March 4, 1801, Thomas Jefferson was sworn in as the third president of the United States. It was the first peaceful hand off of power between two parties. Newly elected President Jefferson calls it “the Revolution of 1800”. In “the Revolution of 1800”, Thomas Jefferson and his running mate, Aaron Burr beat out the Federalist party, John Adams and Charles C. Pinckney in a complete knock out. Getting 73 votes each, Jefferson and Burr, beating John Adams, with 65, and Pinckney, with 64. For the first time there was a tie, and it went to the House of Representatives.
