This year’s election has reached new extremes that were never predicted to come about. We have two candidates that are both unfit to run America based on past occurrences and current ordeals. Along with this, there is bound to be arising conflict, yet who knew it would become as horrible as it is? The conservative editorial board of The Republic has not endorsed a democratic candidate in one hundred and twenty five years. However, between Clinton and Trump, they felt Clinton, the democrat, was the better choice in this upcoming presidential election. Putting aside my views between the two options, I respect their ability to stick up for who they put their vote behind. While I can do that,
In November, American voters will be between a rock and a hard place, or you may say between the devil and the deep blue sea, when they come to elect the 44th president. After the worst president in all of American history, the best choice Americans will have for president is either a 72-year-old authoritarian maverick or a black man whose middle name is Hussein. What’s wrong with America? This is the greatest nation in the world, and it became so because of its dedicated founding fathers and its distinguished popular presidents.
She tells a story of Roger Griswold, a federalist “attacking” Mathew Lyon, a Vermont representative with a “cane”. Page paints a picture of the Democratic-Republican never-ending battle of “chamber fire pit” and “fire tongs” as threatening objects and violence used amongst the opposing political party. Her vivid illustrations through charged and detailed diction creates a violent image. This creates a more in depth understanding of the issue. Page’s strong examples of of imagery conveys the audience of the abuse and destruction that is causing our country to become more and more divided. The contrasting opinions between one another should have nothing to do with the separation of our country. The public is “reflected in everything” from whom “they marry to where they get their news.” In reality we “spend time around those who think differently than we do”, however we seem to shun anyone who may think differently than ourselves. More than half of Republicans are reported to watch “Fox News at least a few times a week” while “Democrats are watching MSNBC [...].” Page uses these examples to show the audience that American citizens watch and pour their time into the things they agree with. This affects the audience by showing they have the tendency to gravitate towards things they agree with and not look at the
Political dysfunction is no surprise to the American Populace; in fact, today it’s almost expected. As we see with the fairly recent presidential elections between Republican Nominee [now president] Donald Trump and Democratic Nominee and Senator Hilary Clinton, our current political system is amuck. It is asinine, it’s crazy, it is viscous, and above all else, it is in shambles. This paves the way for the million-dollar question we are all left racking our brains to answer – what happened to us? This question, along with the answers to such is examined by author Mike Lofgren in his book The Party is Over, and is the topic of this essay paper. More specifically, today I would like to dive a bit deeper and explore the answer to a question a
When George Washington was elected President in 1789 by members of the fledgling United States of America, he was setting into motion a tradition that has stood the test of over 225 years - the presidential election. Even as the United States has seen dozens of wars, made hundreds of scientific advances, and selected thousands of politicians to seats everywhere from small town councils to Congress, the principles of the election have remained the same; the people band together to determine who will best protect their interests at home and assure that the US will always remain on top in foreign policy. Oftentimes, this is found to be a difficult decision, as public opinion is constantly wavering. One sees this in action particularly during the 1992 election - a battle of wills between Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush, and Ross Perot; complete with lead changes, major vote swings, and Perot’s unprecedented initial success - ultimately a false alarm to the bipartisan establishment.
Political races is on the rise the rise of donald thump it has caused bad to happen to people and to see people like you have never seen them before their are two parties there were two people that did not get along it was bad because it did not stop because it did not stop it formed the two political parties we have today the republicans and the democrats and in the past they were the federalists and the anti federalists two parties but different ways of thanking.
Amidst the past eight years of lackluster economic advancement, America’s prowess and respect declining worldwide, increasing government involvement in daily lives, and a President seemingly unwilling to take a solid stance on a the global threat of terrorism, the transfer of power between political parties in the White House is not so stunning. Due to the two-party system, this is not an unprecedented phenomenon. The American people are constantly seeking a political party to garner their attention and adapt to changing times, opinions, demographics, and attitudes (Cohen) and this results in the alternation of power between the two key political parties.
Racism is one of the biggest problems today. As we look back, a considerable measure of our history is based on racial discrimination, hatred, and African Americans being treated as slaves. The Shadow of Hate revolves around a history of intolerance in America, and how the origins of race affected American people. The Shadow of Hate was an eye opener as it shows how the native Americans, Japanese Americans, African Americans, Jews, and Hispanics were treated back in the days. In this paper, I am going to summarize the documentary and compose my perspectives on what I think about it.
On November 8, 2016 the US election took place. The two front runners, the Democratic nominee Hilary Clinton and the Republican nominee, Donald Trump went neck to neck in the presidential race. On this frightening night, millions of people watched America’s worst nightmare unfold right in front of their own eyes. Donald J. Trump the islamophobic, xenophobic, misogynistic, homophobic, sexist, racist bigot defeated Hilary Clinton and became the 45th President of the United States of America. Donald Trump shouldn’t have even been nominated to run for president.
For many Americans today, a feeling of dismay and despair is present whenever a conservation turns towards the political races happening this year. To the average American, this election has become a mockery of the electoral system. Philosophy is being replaced with stupidity and knee-jerk reactions, and it seems as though the political parties’ cater to the lowest denomination of intelligence. When one hears Democrats versus Republicans, demagoguery and division are usually among the first things that come to mind. This Center for Constructive Alternatives series explained the history behind the two parties, how situations like today came into fruition, and clearly alluded to an idea that the parties of old are crumbling.

“One may be making a virtuous decision when choosing the lesser of two evils, but one will still find himself stuck with an evil choice.” Many Americans today find themselves in this predicament when concerning the two possible choices for President of the United States. On one hand you have Hillary Clinton who the Federal Bureau of Investigations labeled “careless” and “grossly negligent” in the handling of America's top secret information. To the contrary you have Donald Trump who has said “he would like to ban all muslims”. Both of these examples merely scratch the surface on the quality of these two candidates. Correspondingly many Americans agree that neither Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton are fit to be President of the United States.
America is the leading power in the world. Although to other countries we may seem like a well bonded country, we are divided. Democrats and Republicans in the past have never been this angry at each other in a long time. The last time our nation has been this divided was during the Civil War and events that partook after. Statistics in this past election show that 54% of Republicans our in disapproval of Democrats. While Democrats show a 55% disapproval toward Republicans (Election News). This divide started in 2008 when John McCain elected Sarah Palin to be his Vice President in the election vs. at the time Senator Barack Obama. After Obama was elected President, the Alt-Right and Conservatives were afraid that they would not have another Republican in office again. Back when Eisenhower was elected, Democrats and Republicans showed a 60% approval rating of him when elected into office (Thinker,America). From Lincoln to Trump on the other hand, Democrats nowadays are not happy with the New Republican Party. Then in 2015 Donald Trump announced his candidacy for president. He than attracted the Alt-Right with his talks and inciting fear into Americans. Nowadays America is divided and
The 2016 presidential race has become a bloody fight with the Donald being crowned king of the Republicans will the civil war of the left continuous to see who will be crowned king. We have the establishment of both parties being challenged by outsiders, and we also have the rise of blue collar voter turnout in the primaries. This election has turned the country against each other it is biting and gnawing at the seams of our political system. As the race to the White House gets further and further along, more and more people rattle their swords at others who don’t have the same beliefs as they do. Just think, this is only the beginning. We still have the Democrats trying to figure out who will be their
Unless you have been living under a rock for the past two years, the United States of America has an election coming up on the eighth of November. This campaign has gotten ugly. There has been fighting, rioting, accusations of improper conduct, and a whole heap of other things between the two political parties. Some people would argue that our country is divided more now than ever in history. On the Democratic side, you have Senator Hillary Clinton. She has the motivation of becoming America’s first female president. Over on the Republican side, you have Donald Trump, a billionaire, real-estate mogul, businessman. These two candidates have two very different backgrounds. Hillary Clinton has been in the political arena since 1976. She was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2001 and was appointed as the U.S. Secretary of State in 2009. Donald Trump, on the other hand, has never held any kind of political office. He got into real-estate in 1971 and has since then made the Trump name synonymous with real-estate development. With their backgrounds being as different as they are, their personalities are just as different.
One may be making a virtuous decision when choosing the lesser of two evils, but one will still find himself stuck with an evil choice. Many Americans today find themselves in this predicament when considering the only two real possible choices for President of the United States. On one hand, voters have former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who the Federal Bureau of Investigations labeled “careless” and “grossly negligent” in the handling of America 's top secret information. On the other hand, voters have Donald Trump, who persistently attacked a Gold Star Family. It is easy to see how the Pew Research Center has reported that there is widespread skepticism among registered voters concerning the presidential race. The poll reported that a higher percentage of voters thought that both candidates would make “terrible presidents” rather than merely “average presidents’”(Pew Poll, August 2016). Americans are very unhappy with their two choices for President of the United States. The three main reasons behind this dissatisfaction are increasing negative partisanship, media 's constant push of a narrative to appeal to their base, and the overall qualities of the candidates themselves.
