One of the important topics in school, Social Studies, is talked about not being taught anymore. Social Studies should be taught to inform our children about our history. Social Studies teaches about our past and who we are. For example, In the book The Giver, Jonas doesn't know about his past he just thinks that the only time that exists is now. If Social Studies isn't educated to kids they will be like Jonas, but if they are educated about our History they will know about their ancestors and how the world came to be.
in the book the giver the author Lois lowry tells about a dystopian society and about a boy named jonas and his friends fiona and asher. in a dystopian society you can't do what you want and there are very many rules you have to follow. jonas lives with his MOMMY, DADDY, and his sister. even though that's not jonas's real family it's the family he was chosen to go live with.
The themes of suffering and death, outline the author and director’s sociological perspective on manipulation and are developed through the techniques of juxtaposition, symbols, camera angles and sound effects. Lowry uses juxtaposition when associating a cruel act with a normalised blameless deed as Jonas is granted the opportunity to witness the “release” of a child. “…the new child, no longer crying, moved his arms and legs in a jerking motion. Then he went limp. His head fell to the side, his eyes half-open. Then he was still” (Chapter 19). Lowry uses subtle yet effective language to describe the death of the child; however, the incorporation of laughter and happiness expressed through Jonas’ father contrasts with the reality of the
In The Giver by Lois Lowry, Jonas’s community is oblivious to lf their world is a Dystopia or a Utopia. The community is a Dystopia. According to the passage “Utopias and Dystopias”,a Dystopia is a Utopia which things have gone wrong. An Utopian society is a place we can only dream about. Jonas community is no dream they are completely controlled. Jonas society is ruled by the Chief Elder. The Giver describes three different ideals including lack of knowledge, sameness, and complete control.
“You’re not the same individual you were a year ago, a month ago, a week ago. You’re always growing experiences so don’t stop. That’s life” (Jorge Infante).
Could our society be any similar or different to “The Giver”? In modern day society the millennials have pushed and worked for change, while the society in “The Giver” is based around the idea of sameness. The dystopian society can be compared and contrasted to our modern day society in many ways. According to the article ‘What Millennials Want From Work and Life”, “ Millennials are pushing for change in the world”.
Leydi Valdes 5/6 Embedded Assessment 2.1 Our modern day society is far from a perfect society. However Jonas’ society has various rules. That makes it much more dangerous than a modern day society. Modern day society and the society in The Giver have many differences including precision of language, can’t pick job or spouse, and books were not available.

all remedy. Since soma has no side effects, it can be a threat to society
Father, You are powerful. You are greater than the universe in which I am so small, because You created both it and me. With this power you can do whatever You please. You set up nations and kingdoms, and take them down at Your will. You have the power over even life and death, for You have set the bounds of my days. Alongside Your omnipotence, You are also the definition of good. Everything You do is holy, righteous, perfect, and good, even when we cannot see how it could be. You are completely trustworthy and worthy of all my praise and devotion.
Life would change drastically if we didn’t have books. In The Giver, Jonas has only seen three books. He has never seen another book in his life until he walks into the Receiver's room. It got me thinking. If there were no books in our world, I would be distraught. I would miss all books, but there are three books that I would miss dearly.
Every move was being watched, including his partner's action at the firing end. No firing was heard from the store, so that was good. Once the stream of dead was reduced to stragglers, the weapon fired then ratcheted to the left. A line of the dead dropped to the pavement , the black mist floating in the air. The observers were all grins, as the operation repeated several times. The convict's positions were taken over by others. The jobs weren't difficult once they were shown what to do.
Marcus Garvey once expressed, “A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots.” The novel The Giver, by Lois Lowry, is about a boy, Jonas, who is given knowledge that has the power to change his beliefs and opinions about his society. Jonas is trusted with the information of those from generations before him, and cannot speak of his training to anyone besides the Giver himself. Knowledge is the power to know something and have the power to hold on to the information forever.
1. As you can see, the book and the movie are similar in a way but very different. Asher’s character is very different by strictness to carefree . In the book it states that Asher has a carefree personality than in the movie. In the book Jonas is concerned for Asher’s assignment, because “he makes a game out of everything”. Also in the bookit says that “Asher ran through the standard apology phrase rapidly”. So we all know that in the book Asher was very lazy, carefree and trouble. He didn’t care what he did. Although in the movie when Jonas was showing Fiona an example of sledding, by sledding on a lunch tray, Asher hesitated. Jonas asked “Why are you chicken” and Asher said “no” and ran away. Looks like he was scared of breaking the rules. His personality affects the conflict of him ditching his best friend, and makes sure he doesn’t get out of the community boundary. He was helping the chief elder defeat Jonas.
In this essay I am going to discuss confidentiality. The common law of confidentiality says that people have a right to expect that information given to a healthcare professional is only used for the reason it was given but also that it will not be disclosed without permission (The nursing times, no date). The important concept is of trust, without which no relationship can develop or be sustained between a patient and a nursing practitioner.
uise knew by the new name on the call box that someone had moved in. She’d seen lights and movement in the apartment, which was across the courtyard from her and Martin, for the past few days. The new name confirmed it. Someone had finally bought the place. The name had been typed on a small piece of green paper and taped to the call box beside the apartment’s number. Louise had once known a man with the name Jahani. Arman had been a doctoral student in French the year she started at Stockholm University. He’d taught the conversation tutorial she took fall term. She looked at the green paper again. All that was so long ago. He was the second man she’d slept with. Martin still didn’t know about it. She checked her watch. She was on her way out
