth
An analysis happens when you evaluate something and then break it down and interpret it for your audience. When you analyze something, you are observing it and then deciding “this thing means this”. Many things can affect someone’s analysis, such as stereotypes, culture, and past experience. We often analyze things in our day to day life without even realizing.
‘The family performs important tasks that contribute to society’s basic needs and helps perpetuate social order.’ (Anthony Giddens 2006 - Page 238) Functionalists believe a family’s paramount purpose is to raise and support their children within society.
